What's your go to dice set?

What's your go to dice set?

Q Workshop

Got these bad boys on a Kickstarter. Solid brass. God's own gift.

>brass dice
>pointy edges
Dat tabletop surface...

Usually one of the several Chessex sets I own. I switch up colors depending on character.
One white set, one black for GMing purposes, green sets for forestry/rangers, casters have most variety -fire, thunder, demonic-, red for murder machines, etc.

The only set I own is some standard Chessex polyhedral dice. They're some granite / earth tone with speckles and green numbers. Pic related seems to be the set I have.

Although I also have a few extra d6 of assorted colors since many d6 roles involve multiple dice.

amber dice only

These are some pretty basic dice but in about two days I should be getting a 55mm d20 from amazon that has the same color as these

Whatever I can find without rooting around in the pencil case I use as a dice bag for too long.

People still roll dice in 2016? Dice apps.

No cheating and no rolling the die off the table like a dipshit.

I have a tablet with a physics simulator for dice. Just tap the screen and it sends the dice fucking flying around and spinning like crazy. It's great.

>allowing phones at the game table

I hope you get crucified

I use gamescience dice. I don't know if the claims of them being 'more random' are true, but they're nice looking.

I stopped doing the "set" thing; now I just buy individual dice I like and keep them if they roll decently (but not too well; I am always leery about dice being favorably loaded and it making games too easy/unfun as a result). Traditionally dice hate me, so it's hard to find good ones. My bag has all different colors, though I'd be tempted to buy a set of plastics similar in color to these if they existed; I love amber as a stone. Transparent "onyx" would be cool too. Big fan of dark bronzes, browns, and burnt oranges/yellows in dice.

No class.

Oh - fixes for your problems: don't play with cheating assholes, and get a tray.
Bonus: If you insist on playing with cheating asssholes, put that tray on the middle of the table and have everyone roll in it out in the open.

For GM stuff, I love the color scheme on these. Really gets me into the mood to play antagonists and do horrible things to PCs.

Forgot my dice.

Still got dubs though

I used DnDice to roll stats for my two 5e characters, since I didn't have physical dice.
I don't have a group either, but oh well. At least I'll be prepared

i use a pink d4 and any time someone critically fails they take damage from it.

anyone know where i could get a dice set made from marble or granite. i fukin luv those rocks.

Like a real pro, are you looking into the next set of limited run that they do? I wanted the deer ant set but I missed my op. anyway, I have a beautiful d20 headed my way.

artisan dice for anyone curious

Simple and easy.

Gencon 2012 45th Anniversary Set. The ciel blue with gold pips doesn't sound like it should work but it does.

Can't wait for next year, though those 50th anniversary dice are going to be super hard to come by.

A tablet with dicebag that everyone on the table uses to roll. I use my phone for rolling "behind the screen"
Objectively the best method

>Chtulhu Dice

My rolls are cursed

Big ol fuckin' vat of red transparent casino dice. My group plays a d6 dice pool homebrew core in all of our settings (of the five of us three are all working on different game worlds/genres for the co-developed system) so it works great.

What companies make D20 that are larger than standard but bigger than the 55mm?
I used to have one that was like twice as large as the standard but gifted it to my bro when he moved and now I can't find D20s that size anywhere.

If you hate life, sure, objectively.
theres your (You), fuck off you mongoloid

Phones are a distraction, but I've often used tablets for references since I'm none to fond of lugging libraries around

One of the members of my group stops using his dice once they roll a 1, and while I normally start with these, I'll lend this set to him when he runs out of his own.

He's Resistance, so giving him the dice for a better faction amuses me.

I have a bunch of orange and black d10s
I call them my Halloween dice!

Hold up. Hold the phone. Stop the bus.

Why the fuck are there official dice for Ingress (aka Pokemon Go Public Beta)?

I just burn paper sheets I've written numbers on in blood and gaze into the flames to see what the roll is to be honest.

Original Bicycle dice from any toy store.

I hope you're playing on a plastic tabletop, brother.

Gotta be tossed in a felt tray or you risk damaging the tabletop and the dice

I don't want to ruin your day but those specifically are terribly unbalanced because of the way they are made, try to buy ones of higher quality or of single color.

Go suck up to the alien tyrants elsewhere, frog.

Mine are dedicated to The Architect, The Nine-Faced Father, The Hand of Chance.

Why sugar? That's gonna be hellish to clean up.

VACUUMS BABY
SUGAR AINT GOT SHIT ON MR HOOVER

I'm pretty fond of them.

