Hey there, chummers and runners. I've been a long-time decker/rigger player, and I want to mix it up by playing as a physical adept, specifically one who does a lot of classical fencing with a rapier and main gauche dagger. What are some key adept powers that I need for that sort of thing?

Well yes, snipers are useless. This isn't really anything new.

But things like reinhardt's shield or Mercy's caduceus can't be directly replicated through technology. You can make pretty much everyone as adepts though.

Obviously you need to pump that agility/strength and then get improved reflexes. Critical strike is good too and think about some martial arts. Really you just need improved reflexes at max so you can get those parries in if thats your thing.

What's the best way to do character creation with a fresh faced group barely used to D&D?

So I have a free spirit NPC for my players. Problem is that I don't really know a whole lot about free spirits. Where can I go to read up on them?

Well, yeah. Magic and adepts fill in most of the blanks in the tech.

Maybe let them pick "race" and "class" and guide them through character creation? Gear selection is probably the most complicated part after skills so if you can smooth that over for them it should be pretty easy.

Life modules are in 5e, but they are fucking terrible to actually make characters with.

You can either do chargen with the Life Modules (from Run Faster and elsewhere) and then as GM remake the characters with Sum-To_ten/karmagen so they're not shit, or just do straight Sum-To-Ten (also in Run Faster).

Anyone who isn't using the PACKS from Run Faster is a fool.

My group had a map and two whiteboards with main character portraits tacked up around the map and connected with strings, marked with connections. The GM made the portraits. It was pretty great.

Yeah, that wouldn't fly at an office, unless they were super chill. College dorm is where it was. It was a pretty sweet set-up actually. The players, mostly me, we're in charge of making their own connections, and writing up plans. It was pretty fun. The GM of that game is a terrific GM.

So, Chummer design question for those of you that GM; I'd like to implement an option to selectively permit rules violations when moving to career mode (linked to my eventual goal of having every rule be toggle-able in the Options) but I'm not sure if/how I should present it in the application. What I want to avoid is a situation where a player can just click through a bunch of prompts and present an illegal character, but the broken shit should be representable in some way.

Perhaps when characters are brought into career mode with illegal options, those options have a different font color in chummer and on the print out? Like if you took a Betaware Datajack into Career mode, that Datajack would be in red font.

What kind of character would benefit most from dabbling in technomancy in 5e? Obviously the best aspects to gain with the least investment would be a couple of sprites and a few echoes but who could really use it best?

Rigger seems obvious because of the high Logic and the benefit of shoving some machine sprites into drones for diagnostics.

But a street samurai could also use an FFF echo for a very cheap pain editor and some diagnostics on his smart guns too.

Go root around in "Da Archive" pdf in the OP of this thread: Inside you'll find damn near everything from 4E and 5E and a lot of stuff from the older editions as well.

Checked all things with Shadowrun in them, what we've got in the Pastebin is slightly more comprehensive and up to date for both 5e and 4e. And we've got 3e and back, so there's that.

There is shadowrun stuff in files not specifically labeled as having Shadowrun in them. A lot of descriptions are like "X, Y, Z, A, B, C and more!" and Shadowrun happens to fall into the "and more" part.

They've definitely got FASA era stuff in there if you dig enough. One of the files even has some of the old novels, magazine stuff, and more.

So how can I get the best use out of alchemy? I was thinking I could deliver touch based spells via arrows, and do stuff like put crank on a poisoned arrow to get the most of its effects, but what do you guys recommend?

I really like Boar from Howling Shadows. Very evocative of a certain image.

Healing spells. Most are cast usually as touch, with alchemy they all need to be Command Word. Suddenly you can Heal, Stabilize and Increase Reflexes from behind cover. Super useful

Depends on the optimisation level of the rest of your group. Alchemy is fucking terrible, but if your other party members are throwing around like 10 dice for their core skill then it's less terrible in comparison.

Slapping knockout on an injection arrow filled with narcoject is a fun way to kill someone with 2:1 overflow damage though. Heal is super nice because it suddenly becomes a ranged spell you don't have to sustain, but I can't remember the last time that was ever actually a problem. The general meta in my groups is that healing happens after the combat, since you can't first-aid someone that's been magic'd.

tl;dr if you want to be an efficient mage, you summon spirits because spirits are broken as fuck. If you want to be a competent mage, get a decent drain stat and just cast spells normally. If you want to be able to brag about not getting a nosebleed during the run, be an alchemist.
I get what they're going for, but grabbing a bunch of zip files on the off chance there's an outdated document in there seems a bit of a wasted effort though.
It's doable, I guess. I'd prefer to avoid saving content like that to the actual items, but I could shenanigans something with the internal IDs? Hmm.

