lol there seems to be a lot of hate towards smith machines and I don't really see why. I get it can restrict movement, but that's about the only negative I see. I personally like them. I usually go to gym alone so when I do squats and have no one to spot me, I just use the smith machine (I go pretty hard with weight too because all I need to do is twist the bar and the machine will hold the bar for me). This also applies to chest press. Can someone explain the hate towards smith machines?

Serious question, I'm trying to squat AtG but my gym doesn't have a power rack or squat rack that let's me go all the way down. I squat in the Smith machine because of this. What should i do?

It's the opposite of what you're saying: moreover, smith machines are used for rehab purposes after injuries and the like.

This isn't an issue at all.

Your only argument here would be: it's not a compound exercises, therefore it's wrong to replace free weight exercises with smith machine variants and expect the same stimuli and the same results. This would be a very valid argument indeed. A smith {bench, squat, whatever} only **mimics** the equivalent free weights exercise, but it has to be considered for all internet and purposes a machine exercise and an isolation exercise. So, smith machines can be a *good* complement to your routine for isolation purposes and/or for rehab.
I'd go even further and say: squat + smith squat >>>>>> squat + leg press.

Sadly most noobs (and juicers) only do the smith variants.
