I really like how the Kota militia basically seemed to be using a somewhat more detailed version of the armor Luke and Sarkli wore in Rogue Squadron's Defiance on Dantooine level, with security helmets of course.
Alexander Jenkins
KSE is best Kuat
Hunter Turner
You're just saying that because they make the A-Wing now.
Justin Perez
They make everything good
Josiah Barnes
Posted pretty late in last thread: here is my newly painted SC2-M Repulsor Tank for Imperial Assault.
Has anyone tried this in a skirmish list with General Sorin?
Kayden Turner
Anybody play with their Wave IX ships yet? Which do you find most effective? I have mine, just haven't been able to play with them.
Caleb Bell
Custom playmats?
Alexander Green
I only flew one game with Thane in the ARC. Loved every second of it. Thane w/ R2-D2 and paired with Biggs made my friend pretty annoyed. I'm very tempted to start using the ARC in most of my battles from now on because I just love the old thing.
Isaac Barnes
Wouldn't it make more sense to give R2 to Biggs since he's getting shot at more?
Liam Morgan
I had a character in EotE who was former GAR auxiliary and flew a patrol bomber variant of the ARC - he and his copilot and gunner had nothing to go home too after the war, and so bought a tramp freighter with their collective backpay and started a small shipping business with some other indie freighter captains.
I've always loved the ARC. I have a fondness for old things, past their prime, still going strong in a young mans galaxy.
Carter Foster
TIE/sf Quickdraw is best when you treat it more like Dengar- something that you can use to return fire when you get shot. Trying to do the tricky activation shooting stuff wastes a lot of points for something you're only going to get off 3 or 4 times at best (and 1 time at worst) and is also not super effective unless you're hunting other high PS aces.
Backdraft is excellent. 3 dice out of either arc, doesn't need extra stuff to be good, but can be great with some basic upgrades.
ARC-170 All these pilots get better when paired with someone for synergy. Shara Bey should be given a weapons engineer and a targeting astromech and then just left alone.
Nora Wexley is fun when equipped with Proton Torps and deadeye, and can actually find a use for R5-K6.
Thane is fun, but better if you give him things that provide more possible actions
Protectorate Starfighter Fenn Rau is the new Scum Soontir Fel. Unless you expect to kill whoever you're shooting in one go, try to arc dodge. Fearlessness is better on other, lower PS pilots. Push the limit is the better option here.
The lower PS dudes make for a great mindlink swarm, and one that is amazing at knife fighting due to their ability to clear stress and survive boosting in close with the title.
Shadowcaster Asajj Ventress is great. Stick the Latts Razi crew on her and stress whoever you think is going to shoot you. If they miss they stay stressed. If they are going to connect clear it for some evades. The speed and survivability makes it a great closer, although the damage output is a little lacking.
Ian Johnson
I've only played with the ARC so far, in two different flavors and both are awesome -
Norra with R5-P9, PTL, Kyle Katarn, Vectored Thrusters; She's just a big bitch of a gunship. Next time I'm going to try her with BB-8 & Engine Upgrade and see how that is.
Braylen with R3-A2 and either Gunner, Tail Gunner or Ezra as crew, I'm not settled on one particular yet but it's a hell of a stress bot that still packs a wallop.
The ARC is such a fun ship. It's got the kind of presence you normally get from a large-base ship. I think I'm borderline retarded because I want to try a Thane + Sabine setup.
Christian Davis
Alright guys, how do you do a Mandalorian character?
Colton Powell
I gave him R2-F2 instead since I had to work with what I own and I don't usually proxy anything. I wanted to boost Thane's survivability and it apparently worked since Thane was the last unit in play thanks to R2. In fact I took down my friend's FO squad mostly with the ARC and only lost because I flew Thane off the board (I told this story in a past thread). He had about 2 Hull and 1 Shield left iirc and there was only one TIE/fo left chasing him.
>Thane is fun, but better if you give him things that provide more possible actions How good would Experimental Interface be?
Landon Cox
The few really good mando characters I've seen in games have primarily had some other motivation, like revenge or building their own larger than life legend, that's been sprinkled on top with mandalorian warrior culture.