I got a nice kind of metallic orange set for my birthday that I use a lot.

It's salt.

I have a set of chessex that I want to be sure about. How do I tell if they are weighted or seriously imbalanced or not?

Roll and record the results 1000-10000 times, depending on how many sides there are on the die.

And I was hoping that I could put them in water and see if one side floated upwards. Will try user.

You might try to roll them in salted water, I hear it gives better results

Grab bag of D10s
Just D10s
To keep track of which are mine I have 8 and 9 painted orange and 0 painted red on all of my dice to make them easier to use for WoD games, which I am ideally playing if I've got my dice out
Because fuck paying like, 10$ a die for official WW WoD D10s

They are true, but the differences on other, cheaper brands like Chessex aren't really enough to be a big deal.

Unless the die is worn out. Then it will have a clear and inexcusable bias towards a certain side.

Borealis d10s or those marbled ones

I'm really forgetful, so I keep these in this pouch on my keys. I've used them for more games than I'd like to admit.

The gray/bronze dice in the bottom.

Don't have one. Just have a small bag of random dice I grab shit out of whenever I need them.

Anyone try out PolyHero dice? I ordered some because I thought they were a cute idea but I am concerned about the balance of such strange shapes.

As a player, I have a set of Green/Red Chessex dice mixed with a couple random D6s from somewhere. They're solid, though I'm convinced my D20 rolls more nat 20s than most D20s should.

As a DM, I have a set of black/silver dice. The D20 tends to roll a bit low, but everything else rolls fairly high.

I also have one large red D20 that I hand out around the table as the "Inspiration Dice". When a character roleplays well, such as making sacrifices based upon their character's flaws, I hand it out. They can use it to re-roll any roll they make, not restricted to just D20 rolls. They can also hand it out and allow another player to use it immediately if they rolled poorly. It's size helps players remember that they have it, it also goes away after that session, so people don't horde it forever.

My go to is hilariously, a set of old chessex dice I have. They're a deep red with some black and gold speckling, and in spite of the brand, have some of the most even and fair rolling that I've had.

They aren't the most fancy dice in the world, but they've treated me right over the past decade or so that I've had them.

I have a wooden set that an middle aged dude I used to work with gave me when he heard me talking about dnd. Said he made them for his son but his son moved out without taking them, felt pretty bad

I like antiques.

What do you do with all this crap? Specially the metallic discs

Poker Chips & washers are used to track things like hp/expendable resources. The game I'm in only has one pool of such things.

Cards are for generating loot, based off of a table I'd made.

Also washers go into making tokens.

I only keep a metal set for the explicit purpose of dinging the shit out of everybody's table. But, really, that's the only set I ever bought for myself and I've been meaning to get a mat for them.

Or!
Gotta roll in a nice roll box because DECORUM you mean!

Fuck off back to /v/ with your (you)s
Ironic that you call me the mongoloid when you're the one still using real dice, complaining about skewed rolls and how "unfair" certain dice are.

every chance to post the dice color wheel is a good chance

i think someone here pointed out that they're chessex? man i don't even need most of these, i just wanted to have a bunch of cute dice

now i gotta get some more black d6s

I checked four sets of dice in salt water to see if they rolled okay

Two sets (one individually picked dice, the other a set) was fine

However the D10 (orange in picture) from the individually picked set now has around,
10+ little split hair cracks around each number (not really visible with my camera, I tried)
And I'm pretty sure they weren't there before the salt water check

Should I just throw it away and get a new D10?

The other two sets of Chessex just sink to the bottom without floating,
Every time the D20's landed in the salt it would be 20 face up so I just set them aside for now

As for OP's question my go to set is set 1 (pictured) which is also my first set
>Set 1 solid/translucent, individually picked
>Set 2 translucent, aqua blue

The ones I think are broken
>Set 3 solid, bone color with black numbers
>Set 4 solid, pink with white numbers

>still using opaque Chessex after their horrible imbalance has been proven time and time again

Pic related, if anyone cares.

where can i get some higher quality dice everyone just seems to use fucking chessex or gamescience

Don't waste your money on fancy dice. Get gamescience, they're not as skewed as other brands.

People who care about fancy dice are the same kind of people who spend money on cosmetics in video games.

Pic related was my first set. My first character was an inventor, so I got some to fit his theme.

They're kind of a pain to read if they roll all the way across the table, but I like them anyway.

gotcha, thank you.

[I buy in game vanity items too. fite me.]/spoiler]

Does anyone else like to buy a set of dice that fits the feel of a character you're playing?

I use pic related for a current warlock/paladin.

