Pretty much everything about the fall of Constantinople in 1453, and especially this scene, which is described in the history book “Ghost Empire”:
>At sunset, as the shadows lengthened across the city, people came out of their homes spontaneously, and converged on the Hagia Sophia for vespers. The church, darkened for nearly five months, was again ablaze with golden light. Old hatreds were put aside as Orthodox and Catholic bishops sang liturgy together. Constantine arrived late for the service, entering the narthex through the Imperial Gate. Trembling with emotion, he took the holy sacrament, fell to his knees and begged God for forgiveness for his sins. The emperor then drew himself up, bowed respectfully to everyone present, and strode out of the church. As he departed, a terrible cry of anguish went up from the congregation.

This occurred on the very night before the city fell.

Well, compared to other Polish geopolitical decisions, it wasn't as bad. They just became a satellite state of Russia for another Half a century, whereas the Reich was aiming to eliminate it entirely and repopulate it with the Germs.

Don't forget what has lead up to it. Typical Polish foreign policy autism: as they more or less single-handedly destroyed any chances of an early anti-German coalition.

>Government disagrees
>Tell you to disarm before moving
>Don't want to but do anyway
>Except one fucking dickhead decides to start shooting and then everyone else joins in
>Go back to your ancestral fortress
>Asshole tribe member called "Hooker Jim" decides to go and shoot some whites for literally no fucking reason
>Now you're fucked
>Dig in in your natural fortress and hold off the US army as best you can
>peace talks get proposed
>The tribe decides to listen to this Hooker Jim asshole and the majority decide to shoot the peace commission
>You don't want to do it, but that's what the tribe voted for
>War keeps on going now
>This Hooker Jim piece of shit who started the fucking thing goes over and plea bargains by telling the US army where to find you
>Get fucking hanged for a war you didn't want to fight, started by a guy who got amnesty

>implying getting exiled to canada isnt the best thing anyone in eastern europe could have hoped for

hey, at least Poles who got to the west had a chance for future there
>be Pole back in occupied homeland
>go underground to fight occupant
>risk your and your family's life hiding Jewish civilians
>risk getting caught in partisan activity and getting executed/sent to death camp
>risk getting arrested in random street roundup, or killed in village pacification
>risk getting sent to camp for teaching Polish
>If you live in Warsaw, witness whole city get annihilated in an uprising
>But, hey, here come Soviet liberators
>Be viewed as threat by communist authorities for your loyalty to pre-war goverment
>get executed by communists, or sent to gulag
>have memory about you buried by communists
>70 years later
>Izaak Shekelbaum writes how all Polish partisans were nazi thugs

One of such people, Pilecki, probably belongs to the most JUSTed people in ww2

>th.. the soviets will cross the Vistula...
>any day now!

No empire ever got a better send off.

As a turk i give the respect to the last push they gave against us in a totally hopeless situation.

BTW, do someone has the story about the last fight of Constantine with the ottoman soldiers and that he was betrayed after that? Or something like that.. It was a good pasta.

I always feel so bad for Constantine. Maybe it's biased, but he seems like a good man who'd been put in an irreparable situation.

>least Poles who got to the west had a chance for future there
Brits literally deported polish soldiers to soviet lands under pretense of them threatening the economy and they did that right after claiming polish bank deposits in uk

Such is the fate of schismatics.

>>hated by wehraboos for declaring war
90% of Wehraboos don't even know Chamberlain was still PM when the war started