Christian Campbell
Ask someone else for KotOR era, because I don't know, and dislike KotOR Mando's (TotJ Mando's are cool though)
For Empire Era, you have three choices - if you want someone who tried to follow Jaster Mereel and the SuperCommando ideal - then you lost everything that was important, all you've got is family, your code, and the fact that the galaxy thinks your a thug. Doesn't matter though, because your mando, and thats all thats important. There is honorin being a mercenary, but every year it seems like there is fewer and fewer of you left, and sometimes you drink because the pain is too much. Harden up though, because the galaxy is hard.
Death Watch: traitors capitulated with the enemy and ruined your culture forever. Then some assholes tried to compromise and just became touchy-feely do-gooders. You were part of a warrior culture that made entire systems tremble with fear, and goddamnit, they will fear us again!
New Mandos: Post-WW2 Japan, easy.
And guess what, prepare for a shitstorm, because mandalorians are skub.
Nolan Rivera
i wouldn't put EI on thane. give him vector thrusters instead. What youbwant for than is upfrade sthat give him other actions he can perform, be it EPT, crew, astromechs or such give you mlre options when his ability triggers.
Hunter Green
>Nora Wexley is fun when equipped with Proton Torps and deadeye
Yo, what if I fly Norra with Deadeye & Protons alongside Shara with Weapons Engineer & M9-G3 when it comes out?
Kevin Foster
Live each day as if you were on a heavy metal album cover.
Wyatt Richardson
My argument was simply that clone troopers were almost just as victims of action movie tropes as stromtroopers. With the difference that Rebels (and some other sources) won't stop referencing how much the latter suck (due to said action movie tropes) in comparison to the former. FO stormtroopers are a similar case.
Evan Baker
I mean M9-G8. Shara locks the target and Norra, giving the option to use either to fire the torps and applying either a focus or a re-roll to the attack?
Hunter Sullivan
But he didn't. He didn't understand it so badly he got stabbed. He didn't understand it so well he got exiled. He honestly thinks fascism is a viable form of governance.
It's a common thing, these military commanders, being really shitty politicians. Give a man command of a bunch of like-minds who admire his skill and he thinks it applies universally.
Brandon Hughes
Pretty much, yeah.
Carter Ward
Been to three local shops and none had them in stock yet. Have two days off now though so may have to venture further out or something. Mostly an imperial player, but may pick up that sweet rebel tie fighter, and the Arc does look cool.
Elijah Thomas
We will ride eternal, shiny and beskar
Carson Roberts
He understood command and had a greater threat motivating him.
He did make mistakes however, like not pulling what Leia did with the Noghri, throwing Palpatine under the bus and claiming he had mislead Vader and the other imperials and then giving them real working machines.
If he'd done that? He'd have survived much better, even if she WAS the daughter of Vader.
Speaking of that how the hell did they know what Vader smelled like under his suit, did he even have the normal skin with sweat glands etc beneath it?
Camden Hughes
KotOR mandos, yeah, definitely
Sebastian Morgan
...
Samuel Allen
So I figure tou guys are best to ask: was picture related any good? I keep seeing it and the story sounds interesting.
Anthony Martinez
So when are we going to get more Bossk material, or did I miss something?
Levi Rogers
The posters are cool
Cameron Phillips
Yes! Claudia Grey's Star Wars books are the best of the best.
Isaac Scott
But did we book her for a trilogy of important shit? Nooooooooo.
Joshua Smith
Decent, but still doesn't really compare to the Thrawn Trilogy, Wraith Squadron, or RotS novelization.
Isaac Gray
>wraith squadron >not all the x-wing books
C'mon man.
Adam Lewis
Stackpole seems to have mixed reception in /swg/. Some people (including myself) love him for his superb dogfights, others criticize him for boring characters and a tendency to make protagonists think and act with their dicks (less pronounced with Corran, though).
Brody Hughes
>tendency to make protagonists think and act with their dicks
I can't think of a single one, honestly, other then Corran.
Isaiah Martin
Well I'll get the new Thrawn book when that comes out, no question there.
Good to know. Of the new stuff I've only read Tarkin thus far. Plan to grab Twilight Company at some point.