Nearly all the links are not a single zip you download, they're mega or mediafire folders or similar such stuff with clearly labeled files, usually inside sorted subfolders.

The closes thing I found was the Smart Target System. DM willing, that could be fluffed to make it switch the rounds used with the Ammo Skip system. Is that what you were thinking of?

The most assholish thing you can do with alchemy is to learn advanced alchemy, and make a non-contact Lot's Curse or the Regeneration preparation whose name escapes me.

The first one's side effect will kill anyone if they can't manage to get it dispelled soon. Potency 1 means they have to have over twenty unfilled physical boxes, and 2 makes it forty.

The regeneration one is there mostly to be an asshole that costs others essence or fucks with their 'ware. I don't even remember the actual negative side effect, although the sustain penalty's a nice down side.

The safe target system from Run & Gun, yeah. Refluffed/hacked to "you cannot shoot those meatbags" to "you can only shoot those meatbags with (type of ammo)".

Can anyone tell me how concealment works in regards to cyber implant weapons?

For example, I'm installing a SMG in an obvious arm for my street samurai. It will be modded for suppressive purposes. If the character engages in close combat, then they'll have cyberspurs on the arm plus a concealed machine pistol, using Gun Kata techniques to help them out.

I know how modding would work on the pistol, but for the cyber implant SMG I'm not so sure. It pops out of the arm, right? So am I correct in assuming concealment doesn't really matter for the weapon, leaving me free to mod it for loud and proud situations?

You cannot detect an implanted weapon simply with patting down, it is as you surmise well-hidden inside the cybernetic arm.

A scanner, however, can detect it. If it gets enough hits on its test, it will identify one of the "non-standard components compared to base model" in the cyberarm as a weapon. Same goes for the Spurs.

Starting up a Sum to Ten street level game and trying to survive character creation /srg/. Didn't like the look of magic so I went for 7 karma human, max attributes and skills. Everything was coming up millhouse right until I went to buy gear. Turns out 6000 nuyen doesn't go very far. How bad of a person am I for grabbing a couple ranks of In Debt, and if that option makes me literal scum, what's the best way to maximize my value? Is it better to have a pair of fake rating 1 SINs, or one rating 2 SIN?

Is streetscum the bullshit generation that only reduces the available money or are you using the good one from the GM section that punishes everybody equal?
If the former is the case:
ABORT, ABORT, ABORT. your GM is an Idiot.

Just play some Adept.
Also: Every SIN besides R4 is useless, you can basically directly go to R1.
Or even better, get a state issued legal SIN.

In Debt at low levels isn't too bad. Just keep in mind that in 5e the teeth may be too bad (and Chummer doesn't handle it right) and, so I've heard, in 4e it's too toothless.

Also, get one rating 2 with the licenses at 2. While most places that do a rating 1 check won't do much if the check ties (because most of those would be Stuffer Shacks and the like), you don't want to get burned buying NERPS, some chips, and a soda.

And that's an actual chance with a rating 1 fake, even if the GM is more likely to use a rating 1 check for something more dramatic or important.

But yeah, depending on how much money you get in your street level campaign, even handling the interest rates can be a problem.

We're using the afformentioned bullshit version where as far as I can tell, only magicky magic men and edgelords are any good at anything.

Is there math/ logic behind the "every SIN that isn't 4+ might as well be a 1" comment, or is that just personal experience? I'm VERY new to the system, so any leg up here is going to be useful.

It's 1 PHYS damage for every 20k you owe, assuming you don't at least pay the 10% interest. That doesn't seem awful, given how strapped for cash I am, but I assume the GM will probably want to fuck with me for circumventing the street level money restrictions.

It gives you karma for it, instead of just counting against the max negative qualities you can have.

Unless that's been errated somewhere, in which case I'd like to know if there's somewhere I can find it that's not trawling through a thread on their forums.

Considering In Debt 1 almost doubles my starting dosh it's really, really tempting.

If you doubt me, ask in the official Forums. A few guys being extremly apt in misinterpreting the written text in Run Faster doesn't change that fact.

Since Sniper Rifles are shite in SR 5e (and probably 4e) what's the best way to get the aesthetic without being a useless wad on your team?

It's not too bad if you take only a few karma of In Debt (at which point you're not breaking the 20k you could get from normal karma spending), but once you get to or past that it can get nasty, especially if you do end up dropping a payment.

Heck, at the 4 karma level you've got the 20k, owe 30k, and need to pay at least 4k to make an actual headway, but preferably want to make a 7k payment one month and then a 5 k on your first few payments so that you can actually make a dent into debt.

Assault Rifles and trick-shooting qualities.

