Saw one of these today while I was spinning for warmup...

Saw one of these today while I was spinning for warmup. Tapped her on the shoulder saying I was concerned she would hurt herself. Insisted she knew what she was doing. After that she used the assisted pullup machine as a steppy-down machine (hands on bars, one foot stairmastering on the kneepad).
Where are they getting these meme exercises from? Am I wrong to make sure a newbie wasn't going to hurt herself?

yeah it was kind of a dick move. if some guy told me i was using the equipment wrong for getting creative with it i'd be kinda upset at him

I haven't met many women, who take advice from strangers. Usually it's seemingly taken as offensive because of their inflated egos. Granted, many guys are like this too, but women, you might be more successful giving her a brochure and just walking away.

You know how you can activate your glutes? Fucking squats and deadlifts. You never see these idiots doing these with any weights heavier than 10 lbs though.

I used to train at an mma gym that had a good reputation and a small tight community where everyone was open with each other and everyone was passionate about martial arts. There, I had many conversations and discussions on how to train etc.

instagrams whores do heavy barbell work too. what you're seeing is superior glute accessories for added aesthetics gains.

That's fine, it activates a diffrent part of your glute, when your ass is against the pads its more the front of your glute as opposed to the VG insertion and rear glute

the hip abductor un-ironically targets glute MUCH better than either of those movement, deadlift hardly touches it at all without a trap bar

Note these are 70% or greater intensity.

Glute kickbacks in the machine if your gym has one is very nice aswell, you can do them to failure, and they fucking really pump your hamstrings, loch ness monster tier vasculairty/pumps

Women at my gym do the same. Especially the pull up machine as a leg exercise. I think some get it from some of the trainers and others get it from Instagram.
With that said, those women typically look pretty bad, from a lifting point of view.
The strong looking ones don't do any of that stuff.

As a newbie (been doing body weight and cardio for over a year, but only started heavy lifting in the last few months) I find it really helpful if someone comes over and helps me with my form. I think you did the right thing

I can never seem to activate my glutes on pull throughs and glute Bridges are too difficult to set up (in a way where the bar doesn't crush my shit)
So I've been doing lunges as they are much easier to perform and still offer some glute involvement.