Evan Clark
IIRC, doesn't it happen a lot in his Battletech stuff?
Carter Smith
Oh.
I've never read anything other then the XWing novels, so I dont know.
Surprising really, because I am a battletech fan - but the only BT book I ever read was cringeworthy and terrible
Landon Perry
Stackpole has his ups and downs. I feel like the important thing is he seems on point with the OT, though obviously the OT was not a perfect 10/10 gem like some people treat it.
LFL should still grab him if he's not busy, having him write something with starfighters.
Gavin Jenkins
That would be cool, but apparently Wedge is in the hands of that awful idiot who wrote aftermath, and apparently is trying to make Wedge gay, or something.
Jaxon Bennett
I thought Wedge was in a cliche shitty romance with Nora?
Caleb Sullivan
Not gay. I think Wendig's just trying to hook him up with Norra or some other random nucanon female. It's weirdly and creepily written and nuwaifu a shit compared to Iella.
Samuel Carter
>Norra Wexley
Well I guess its better then some alternatives
Ryder Ross
aren't we all in a cliche shitty romance
Dylan King
True. It could have been worse. Wendig could have paired him with the T-70.
Jacob Scott
Better an X-Wing then making him fly something totally out of character, like an E-Wing
Nolan Davis
I still don't understand how the hell Wendig was picked to do this. His prior works look like mostly urban fantasy or cyberpunk type stuff, with a brief foray into works based on Spirit of the Century. Zahn at least was writing some space opera before he was brought in. Did he get picked because he has the right facial hair?
Unless you count my love for Incom's T-65B Multirole Starfighter, I'm not in any kind of romance right now. Let alone a shitty one.
Oliver Powell
Do Twi'leks have a Life Debt thing? I know more then wookiee do; Trandoshans and Gungans apparently have them, and though Twi'lek culture is unscrupulous I remember them having some kind of honor-based warrior guys in one X-Wing book.
Matthew Morales
hey, I made that.
Do you want the rest of the set?
Adam Bell
A couple threads back, someone was looking for the crew cards from the Shadow Caster.
Is said person still here? I have copies of IG-88D, Latts Razzi, and Ketsu Onyo to spare.
Jason Bell
Anyone?
Grayson Richardson
If Wendig's social media reactions are any indication, he probably bitched and wheedled and played the "muh tolerance" card until the publisher gave him the deal, just to shit him up.
>escaping a Star Destroyer infected with space zombie virus >upon reaching the shuttle in the hangar, we are attacked by giant space zombie alien thing >spend Destiny Point, declare "one of the TIE fighters is partially online" >jump in, shoot giant zombie with TIE weapons >first shot deals 90 damage
>tfw one-shotted the boss on first turn of combat
Christian Nelson
I had players in an AoR game pull the "destiny point for an operational TIE fighter" card.
>player party decides to hit an asteroid listening post\supply base while its still being setup >infiltrate by hijacking a construction shipment >get in, start shooting >empty hanger with every imperial that has a blaster showing up to shoot at the PC's >PC's take cover, everything fine, until stormies setup overlapping EWEB positions >EWEB's start chewing the cover to shreds >party hotshot spends a destiny point for a TIE being serviced in the hangar >proceeds to slag all the stormies while laughing maniacally
However, in his enthusiasm, he also slagged the turbolifts at the back of the hangar, which meant the players had to pull out some rappelling gear - some of the characters can't climb, so it turned into a fun little bump-in-the-road
Noah Wood
And now you get to paint and giant zombo kill marker on that TIE
Let me guess, rolled some threat on that attack, did he? I love how FFG's games do that dynamic shit. Lends the game some real star wars "Uh, I just shot the bridge controls to close the door" feel to the game.
Zachary Jackson
Oh, yeah. It could have ended disastrously. The roll was 3 green dice against 2 red, cuz Adversary. The GM was very clear that a Despair meant I would accidentally destroy our only way off the ship.
Dominic Cox
What's a good crew slot for Kath Scarlet?
Currently, I have Kath with VI, Engine Upgrade, and Inertial Dampeners, and leftover points for a crew.
I'm deciding between Recon Specialist and Dengar.
