Any Kaladesh cards that are gonna show up in Modern?
One sec, just let me get my crystal ball
Besides enemy fastlands? Nah
Infect might play that improved vines.
+2/+2 and hexproof for G
Enemy fastlands will see a lot of play, madcap experiment will see a fair bit of play if inkmoth nexus eats a ban, and in a couple of other cards will slot into some lower tier decks, but nothing is a must play as of now.
2 power increase for G is okay, but I think the potential 4 power increase from vines makes it overall better considering that you most want hexproof on your opponent's turn and a topdeck vines puts you way closer to killing your opponent if things go long.
With jund as top dog again, it'll probably see play to avoid a terminate after you've pumped to attack, basically as another vines. Can't imagine what it'd replace though
I think you mean improved ranger's guile
Vines is still better and more versatile
I finally got around to watching the scg invitational and holy shit Brad Nelson winning in two turns was so dope. That is all I wanted to say
>madcap experiment will see a fair bit of play if inkmoth nexus eats a ban
It will see a fair bit of play regardless of this unlikely banning. It's very solid in RG Valakut decks, where you can power out Emperion on turn 3 very often. The Path doesn't even feel that bad because it more or less guarantees you can play Primeval Titan next turn.
Cathartic Reunion is pimp in dredge. Best card in the set for modern.
Affinity might try Inventors' Fair instead of Sea Gate Wreckage.
Wizards why...?
What went wrong?
>skipping leg day
reality smasher is a fucking stupid card no matter how you look at it
should have cost at LEAST 6 for a 5/4
are those penises or legs?
Wastes mana (or whatever it's called) as a whole
So 2 more weeks to Kaledesh comes out, do you think its modern viable set?
Even though no one gives a shit.
Never
That's not Reality Smasher there Bernie Mac
Penises
Colorless... ya goof
See
that colorless counter for U will likely see sideboard play
>That's not Reality Smasher there Bernie Mac
I know retard I meant Oath eldrazi as a whole
The thing that made the eldrazi cool anyway was that they were these enormous cards with big impacts and it was hard and fun to get out
this is just shit, even delver wasn't good enough to make waves in vintage
savage
You're retarded and sound underage
It's Khans of Tarkir all over again.
"The duals and the sideboard cards are the only ones that will see play."
I get that card evaluation is hard, especially for this set since it introduces HUGE mechanics, but don't be so quick to dismiss the sheer power of the set.
Hell, Energy could be stronger than we think for all we know.
>this nigga never played original zendikar draft
Okay bucko
nope, sorry
You mean RoE draft. Playing fatties in zen draft is an auto loss.
Unban BBE so I can end of turn Kolaghan's command, kill opposing bob, get back BBE from graveyard, then cast that shit on my turn
Yeah the spoilers have been promising
I agree, I like the idea of making Eldrazi require colorless, but making a new cost symbol for it was dumb. There's a total of 8 cards that use it in the cost line(which is the only place you would need it, as generic mana in your pool has always been colorless). How hard would it have been to add a single line to these 8 cards that said "at lease {x} of the casting cost must be payed from a colorless source"?
>at lease {x} of the casting cost must be payed from a colorless source
Mountains are colorless. Your ruling doesn't work.
They tried other methods, but they all sucked compared to the benefits of a colorless symbol.
>benefits
no good came from colorless mana cards
>They tried other methods, but they all sucked compared to the benefits of a colorless symbol.
The benefits of for no reason errata-ing 2k cards? Also, what if in the future you had a creature you wanted 4 colorless mana required to cast it, are you litterally going to put {butthole}{butthole}{butthole}{butthole}{x} on a card?
How is this unacceptable but GGGGGG and so on is fine?
Watched a Griselbrand combo player go to 2 life on turn 2 because he named Goryo's on Dark Plunge or whatever and didn't find it for 17 cards.
And then I path'd his griselbrand
>Watched a Griselbrand combo player go to 2 life on turn 2 because he named Goryo's on Dark Plunge or whatever and didn't find it for 17 cards.
spoils of the vault? gisshoalbrand doesnt play that
Yes, that card. He also played the card that was pay X life to look at the top X cards and pick one which is the name I was fumbling for. His spoils were all in japanese and I never remembered the name.
