I'm fairly new to lifting, so my mind muscle connections are trash to begin with but I have a very significant barrel chest that I feel is impeding on some movement. Does anyone else have a barrel chest and struggled to begin with? I find back exercises like lat pulldowns extremely difficult to get any contraction, etc. It's like my arms have less space to move
Barrel chest problems
no, you're overthinking it
Pretty sure I habe this. Congenital heart
defects too... Probably related.
Feels good to be a big guy and look way more jacked than the next faggot.
I for sure have a barrel chest and was even told that by my parents when I was like 12 years old. I don't, however, think it effected my lifting at all
>I'm fairly new to lifting, so my mind muscle connections are trash to begin with
Stop there. Keep lifting. Enjoy your super easy bench rom
Most new lifters don't know how to engage their lats properly. That fact that you are talking about "arms" when talking about lats leads me to think you probably have established that connection. You're overthinking it.
everyone has trouble with lat pulldown when starting out. try t bar rows, it was the easiest exercise for me to really feel my lats working.
also, on lat pulldown down sit completely upright and just pull down, retract your shoulder blade and lean back a bit, and pull like that
Is leaning backwards while doing them a no-no?
i feel like i get more out of it when i do so.
You're meant to lean back very slightly and push your chest out.
OP, do you have rib flare?
You dont have a barrel chest you just simply dont have any muscle there
>Feels good to be a big guy and look way more jacked than the next faggot.
desu barrel chested guys do look way more wide/jack. which is a good thing if you're into that look.
100% have barrel chest
if I'm relaxed with bad posture yes. If I'm actively engaging serratus it's not as significant but if I'm in position for say bench with chest up etc then its very obvious barrel chest. My dad has it too, he used to be a very strong gymnast and he has perfect posture and a very solid muscular base with the exact same rib structure as I do.
What's more interesting is that we both have large lung capacities, or at least that is what our doctor has told us. Wonder if it's connected in the same way that emphysema causes barrel chest
lats are easy compared to chest, i'm still trying to get good activation after 3 fucking months
Become the bloatlord
At least you don’t have pectus. Barrel chest looks completely fine compared to pectus
>tfw look like the guy on the left
"""normal""" chest was a mistake...
Breh, just stfu and enjoy sick bench gains. I got the barrel chest and my bench is stronk, nothing else is lagging either.
I think I might have barrel chest too
Can't find much about it online, does it have negative effects on anything? Lifting especially
Fuck I meant dont* sit completely vertical
Yes you’re meant to lean back a bit and point your chest up
Try compressing the bar together at the top of presses, as if you’re trying to close a telescope
I don't know what a telescope looks like
bump
Can guys with barrel chests post their pics in this thread? I'm curious to know how exactly that looks, thank you