Which is better?
Wingmen are 2 Kihraxz, currently with Glitter and Crack.
Jordan Robinson
Tail gunner could boost her ability even further. Never shoot forward again!
Jaxon Allen
I don't own a Tail Gunner. Either way, Dengar would be more helpful against most, if not all, targets.
Ryan Howard
Meanwhile, in Battletech.... My relationship with guns and booze is just fine, thanks Not as a social institution like wooks do, but the warrior folks may feel honour-bound to do any number of things
Isaiah Carter
Please.
Parker Bailey
Which first, and in what format, PDF or image file?
I have-
- We Brake For Nobody - Mega Maid - The Galaxy Grill - Space Jam - Actually a galaxy
Ryder Perry
>security helmets "Gotta go fast hats!"
Brayden Young
Hey, my fiance just got me that book at a half-price.
Should I start drinking before, during, or after reading?
Matthew Clark
Wait a fucking second. Norra's ability is you may spend a target lock to add a focus result, Han(crew)'s ability is when attacking, if you have a target lock on the defender, you may spend it to turn all focus results to hits. Those two things don't work together, right? It has to be one or the other?
Christopher Johnson
No, you cannot spend the same target lock multiple times. You'd need something to let you take another target lock.
Parker Thomas
Yeah, I figured it would have to be worded more like "After you spend a target lock..."
Zachary Turner
From memory it was about a 2.5/5 at best Sort of this weird mix of guerrilla warfare, battle of Gettysburg and robots... which might sound cool, but it doesn't quite work.
Ethan Harris
Nobody? I heard this was the place for SW fluff. Is this a wargame-only general? Sorry if so.
Benjamin Stewart
The problem is that there's very little information on it, either for or against the existence of such non-Wookiee life debts. It's certainly possible for a Twi'lek to pledge a life of service to someone in exchange for some great boon or honor, but whether or not it holds as much cultural significance as a Wookiee life debt is a different matter.
Leo Jones
Okay, so it might exist and doesn't actively contradict anything? That means my character concept fits within the wiggle room given, that works.
Thank's a bunch user.
Aiden Adams
Like I said, it could go either way. There are some who would argue that it's fine because there's no proof against, but there are also others who might say it's not fine because there's no concrete precedent. Given how well-connected the galaxy is, and how worldly spacers tend to be, one could feasibly argue that he, as an individual, swore a life debt, rather than it being a Twi'lek cultural thing.
Maybe the individual Twi'lek thought that aspect of Wookiee culture was neat. Maybe he's a Wookieeaboo. Maybe he's just very serious about paying someone back for past good deeds.
Hudson Johnson
It's a she actually but I see what you mean. I'll think more on the concept and try to decide if it's cultural thing or just a personal thing for the purposes of the game, GM gave me leeway.
Gavin James
Even if the twi'lek warrior subculture doesn't have life debts proper, they do evidently consider properly repaying people for debts or favors and standing by what you've said you'd do very important, so, that fact combined with a knowledge of other cultures' could easily see someone swear what amounts to a proper Life Debt and be completely understood by any true twi'lek warrior, and the galaxy at large besides
Oliver Wood
That's what I figured. It's been a long time since I read those X-Wing books and I remember in one those Twi'lek guys being pretty proud warrior-like so it seemed to me that it fit the culture.
My character isn't really that sort of character (she's a Smuggler with the Scoundrel subtype), but I figured if it has a presence in the culture itself it might still be a known and accepted thing.
Henry Watson
Twi'lek warrior culture isn't very well defined, so pretty much whatever works for you could very well be true. Maybe they have Life Debts proper, maybe because they met wookiees and were 100% into that kind of thing. Maybe they don't have life debts per set, but they swear Blood Oaths and one of those could easily be equivalent to a Life Debt. Maybe they follow space pashtunwali. Maybe the character grew up in the wider galaxy and is basically space Ghost Dog. There's very little canon, so whatever you think is most interesting is what you should use
Nicholas Cruz
>Maybe they don't have life debts per set, but they swear Blood Oaths and one of those could easily be equivalent to a Life Debt.