He wasn't playing the optimized list and it cost him the game.
you literally dont play spoils or plunge, because they nuke your wincons a lot of the time. Ad Nauseum can get away with it because they have ways to still win even with most their deck exlied.
It's not my deck man, and it didn't work for him.
Unbanning jace. Blue is shit right now and ancestral visions didn't do fuck all for any decks. It sucks right now because it's a field of soft counters and shitty library manipulation in the form of serum visions. What a shit card. God I'm so fucking butt mad!!
Bant eldrazi is blue and gitaxian probe is a great blue card :^)
>Blue is shit right now
get in line, white is still the worst color in modern
Technically bant eldazi doesn't run any blue cards because of devoid.
Holy shit death's shadow is too much fun.
First time giving it a shot and just had two turn 3 wins on the draw.
How come you guys didn't tell me how good and fucked up this deck feels to play?
I play it too, without baubles for now it's pretty fun, like having a 19/19 double strike trample on turn 3 swinging for lethal is great.
I'm trying to get into modern, but I'm having trouble getting the ice pick past my sinus'. Is there an easier way to enjoy this format?
...
Unbanning Jace wouldn't even do much, I honestly think that Nahiri is a better walker than jtms in modern now; high loyalty, quick instakill ultimate, capable of exiling creatures... that seems just much better than bounce for -1 and a 5 turn ultimate. Brainstorming for 0 is of course insane but bolt is much more prevalent in modern than legacy
Pic related in Burn?
Also, Scrapheap Scrounger seems very good.
This card is gonna go in a lot of sideboards
What, would Burn cut? Our list Is so right with the addition of ACommand and Nacatl, we've got like, four flex slots, and the cards filling those slots are way better than that.
Yeah I agree, just like affinity burn is so tightly knit at the moment that the barrier of entrance for any new tech is insanely high
People were predicting a fucking mox opal ban when kaladesh was announced because with all those new artifacts affinity was bound to be pushed over the edge, and I haven't seen a single card that could potentially be played in affinity
Yeah, they say they don't test for Modern, or even care that much about it really, but it's pretty obvious they played it pretty safe with Kaladesh.
Although, RG Energy beats is looking like a fun deck that might even be a decent Modern port.
This will see play in G/R Stompy decks. Also Naya Burn perhaps.
This vehicle is pretty good. I can see myself running it in Naya Burn, crewing it with Wild Nacatl.
Eldrazi of phyrexian obliterator.
Ill take the smasher any day.
maybe if you're running a deck with no removal.
>4 CMC
>burn
...
Been playing this recently, it's a lot of fun and has a lot of good matchups. Has fairly good interaction and a clock against combo and outgrinds most fair decks off the back of norin combos.
4 Norin the Wary
4 Champion of the Parish
4 Thalia's Lieutenant
2 Soul Warden
2 Soul's Attendant
2 Abzan Falconer
4 Dark Confidant
3 Genesis Chamber
3 Blood Moon
4 Thoughtseize
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Path to Exile
4 Marsh Flats
3 Arid Mesa
2 Bloodstained Mire
1 Godless Shrine
2 Sacred Foundry
1 Blood Crypt
2 Plains
2 Swamp
3 Cavern of Souls
SB:
2 Auriok Champion
2 Grafdigger's Cage
3 Stony Silence
2 Rest in Peace
2 Mark of Asylum
2 Wear // Tear
2 Electrickery
This deck is gross. Once you have 4 life gainers out, it's nearly impossible to kill you
For some reason I always think Norin is a goblin, didn't realize he'd work with Champion of the Parish.
Why this isn't played in modern?
Mana Leak better when there's none in the yard
Mana Leak better with snap
Its a better Skiz that self-animates itself the first turn and then can be crewed with Wild Nacatl for additional damage. It being colorless means its pretty easy to cast, arguably easier than Ball Lightning.
What about decks like merfolk that can either run pierce or negate?
Wouldn't rune snag work better in the long run?
You see it once in a long while as Mana Leak 5- 8, but it's a really bad feeling to rip one off the top in turn 5+.
New Chandra might swing herself a slot in Jund.
