I've really wanted to for the past few years but I'm worried I'd get hurt and not be able to work

its rough, there's always guys at my club getting over injuries

Wrong board.
or
>>/sp/
Has a general. I don't remember which.

Same. My knees are already messed up don't want to permanently fuck them up.

Im 318 lbs. Judo is my fucking shit man. by far the most superior martial art for big motherfuckers. i feel like the hulk vs loki just throwing around and slapping 180 lb manlets on the ground. although tbf i got fucking slammed every time by a 215 lb marine that was honorably discharged for type 1 diabetes.

I do bjj, but we have a bunch of Judo black belts, including the instructor.

How do I improve my push? Can't seem to push or escape from a pin.

Practiced judo since 1st grade. Now I am 21 and not doing any martial arts.. Realized how much I love it the moment I stopped.
Injuries are a serious thing since it is a rough sport. Good warm up and growing mass helps with those. Also stretches, always fucking strech

>shirt pulling: the sport

get rid of the kimono and I'll take it seriously

>martial arts aren't Veeky Forums related

Ok buddy.

You want a tip to beat everyone?

a) grip strength
b) just relax and become dead weight as soon as you feel your balance going

They won't be able to throw you cleanly anymore. BJJ guys do this all the time. I learned it from Karate - funnily enough, after a few months of Goju Ryu, I have no trouble in grappling at all.

To avoid injury judo:
Don't tense up
Practice break falls
Be ok with getting thrown (keep your ego in check while sparring)
Warm up/ stretch before
Don't compete (even though that's one of the funest things about judo)

Not 100% guaranteed to keep you injury free but that's the best advice i have.

you mean a tip to beat white belts?

you'll only ever be going against white belts kid

get knee pads, judo is hard on the knees.

I think you quoted the wrong person. I didn't say that.

Isn't judo just wrestling with added chink retarded spiritual shit?

No. Judo has no spiritual shit. It does have a culture with respect to a way of life.

>fundamental misunderstanding of what Judo and Wrestling are.

Why am I not surprised.

why is judo better than wrestling?

>Why am I not surprised.
Because you were already expecting this.

Neither of us said that.

Which is better then and what is the difference? As far as I know, in Judo and Wrestling the goal is to get the opponent on the ground, but in Judo you are also wearing some kind of bathrobe for some reason.

judo is just wrestling with a coat on

>Which is better
Given they attend some basic constraints I don't think any major martial art is significantly better than others.
>what is the difference
They are different martial arts although both involve locks and throws. In Judo all (99%) techniques are based on channeling your opponent's strength to knock him out of balance and assume control of the situation. By submission or incapacitation.

Pretty much, it's hella fun though.

Im debating whether to go back to judo or start kyokushin. I'm mostly striking background.

They're both great for what they are and both significantly different. You'd be better comparing sumo and wrestling

Muay Thai here, I like it so far

Also just started judo and loving it. Also made me realise how little the gym has prepared me for this. Sparing partner has about 3 inches and 10kg on me and could barely move him! Also anyone have any tips on relaxing but still keeping the grip? Got hella gi burn on the last knuckles on my fingers. Should I tape up next time?

have you been to either of those boards?

literally about watching TV wrestling, not partaking in any sports

about watching sports, not playing sports

wrestling emphasizes takedowns versus judo emphasizing throws. judo emphasizes long control pins and submissions, wrestling emphasizes flash pins. all judo throws can be adapted to no gi grappling scenario. once you've grappled for a while you will realize they are very similar, but also extremely different in methodology.

Tape until calluses. Had the same deal when i did gymnastics from high bar and rings.
>get rips
>cut off skin
>apply betadine and tape
>continue training
>repeat until no more rips

Cheers bro, I'm already used to taping palm tears from climbing but taping the back of the finger seems counter intuitive 'cause if I tape over the knuckle I won't be able to bend it, I'm sure there will be some techniques though.

Wanted to try judo for a while, but there’s no schools near me. I’ve decided to try BJJ, but does anyone have a recommendation for how I could practice judo without a dojo?

BJJ here. Hotter chicks, more money, and easier on the body.

You jelly weeb?

find a semi-high place to jump off of and repeat multiple times

>heel hooks, kneebars, toe holds
>easier on the body

Sure is you stupid bastard. I'm our gym's foremost leglocker and have never hurt anyone with a leglock nor have I ever been hurt with a leglock.

Resistance band uchikomi. Use an inner tube. Great interval workout.

it's also quite funny. Our gym's Judo instructor who is also a purple belt in BJJ, quite large, and always rolls 110% becomes like a scared pussy cat at the application of even a lowly "straight" ankle lock.

Something ingrained in Judo culture about leglocks being scary or something. What's scary is this guy demoing a throw on you as hard as he can.

catch and release on heel hooks, toe holds are bad but not as bad, knee bars are no concern, why would they be?. You're dumb ass probably is like "hurrr durr training knee bars are dangerous" but don't think twice about how quickly a kimura can fuck your shit up

Blue belt here

Got the shit tore out of my ankle via toe hold during comp

Got foot drop and my foot was basically flopping at the end of my shin, taped it up and went on with my life

Still better than judo

who said anything about training friendio above mentioned more money therefore talking about competing, gonna catch and release a heel hook in competition with money on the line? Conversely gonna tap straight away with money on the line?