That sounds pretty close actually, though vaguely more warrior-oath like. >pashtunwali No idea what that is but it sounds cool. By the name I want to say something to to with Afghanistan?
Lucas Watson
Yeah, it sounds like the afghan tribal honor codes, that, if asked for it by anyone, even an enemy, they are required to clothe, feed, and care for the person, even protect them from enemies, someone who asks them for aid.
Luis Martin
>By the name I want to say something to to with Afghanistan? Yes. It's essentially the rules by which the Pashtun people (well, at least the tough old-school country ones) live. Here's the wiki. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pashtunwali I occasionally try and follow about 1/16th of it, as is appropriate, but as a GM's resource, it's fucking great for any adventure as involves dealing with aliens. It isn't too unusual to point where folks get actually weirded out by it, but it's unusual enough to confuse players but good until they catch on
Elijah Cox
>she Just an FYI, but Twi'lek culture is traditionally shown to be pretty sexist. A "she" might have some difficulty being taken seriously as a warrior, though the new canon might change that too.
Logan Sanchez
That's pretty cool. It seems kinda appropriate for a space alien culture in a lot of ways somehow. Like a code between spacefarer's interested in trade and sharing culture and giving aid rather then being suspicious or paranoid.
Gavin Bennett
There are two movies that both have the pashtun code as a central theme
Lone Survivor, and The Beast of War
Tyler Brown
I knew that and I don't really mind; I know one chick who was into "automatic equality" settings but I've never been one of them (and honestly when it comes to that subject I can't even talk to her), and I actually kinda like stuff where my character can overcome that sort of adversity rather then just have it given to her because the universe is super fair and easy. I mean what's even the point of heroes if they don't have to overcome adversity and neither does anyone else? You wouldn't even need a hero at all.
But as I said, she's not precisely a warrior sort, though I guess Scoundrel's get the skill to shoot light blasters as part of their skill package.
Cameron Gutierrez
As nice as that code sounds there are quite a few downsides to other cultural features that help balance it out into a nice dark grey, so throwing some of those in could add versimilitude (ooooor get you kicked out for being creepy.) Like thinking the fucking of livestock will make TIE pilots look away while your buddies plant IEDs.
Nicholas Baker
Tailgunner would work with her.
Otherwise the old standby is K4 Security, since you tend to K-turn in front of people and slow-roll around. Dengar's not bad for a reverse Predator. And Gonk with Experimental Interface gives her some nice shield regen.
Isaac Bell
>Bantha Bomb
Caleb Brooks
>As nice as that code sounds there are quite a few downsides to other cultural features that help balance it out into a nice dark grey Certainly, very much so. That's what makes it so interesting and useful for GM stuff. >Like thinking the fucking of livestock will make TIE pilots look away while your buddies plant IEDs. That's surely a Pashtun bit of thinking, but it isn't pashtunwali per say. Incidentally, it reminds me of a funny story a guy who'd been over there told me once, but anyhow
Gabriel Howard
No tailgunner, as I don't own it.
I have access to every generic crew, and K4, Outlaw Tech, Dengar, Bossk, Boba, and Gonk.
Recon Spec (double focus each round) and Dengar (evade each round) seem to be the two best options.
Logan Garcia
Well, his main character literally becomes Khan of the wolves through dick magic.
Jace Murphy
>Like thinking the fucking of livestock will make TIE pilots look away while your buddies plant IEDs. I mean, that's not a bad theoretical call, distractions being an ancient military tactic, but it doesn't quite do so well in an environment where everyone's stood post and watched endless goat-fucking before, and therefore don't concentrate on it, but at least they tried
Jace Green
There's a children's book out.
Tyler Carter
It's not quite as bad as all that. Impetus to War is one that is legitimately awful. Also hated Sword and Dagger.
Daniel Lopez
Have Gungans more or less disappeared from Star Wars or what? I ask because it seems like you never see them or Naboo any more in any of the stuff they put out these days, which is a real shame, because Jar Jar aside, they were pretty interesting.
Oliver Lee
>gungans
Benjamin Harris
"We pull in money, recruits, just to combat the Empire. Rubbing our noses in bloody battlefield dirt. All for revenge."