If that's not how it's intended to work then they have worded it very badly, because at the moment in chummer you can get the extra cash from in debt and buy extra cash with nuyen and they stack.

I mean I can believe it ended not being written correctly as Run Faster is an absolute disgrace from an editing and balancing stand point. I mean the shape-changer rules are a half baked thought bubble that clearly hasn't been playtested at all, and the only use I can see for it is to cheat a troll through on a C priority.

Any sort of sniper role will be trash in an urban environment. Marksmen are okay, but they're literally just people who shoot good, not long range snipers.

For Streetscum, stick to level 1 or 2.
And again, just build an Adept.

Its absolutely no fun to play a Character that needs money to develope himself in a setting where you won't have enough Nuyen to rent a decent roof over your head.

Your magic colleagues, on the other hand, will be flinging Fireballs and rocking 2-3 INI-passes regular while you will be hard pressed to do anything usefull at all, with your 7+1D6 INI and your Light Pistol.

The only way a Streetsam might work on Streetscum would be as a Juicer, popping massive amounts of Drugs.

Still subpar to anything Magic related.

Just ask your DM to play Sum-to-7 instead, at least that one punishes everybody equal instead of letting it degrade into Gandalf+his Cyberhobbits.

The problem with snipers is their limited utility. If you approach the aesthetic from the perspective of providing overwatch, be a rigger, use drones for recon and covering fire.
I'm not exactly surprised; I got some surprisingly salty email about Cyber-Snob not allowing you to take betaware because it says it needs that for you to qualify.

See, atm there are three different "viewpoints" how In Debt should work, out of one has no backing from any official person.

1. You buy one rank of In Debt, you get 5000 Nuyen and the other disadvantages. You can still pay additional Nuyen to get Nuyen without Interest at a 2000/1 Karma rate.

2. You buy You buy one rank of In Debt, you get 5000 Nuyen and the other disadvantages.
You CAN'T pay additional Karma to get x times 2000 Nuyen WITHOUT interest.

3. For each rank of in Debt, you are allowed to spend one Karma to get 5000 Nuyen with Interest.

3) is followed by a few people but is utter bullshit, go ask the official Supporters in the Forums if you disagree or search for the threads.

If you factor in the hardmax of 75000 written in the text + the 15 available levels of "in debt", only Version 2 seems the only one that is allowed.

In Chummer, you can at the moment chose how many Cyberlimbs should be factored into the calculation of the Limits and w/e.
The options there are 6 (limbs, Body, head), 5 (limbs, body) and 5 (limbs, head).

The German Version of Chrome Flesh introduced an interesting optional rule:
If you have 4 Cyberlimbs (2 Arms, 2 Legs) you can use them, and only them to calculate your limits et al.
Could you add a fourth option to the Option mentioned above, that simply uses only the 4 Limbs to calculate?

Three is what they were suggesting and having just looked at the text I find it very hard to read it any other way by RAW. IF the people involved have said that's not what they intended, fine but unless it's coming from that actual authors I won't trust the official forum's opinion on anything that place is absolutely polluted with idiots.

How it should work is 1, given the downside is the unavoidable hyper bullshit damage and stacking everything is essential to get some cyberware based characters to work.

I think the idea isn't that it makes hardware/ money-scaling characters MORE doable so much as it takes everything (including magic) equally LESS doable.

Well, you could go 33100 and still end up with a lot of moniez.
The more relevant point is that it pulls Magic Users down to the streetscum level, instead of leaving them basically untouched like the normal rules do.
So your Sam would still suck, but so would the magic users, instead of you having to play with some Magic 6 Adepts.

Going all out for a B priority in nuyen gives you enough to at least do something as a Sam/Decker/Rigger, even if your stats will suffer. An A priority at street level gives you a whopping 75.000 of it, which is simply not enough

"This points" refers to the points spend for the Quality, not additional points to spend on it.

V3 Would make it a ridiculously useless quality anyways, having to spend 2 Karma for 5 thousand Nuyen + a fuckton of Interest.
If you simply want to have more money, there is already a positive quality called "born rich".
V3 doesn't really work with that one existing.

Right so you're talking about using the standard starting cash priorities.
Which I actually the street scum is supposed to do, it's the one is suggested in the GM section. It doesn't mention changing the cash table it just suggests changing the available priorities.

It's Street LEVEL which has normal priorities but changes the return on cash....and nothing else. It's in the character creation chapter and is awful.

Incidentally Street Scum setting is broken in Chummer, the skill chart is shifted so putting a D in it is the same as a E C=D B-C A=B.
And it used the lowered resource chart which by RAW (and by the reason of anyone with a like of sense) it shouldn't.
