I'm also a former slight fatty, as I was chubby for a while as a kid but I grew and never got stretch lines because I'm youngish. Initially I was a cardio bunny too and did like 1hr of running a day to loose body fat. It's a very good feel to go from neckbeard to fit by normie standards especially for the face gains. That picture's pretty funny though, how were you confident enough to run around in public naked like that though?

If you don't feel comfortable squatting in a cage, I'd suggest either doing your squats with dumbbells, to get used to the motion, or using a hack squat machine if your gym has one. Main thing you need to focus on in your legs right now is strength.
I'd do walking lunges with dumbbells too.
They'll tear you up, but they need to be done.
