Oats + water in a bowl then microwave for 2.30 is the most efficient way to make oats.
I'd say it's probably just personal preference and how much water you cook it in. I personally prefer mine like OP's, there might also be some sort of liquid added.

Instant oats and quicknready oats are trash. I will only eat steel cut. Don't ever, and I mean EVER @(you) me ever again

Bobs redmill instant oats, that the brand I buy, non of that poverty brand shit. mix with hot water, throw in some cinnamon, honey or maple syrup, some fruit like strawberries, bananas or raisins and you got yourself a delish bowl of hot oats right there.

1 tsp chia seeds
1/2 banana
1 serving cup of unsweetened applesauce
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 pinch of salt
A little honey if you feel like it.
1/2 cup milk
All of that into a mason jar in the fridge overnight, eat straight out of the jar the next morning. You can make like 4 at once and they'll be safe in the fridge all week, but they get mushier as they go and I like mine slightly more textured, so I make them one at a time
