I didn't like it very much.

That isn't what happened nor the point of the film. Anton's swimming was a metaphor for his dream of going to space. Him being genetically inferior meant that he would have to devote himself and nearly die in the process in order to achieve what the genetic perfect people could already do. That is how he beat his brother, he was willing to die for it and used his will to overcome genetic inferiority.

So i have not seen this movie in awhile, was the doctor at the end of the movie and the doctor he saw through the movie actually his dad? I remember him always saying how he wants to tell him about his son that wants to go to Gattaca.

Why was swimming used? Well, it has a great mental component to it. Ask anyone who has ever almost drowned that could swim and they will likely tell you they thought they would be able to swim well but started panicking couldn't. Anton was not physically stronger than his brother but won despite it.
