Except Chaos can corrupt ANYONE. Everyone is fair game. And remember that the Imperium doesn't like to publicize all the bad shit that happens to them.
Just toss in that their leader fell first and the rest of the troops slowly followed in falling and weren't even aware of what the fuck was happening. Hell, even better if they still think they are fighting the good fight.

When really the only people confused about their loyalties are the alpha legion themselves.
There's a regiment of Scions that are very unsubtly hinted at being Alpha Legion operatives.
Th scions has two examples of them rebelling.