If you consider Skred a proper Modern deck then it is a sure thing since she will definitely find a place there.
Forgot to attach pic related.
Merfolk is an agrro deck, long run isn't what it wants to be doing. When you're trying to counter a board wipe or combo piece spell pierce and negate are both better than rune snag.
You can crew it with Goblin Guide to null its ability. It comes in very handy if the game gets long.
Of the Gearhulks, the Green is the best one. Its x100 times better than a Terra Stomper and the +1/+1 counters give it a very high impact from the moment it hits the board.
We should expect this card on Stompy, ramp and even some midrange as a curve topper. Its just 5 cmc after all.
See
Like, have you played Burn? You're hardly ever at 4 lands anyway. This dumb car is dead in your hand for a lot games. Burns lists are so tight, they can't even afford flex slots for this piece of crap.
I would literally run any four drop that Jund plays before considering anything else.
Absolutely with white in a fairly far second. The rest are lightyears behind and not playable, but green is the biggest, greenest big green dude since Terra Stomper and god DAMN
>running kalitas in burn
>Unbanning Jace wouldn't even do much
It would help wizards in their quest to create the most expensive cardboard known to man
I'd do it before fleetwheel crappier.
Put him in the side of a mardu/jund burn shell. Laugh as people give me the most hilarious looks.
You think this card has a chance in Affinity? I mean it does take a slot in the 3 drop department, dies to removal.
If you're suggesting that, you don't understand how Affinity works.
Your hand is already empty by the time you can play it
>5cmc
>stompy
?????????
I fucking love when removing my own creature is the correct play
>Opponent at 2, swing with 2 bloodghasts into empty board
>He reanimates a griselbrand and blocks one for the lifelink
>"So I survive at 7 and one of your ghasts dies."
>"Before damage, I abrupt decay my own ghast that you blocked"
>mfw his face
Preventing Greezy from dealing damage is the only reason you see Baneslayer in Legacy.
okay I got it, midrange affinity
with actual affinity cards maybe
baneslayer doesnt see any play in legacy
ITT insane plays you got to make to win the game
>playing Jeskai Nahiri versus merfolk, lost game 1, playing game 2
>opponent has a chalice of the void on 1 and on 2
>I have stony silence into play, he's playing merfolk through Cavern of Souls
>Wear//Tear his Chalice on 2 by fusing it and also targeting my own Stony Silence, giving it cmc3
>follow up with helix snap helix
>win
game 3, same opponent
>opponent has chalice on 0 and on 1 to stop my AV
>cast Engineered Explosives off Ghost Quarter and Desolate Lighthouse, my only two colorless lands
>EE has cmc2 on the stack but sunburst 0
>blow up both chalices, resolve AV, flurry of cmc1 removal
>win
those were some saltwater fish I tell ya what
Midrange Affinity would be terrible. You'd get outvalued by every Ancient Grudge.
topdecking dregemangler and hitting for 3 against legacy jund for the win. IT was the only thing I could have played to win, Had 4 in the deck 2 in graveyard.
Will this card see play in the traditional Death's Shadow aggro or the Jund delirium focused list?
Probably this. Plus madcap and Chandra.
since I'm building a Wilt-Leaf Abzan deck atm, I could imagine playing pic related as 1-of SB card against going-wide strategies.
Damn that's really nice actually
Serious question. Why do you guys enjoy modern when legacy is arguably the best format there is?
I'm not made of money and no one plays legacy around here anyway
I play both because both are popular where I live
There are any number of reasons.
I'm lucky if I get to play Modern once a month. Everyone around here is all Standard All The Time! So no legacy. Mostly standard, commander, modern in that order.
It can be suffering, but at least I'm good enough in standard to do well most weeks.
I don't know anyone that plays Legacy. Also, I bought Affinity for Modern when the total cost of the deck was about $200 and practically nothing has changed about it since, Infect was mostly the same story, and I had 90% of Dredge lying around in my collection so it only cost me like $50 to put it together.
Basically, I have no reason not to play Modern and multiple reasons not to play Legacy.
That's your opinion. I don't play in a pro tour-esque meta and I don't find legacy all that great. It's fun but not for me
