I've always wanted to play a former street urchin/pick pocket in algiers who was conscripted into the french foreign legion and found that his talent with a knife translated well as a field surgeon, but deserted because he didn't want to die for another mans country and then something something now he's a part of the party.

Not because of any fetish. I just really want to break away from morose, irrationally self-sacrificial types, and playing a stereotypical genki girl seems like a good way to do that.

Unless you want the literal French Foreign Legion I don't really see why you couldn't do it with most systems

If would be very hard to play because I'd want him to be an actual exploration of Golden Age of Islam and Arabian Nights style mythology and culture, but everyone would just think I'm a terrorist.

Wasn't the 'golden age of Islam' the time period where they had just recently conquered an actual successful set of nations wealth wise, culturally and scientifically but hadn't finished ruining it yet?

Not Deus Vult meming or anything, but historically I'm reasonably sure Islam has behaved like a non horde version of the mongols, basically consuming more successful societies for short term warfare boosts, and languishing when they ran out of momentum.

I'm not an Islamic scholar, so beyong my agreeing with you that Muslims are more religious versions of the Mongols, I can't say how many of their achievements were their own and how many were due to them extrapolating from conquered people's works.

Either way, its the aesthetic I'm after more then the historical realities. Scimitars and robes and sandals and djinn and pseudo-Taoism in Islamic wrappings in a fantasy setting.

I have always wanted to play a Pro-Wrestling/Lucha inspired character, and every time I have gone through the time to make the sheets we end up cancelling the campaign due to stupid circumstances. So far one was in Pathfinder, I made one out of an Oread Barbarian in the style of Randy Savage, and in the champion system I planned to make a luchador who grows in density named Jaguar Masivo

Islamic Scholars are like gender studies majors, they study the religion's version of the history and not the actual history.

I was going to suggest india/sikhs/nomadic desert folks or pre-islamic middle eastern empires like the sumerians, but the Sumerians were all science and polytheism and shit like the greeks, with the cool ornate garments, but your character design seemed pretty specific. I can't really help you, your character concept is basically Islamic sand assassin, which is naturally going to get questioning looks/Vans from your average person/fbi agent.

If I had to do something like that I'd go with desert nomad that worships shamanic earth spirits, like taliyah ffrom league of legends or like Genji's Boduin skin from overwatch.

You get your swords, your turbans, your sandals, but tribal hymns, enemies of the earth, and a vague spiritual afterlife of ancestor spirits instead of the paradise and infidels and nasheeds. That parts pretty core islamic.

My current PC is a Not-Babylonian king in a Chrono-Trigger game, so I pretty much have the Sumerian-esq angle covered.

If I ever got around to playing this guy, he would be fully Islamic-Dune style, not pre-Islamic middle east, since I'm already doing pre-Islamic middle east.

An undead Champion in 5E. It's never gonna happen but a man can dream.

During a war, he was a sergeant who was fanatically devoted to his captain, king, and country. On an ambush mission of utmost importance, his squad met an unexpected mage who blew them away with a single fireball. However, through sheer inability to leave his duty unfulfilled, he stood up, his body still ablaze inside his plate armour, and charged at the terrified dozen he was sent to destroy.

It took him days to realize that his body has been burnt right down to the bones. He felt fine and thought that his captain was only joking. Unable to put to death such a loyal soldier, nor to let him continue to sserve in the army, the captain commissioned for him a fresh plate armour that covered his entire body perfectly, with a little magic to help fill the gaps.

His captain sent him to police the realm, to do what needed to be done to protect the land and subject of His Majesty. With zeal and chivalry in his heart he set out to obey the command of his beloved captain.

A campaign where the party is all monsters.

I have severals.

- Lawful Evil Cleric, making pacts with the party members for healing and blessings and resurrection.

- Knight Errand, roaming the world living from small contracts and other errands. Much closer to Mifune's character from Yojimbo / Sanjuro than Knights looking for muh honor and glory and blessings to woe a lady.

- Shadowrun gun for hire, stockpiling weapons & ammo in his "house", litteraly a garage filled with one van & box of ammo / weapon. Extremely protective of her car and goes berserk when it is damaged. Tends to travel with at least 4-10 grenades in her pockets. Yes I know it's a mix of Rally and Minnie from Gunsmith Cats. That's what makes it so cool to me

- Monk roaming the world, kicking everything and challenging everyone to duel in order to be stronger and come back to her old monastery to kill everyone there. Very much a "the weak should fear the strong" creed type character. Has no education at all, only knows to kick things. A disaster at mundane receptions.

I have a character very similar to this, except his only goal in life is to test his strength, and punch anything he can get away with. Doors? monsters? cultists? you name it, he punches it, so long as it wouldn't get him arrested.

The funniest thing is i have 10 int and charisma, yet i still somehow became our face because i roleplay out interactions better than the rest of my, admittedly new, group. That and our rogue's a tiefling.
