Convincing someone to lift

My boyfriend is 122 lbs at 5'9. How should I go about encouraging him to go to the gym?

He does a lot of outdoor sports like biking, and does pleb workouts like pushups and pullups, and eats well, and I love him regardless, but 120 is too low of a weight.

upon me telling him he should eat more or get a cheap gym membership he responds with "what's the point" and "muscles mean i have to eat more to maintain them and that's money" and "if i build muscle my arms are going to be heavier." help anons

Former biker here. Biking is more fun when you’re thin. Going up hills sucks when you’re big. Get him to switch to downhill mountain biking where weight doesn’t matter so much.

30 lbs will get in the way of being a roadie or cross country mountain biker. Especially if any of it goes into his upper body.

One way to get him to switch to downhill is to tell him you want to do it and see if he can coach you.

Dump him. If he doesn't want to, you're just going to piss him off nagging. It won't make him lift. Being dumped is a great motivator. That might make him lift, it might not. Nagging won't help shit.

You can't. People who like endurance sports will never be convinced to gain weight by someone else, they value their performance in their sport too much. Dump him for a huge guy, he'll start lifting then, most likely, if he ever cared about you.

Bring up the subject of workin out and fitness and shit. Then at some point mention that lifting is tons of fun for you. Tell him you want him to try something new with you cuz its fun. If he complains about the expense and "pointless muscles", tell him having fun with you isnt pointless. If he refuses, say "Oh dont be a baby, cmon, you might just like it" and drag him to a gym as a guest.
