Soy

Hey Veeky Forums does soy really cause hormone problems in men? I'm thinking of going on a diet that involves soy protein. I keep hearing things about soy causing man boobs and shit but at the same time clinical evidence says no.

What do

It has plant estrogen in it, a fuckton of it, and your body can't tell the difference. It has no history of being eaten outside the past 100 years. The Chinese thought it was poison, the Japanese only ate it after fermenting it. It was originally grown to make wallboard with, but then someone had the idea of marketing as a 'superfood'.

Ask yourself, if this food is SO GOOD why does nobody eat it except poor people are stupid fucking hipsters? Yes, it gives you man boobs. Eat beans or something if you need cheap protein.

These are the studies I have come across on this subject that are of the highest quality:

>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19524224:

"MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S):
Fifteen placebo-controlled treatment groups with baseline and ending measures were analyzed. In addition, 32 reports involving 36 treatment groups were assessed in simpler models to ascertain the results.
RESULT(S):
No significant effects of soy protein or isoflavone intake on T, SHBG, free T, or FAI were detected regardless of statistical model.
CONCLUSION(S):
The results of this meta-analysis suggest that neither soy foods nor isoflavone supplements alter measures of bioavailable T concentrations in men."

>cebp.aacrjournals.org/content/10/3/179:

"There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of changes in serum estrone concentrations, which tended to decrease in the soy-supplemented group and increase in the control group over time. None of the other hormones measured (estradiol, total and free-testosterone, or sex hormone-binding globulin) showed any statistical difference between the two groups in terms of patterns of change."

CONT.

>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11352776:

"Healthy volunteers took a supplement containing 40 mg of isoflavones daily for 2 months and donated blood and semen samples monthly for 2 months before and 4 months after supplementation. Semen samples were analysed for ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility and morphology. Blood samples were analysed for sex hormone and gonadotrophin levels and phytoestrogen concentrations, and testicular volume was measured using an orchidometer. The phytoestrogen supplement increased plasma genistein and daidzein concentrations to approx. 1 microM and 0.5 microM respectively; yet, there was no observable effect on endocrine measurements, testicular volume or semen parameters over the study period. This is the first study to examine the effects of a phytoestrogen supplement on reproductive health in males. We conclude that the phytoestrogen dose consumed had no effect on semen quality."

>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11880595:

"Only three intervention studies reported hormonal effects of soy isoflavones in men. These recent studies in men consuming soyfoods or supplements containing 40--70 mg/d of soy isoflavones showed few effects on plasma hormones or semen quality. These data do not support concerns about effects on reproductive hormones and semen quality."

This article explains the first reviex quite well and puts forward criticism to the poor quality of studies showing effect: foodnavigator.com/Article/2009/06/30/Review-finds-no-effect-of-soy-on-testosterone

100g of tofu for example has between ~9-30mg isoflavones, this amount has never been shown to have any effect and as we see in the third study no effect was observed at a daily 40-70mg isoflavone consumption for 2 months.

Soymilk only has between 0.7-10mg/100g so no worries there either.

Here you can see isoflavone content of different foods: data.nal.usda.gov/system/files/Isoflav_R2-1.pdf

To my understanding it's all the shady soy derivates in burgerland food. Properly fermented soy (legit tofu not tofu burger tofu) is alright.

It dosen't change your hormones unless you're overeating it A LOT. However something Veeky Forums hates to admit is that MILK decreases your T and increases your estrogen.

>doc shilling soy is jewish
are jews the greatest ally of vegans?

Soy, HAES
its all good for you goyim

Think of it this way: An estrogen molecule is like a jumbo jet that attaches to the Jetway of an airport. It discharges passengers into the terminal, which is suddenly a busy, noisy place. Phytoestrogens, being weak estrogens, are like small, private planes with few passengers and no cargo, yet they still occupy the Jetway after landing. When phytoestrogens occupy the cell, normal estrogens cannot. Plant estrogens do not eliminate all of estrogen's effects, but they do minimize them, apparently reducing breast cancer risk and menstrual symptoms

You are in each and every soy thread arent you?

Of course it's fucking bad for you. Why the hell do you think /fit and the majority of bodybuilders won't touch it with a ten foot pole. If it was so great Ronnie Colemans would be chugging the shit instead of gear. Fuck off with your soy shit.
And for you numales that say you're not eating much of it... try checking the labels on the food you stuff your feminine mouths with. If it comes in a box, plastic, can or wrapper theirs a 90% chance there is soy in it faggot.
I rarely eat anything out of a box, can or plastic. Avoid that poison like the plague and eat whole foods you prepare yourself for real gains retard.

Those studies are bullshit. They need to study a baseline group that doesn't eat canned or boxed food. The average burger is already saturated with soy from it being added to the majority of garbage they eat. A little bit supplemented for the study will only show a little off baseline, but compare it to someone who avoids it by eating whole foods and you'd see a drastic difference.
Your soy shit is cancer and you know it. Keep pushing that crap all you want, no intelligent person is going to buy your soy meme, nor your vegan garbage for that matter.
Clean whole foods with lots of lean meats is how you get ripped. Period.

Just because it's funded by the soy industry doesn't mean the study is bad. You need to find an actual flaw in the study to conclude that a study is bad, do you even know how science works?

desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/fit/image/1499/53/1499533977392.jpg

How about you just eat your soy faggot and shut up while we get the gains. Your pushing these meme so hard, which is enough to tell us it's bullshit.

Just because the tobacco industry funded the studies that said tobacco isn't bad for you doesn't mean it's wrong. It's science you soy fag.

>keep X in X
That's not how it works anymore and that's why /pol/ exists.

Been taking 4-5 scoops soy protein powder a day for 5 months, no difference from when i used whey. Better recovery, less doms, same progression eating vegan.

Here's one study I found real quick.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18650557
>There was an inverse association between soy food intake and sperm concentration that remained significant after accounting for age, abstinence time, body mass index, caffeine and alcohol intake and smoking. In the multivariate-adjusted analyses, men in the highest category of soy food intake had 41 million sperm/ml less than men who did not consume soy foods (95% confidence interval = -74, -8; P, trend = 0.02).
>These data suggest that higher intake of soy foods and soy isoflavones is associated with lower sperm concentration.