I've got a set of purple/black dice I use for a Bard.

Would love to have this set.

do you guys know if seethru dice are optimal once the dice starts having many faces. for instance say d8 or d10 and up being seethru so the sides are harder to view clearly and only the top is clear? trying to work out whats the best "finish" and possibly color for dice .I went with purple seethru d10s for gates of antaries I prefer flat colors for all my other dice but ive started to care about color and contrast more as I'm dyslexic and eyes are getting old too. I use yellow with red dot d6s in a GW dicecube for 40k *just because gw never did yellow dice cubes and yellow is gw color. ive tried the GW app and don't mind red dice on a green background in that that looks ok ill prob use that for larger rolls. as all my other colored d6 are in a box for mobile frame zero that uses dice color as a mechanic which is prob lots of "easy to play" new kid games might do. terminator for example does this too. but yer for more of you hardcores do you think past a set number of faces its worth having "gem or clear" dice to make the faces that aren't the top one more abstracted and harder to read or for readability you think staying flat color non seethru is best? hm.

I don't really have go-to dice. I tend to switch them around based on the theme of my character.

I use chessex because I really love frosted dice.

I bought some D20's a while back from a bargain bin that looked NICE. We're talking gamescience quality, sharp edges, very carefully-etched numbers. This deep, transparent cherry red. I was going to ink the numbers myself until

It turns out they're D20's, but they have 1-10 printed twice rather than 1-20.

Perfect for a roll-under system

Ironic that YOU told him to fuck off to /v/ when you're advocating what is, essentially, an electronic version of Veeky Forums

I have a fuckload from when I kept buying new sets for no reason with my allowance as a kid. Did balance tests recently, most of my D20's roll low, putting my whole history of games in doubt.

Not sure where to get ones that are more likely to be balanced correctly

the old set that came with my 3.5 player's kit that I bought back in 2009

They're fucking sweet

Some day, some day I will win the lottery and graduate from pleb dice to artisan dice. flying from my hands will be mammoth ivory, gator jaw bone, amber, jet, titanium, and a fuckload of carbon fiber d6s for shadowrun.

>Cards are for generating loot, based off of a table I'd made.
Mind sharing? sounds interesting

Find myself rolling these the most

I told him to fuck off to /v/ because he wrote (you)
It's the current meme to spout (you) at opinions that go against the hivemind over there.

Also, not everything is entirely electronic. We still use paper sheets and laminated grid paper. I just like that none of my players can cheat rolls anymore, and it's also true random as a bonus.

I cared; thanks, I love orange

The problem there is that you did not kick anybody out the first time they cheated. Not worth throwing away having actual dice for such a trivial reason.

>d60

Holy fuck, what do you play that requires such wacky dice?

A gambling game based around darts

Sorry, I don't have it here at work.

That said, it's very vague—no specific treasures are listed. Basically you draw a card from each deck, blue card determines the type based on the suite from one of four different types: Wealth (Clubs), Lore (Diamonds), Supplies (Hearts), Equipment (Spades). The red card's suite determines the size of the general cache in a corresponding order. Essentially, the more different the suite of the red card is from the suite of the blue card, the smaller the cache.

I determine likeness based on color similarity, then round-top vs. pointed top. So, the furthest from Clubs is Diamonds, but Hearts is closer. Spades would be the closest to clubs, because they share a color, which trumps shape shenanigans.

Getting two of the same suite from each deck nets the largest size of cache. Sizes are subjective, and meant to be determined based on the location that the cache is encountered, but essentially goes as such:

Vast = A large room dedicated strictly to the cache
Large = Enough to fill half of a room dedicated to storage
Small = Enough that one or two people could carry reasonably.
Compact = A single item.

After that, values are determined. Adding the value of both cards (aces high), you can then compare the amount (4-28) against a table of boons/blessings. The lower the amount, the worse the cache. This can also decrease the size of the cache, or alternatively recommend that cursed items be involved. Drawing an ace from either deck generates a magic item (the potency of the magic item determined by the second card draw). Getting two of the same card from both decks generates a magic item with a potency comparable to double the value of both cards combined. Getting two of the same ace generates a unique artifact-level magic item. (The chance is 1/2704 to draw the same card from two decks—something like that, but drawing an ace is 1/13, meaning small magic items are fairly common, but artifact items are much more rare.)

I have the same set in gold

Damn thats a sharp d4

These are my "get in, losers, we're going roleplaying" dice.

Ink the second set a different color, make sure everyone knows which is 1-10 and which is 11-20. Old d20s were 0-9 twice.