Lets be honest boys BJJ is just Judo's ground game but improved. The Brazilians only learnt it because a Judo master went over who specialised in the ground and taught the Brazilians who added things and developed the art from there. There is a school of judo that basically specialises in ground game but as it's not recognised in the olympics most people are only exposed to the throwing dominant part of the art.

Honestly, I think catch and release on heel hooks is too cautious in a lot of cases.

If I am worried about hurting someone like a spazzing white belt, I wouldn't even put them in a heel hook position. I learned that after a white belt (who I mistakenly thought was a blue belt) spun the wrong way out of a heel hook I was apply no pressure on, got and and started yelling and grabbing his leg. Calf cramp. Fortunately, I was able to let go in time one he started spinning. Ironically, I coach had literally just given a speech about tapping to heel hooks and not spinning if you don't know what you are doing.

Inside heel hooks are far more dangerous and I can see why you may not even want to apply those. I sometimes do. Normally what I do on any heel hook is once I catch them, i won't apply pressure and look directly at my training partner. Depending on their level, spazziness, and understanding of leglocks I may start apply the heel hook.

This is approach is obviously more nuanced and hard to apply on a large scale than catch and release, but then again, we had a spazzy white belt inside heel hook one of our brown belts who is a cop who has been out of work with a surgery. So I generally just recommend white belts not do heel hooks at all. I tell many of my students not to do heel hooks because I know they don't know them well enough to apply them, and certainly they don't know if their training partner knows them well enough to know when to tap.

Kneebars can actually be quite dangerous. One of our blackbelts has a fucked up knee from one. The problem isn't the normal kneebar, the problem is when the angle turns sideways, into a lateral kneebar. There is often no time to tap as the submissions is on immediately. I had to yell at some whitebelts this week to stop when I notice one of their kneebars was turning lateral.

Basically the problem with leglocks is lack of knowledge, spazzes, and egos, not the submissions themselves.

Actually, when I said money I was talking about coaching/privates/running a school.

Oh well yes I could see there being more money in that aspect because of it’s use and popularity in MMA

Don't post this ever again. You don't know the bullshit we've been through.

No one cares faggot

This is true but I'll still pick judo over bjj any day.

just started this past week. Really liking it, and the teachers are really knowledgeable and patient. I just wanna be able to take care of myself, not too interested in competing. any good tips to improve?

practice faggot
go daily, more than once a day if possible

I'm actually a bjj guy but I dig judo, hate faggots like you that ask for tips instead of just training more.

or maybe i can only go twice a week because of work and the gym. but sure, im the faggot

According to Danaher the worst offenders are pulling guard while throwing your hips on your partners knees and sloppy throwing techniques.

One of my training partners in bjj has judo background and is addicted to leg locks. Half of the time he's going for them when we roll

All the pivoting would wreck my knees

Thats beautifull

I started judo 3 months ago, best hobby I ever started as well.

Learning to fall in judo is one of the best life carryover skils already

I did judo but then I discovered kudo.
Also martial arts are boring.

white belt detected.

judo is something you do when you are a kid.
like 7 to 14 yyear old. its great then.

if you are a grown man go pick up thai boxing or mma. you pleb.

t. did Judo from 7 to 10 and never got bullied cause kicked enemy ass with judo on the playground

Are you bridging properly? You shouldn't be pushing with your arms to make space 90% of the time you should be arching yourself with your legs then shrimping out.

Assuming you are bridging correctly, squats and neck exercises

"Better" isn't the word I would use but I prefer judo because it includes guard play, armlocks and chockholds which wrestling does not. I even like the kata too because I'm a big martial arts nerd. If the IJF would quit fucking around with the rules and end the leg grab ban things would be golden

Just remember that anyone talking about how one style is superior to another in every way is a loser.

Attached: genki.jpg (600x422, 77K)

>you mean a tip to beat white belts?
Confirmed for noob.

It works great on all black belts too. Works on everyone doing Judo. Just like leg locks work against anyone doing BJJ.

Train leg locks and tap the black belts. Sure, they'll probably kick you out. Then find a Judo gym and learn the real stuff.

>Just remember that anyone talking about how one style is superior to another in every way is a loser.
That's blah-blah.

Shame we don't really have neutral NHB fights anymore. UFC favored grapplers from the beginning - before that, nobody even took them seriously.

Disagree. Most combat sports have real life application and at that point it really does come down to who the better fighter is.

HOWEVER you're not gonna sit there and tell me that wing chun is a perfectly legitimate style and not inferior to every boxing and kickboxing style in every possible way.

>UFC favored grapplers

In what way? Because they were allowed to grapple? If you want to watch anything goes fights watch Rio hero's or vale tudo, you're gonna realize though that the best shit in the UFC is the best shit there to except you might see someone spike and elbow or hit the groin every now and then.

if it's not a priority for you like lifting is then give up now you pleb, you're never gonna make it

but if you sag your weight, why don't they just throw you with ouchi or something instead

that's neat af
