Probably my favourite castle for that reason. If I had the money I would buy it and convert it to a house, somewhere to grow old and watch the world burn.

I don't know, my country was founded after castles had ceased to serve any genuine military or political purpose.
Shame though, I've always wanted to see a proper castle.

Fair enough. It is a bit of a trek. 5hrs by car and 3hrs by train from London. But I love how pretty it is. Only downside is the Cathedral has some sort of condom on it nowadays

I love the cathedral as well. the matriculation ceremony was awesome in there. Id climb up to the top of the tower but apparently if you do before you graduate you will fail your course lmao. It is super nice walking past all these buildings every morning

Generally housing in England is expensive. Cottages, though it really depends on the cottage itself, are usually above average price.
Wales has a lot cheaper house prices though.
Your typical US McMansion house would cost millions in England though.

Is it cold in durham right now?
Also, what course?

I guess so, moved there young so never had any problems. Helped speaking the language too.
Nice that people have grown up there, remember we used to throw snowballs at tourists and shit.

A quick search on Rightmove led me to one in Wales that isn't extortionate, but not grandiose either.
onthemarket.com/details/4533010/
The best places are in the Cotswolds. Now they are extortionate.
Unfortunately England is one of the worst Western countries to be in if you aren't at least middle class.

Nvm, not Rightmove, but you get the point.

Why are house prices so high?
Was it the 08 recession?

Not much left of the Bulgarian castles after the Treaty of Berlin (1878). Which stated that all fortresses on the territory of Bulgaria should be demolished. Even so there are more than 3700 documented castle sites in the country. Some make for cosy ruins.

Because we need to build more million pound condos in London!

Grew up in Wales. Four castles in various states or repair within a 20 mile radius of me. Pretty lucky desu. Shame there's no work locally though.

There were several castles like that, but they were post-medieval country palaces (sometimes within a military fortress).

You want to be part of a community, a place where you belong, somewhere where everyone knows your name, says good morning and look out for eachother.

Well, Russia did not have castles: just the city walls, which is what you posted. With the exceptions of the monasteries for obvious reasons.

There were some like that, but overtime the nobles simply lived within cities.

its kind of like a castle. just with missiles instead of knights.
