Halo Tabletops General

>Halo tabletops?

Yeah based on the video games. There are 2 Halo: Fleet Battles, 1:20,000 space battles game, which is currently being reworked and is slated to comeback on January and Halo: Ground Command, a 15mm wargame, which uses the Halo: Reach models. They are made by Spartan Games

>Spartan Games? Aren't those guys that constantly move from one new game to another one?

Yeah, thankfully MS/343 has then on a 3 year contract at least for ground command, which requires then to constantly pump out ground command models, with terrain, Ghosts variants, and Warthog variants already out, Pelicans shipping this week and Phantoms shipping in 3 weeks.

Scorpion with variants as well as wraiths with variants have also been announced for next month, more Elites variants like Ultras (which were already ready but were changed at last minute to be zealots instead), Jackals, and be variants of Hunters, as well as ODSTs (with a Jetpack variant coming out first), snipers (same deal with than the Ultras) and marines should soon follow.

Furthermore by February Halo wars 2 units have already been announced (the Jackrabbit from the beta) and the Banished have been confirmed to be a new third faction, with Prometheans also hinted at.

Even further beyond, the Scarab should be coming by July, and there is also a whole bunch of other units that are coming, like the SkyHawk, which are coming and we just don't know when.

In short, they seem to have a rather pack schedule.

>But I heard there are delays?

There were delays on the initial box set because of the unprecedented demand, and the Pelican (and by extension the Phantom) suffered delays because of last minute changes by MS, but box sets have been delivered and Pelicans ship this week, with Phantoms following 3 weeks later.

>Ok, but what sets it apart from other games?

Besides the fact that it is placed in the Halo universe? And that it is 15mm? Well there is this neat mechanic called reaction which allows you the chance to react to movements that you opponent makes as they happen, and it also works with fleet battles in that you can play out a boarding phase as mini game of ground command, and the models themselves are pretty detailed, it is also cheaper than WH40K

Anyways have anyone gotten the game yet?

Reminder to not trust Spartan Games.

>MS/343 has then on a 3 year contract at least for ground command
So expect all support to disappear the second the contract ends.

That still 3 years of very likely monthly updates, I mean look at the schedule of all the things that are confirmed to be coming out.

Plus if the game sells (which it does case in point the starter box and the Pelicans) why wouldn't SG renew the contract?

You mean like all the shit that was delayed because Spartan is comically understaffed?

They can confirm whatever they like, until you have the model in your hands, Spartan's words are meaningless.

The thing is because M$ has made them their bitch, Spartan will be forced to meet those deadlines or become pretty much extinct, plus they are hiring more people, just today they posted a position for community manager, and they had put positions for 3D modelers earlier this month, so it is bound to improve and in the mean time the ones that are likely to suffer are the fans of dystopian wars and SG other games

Has anyone played the ground game? Models look decent but do not know about the rules. Plus Spartan is shit.

Spartan games? Nah cunt.

>Come out with their "IP" the dystopian setting
>Barely any support for dystopian legions
>No support for dystopian legions
>No support for their space game

Not touching their games with a ten foot fucking pole.

You do realize "community manager" is another word for "anger management"?it's not production job, it's there to tell us to not be so angry at the many fuckups.

Aparently enough people quit earlier this year to disrupt the whole production schedule, never a good sign. The whole operation smells of mis-managing due to neil's inability to delegate.

Here is a small game played out:

youtu.be/6Jf0oxUJNi4

>cheeper
>starter at £65.00
nah

I mean the starter for WH40K is like what? Yes it is £15 more but more but you get 31 infantry bases and 5 vehicles

40k is also 28mm not 15mm.

I don't really care about WH, I was just looking to start a new game, but I'll stick to Flames of War, way cheaper than this and I actually know the tanks, the only halos I played was the first one and the second one.

Friend, I love Dystopian Wars. I've followed Spartan's cavalcade of incompetence since the CoA were the newest faction in DW.

Spartan and this Halo game will fail. You know why? Look at this thread. Spartan has a reputation, and that rep is terrible. They're not GW, they can't get by on being the biggest game in town. Because the general opinion on them is so astoundingly negative, the Halo game was doomed from the start- the only discussion that happens is 'wow, how shit is spartan'. The game has no chance to get a long term playerbase, because anyone looking at the game is warned off by anyone who has even heard of Spartan in passing. Hell, Spartan is in a catch-22 now- the more they let their games wither, the more hostile the community will be towards them. If they try to support them all, they'll be overstretched. They've already made Dystopian Legions mail order only.

Don't try to defend it. Buy your models if you want, paint them up all nice. But accept that Spartan is shit and move on.

The difference between Dystopian wars and Halo is that spartan games is dealing with M$ and their franchise, look at what happened when the starter they took people away from their other games to help the Halo team, not only that but the other complain is about how spartan games doesn't support their other games, yet we know they are 3 year contract with M$ in that they have to continually support the game, and we know that they have at the very least until July of next year (and likely for the whole 3 year duration) a monthly release schedule for the game.

Will it fail? No, considering that if it falls there won't be spartan games left.

Doesn't matter what the contract says or how much support they have to give it. Just look at the response the game has gotten. They can make whatever they like, but it's a moot point when the response it "Spartan? No thanks."

>there won't be spartan games left.
That sound like it very much could happen, then.

>M$ support their games
Is like you know nothing about haloclix

That was back during the bungie era, who were notorious for not liking anybody come close to Halo, case in point how they treated the writers of the books and tended to ignore what they wrote.

Times change look at the amount of books that have been coming out, or the amount of support halo 5 receives, or the fact that halo wars 2 has already been
to have story DLCs, in short yeah they tend to support the games (unless your name is MCC)

Is SG shit? Yeah
Are they suicidal? No

Also 2 or 3 people on Veeky Forums are hardly representative of the amount of the general reaction.

...

It's the silence that's most damning. No-one is discussing the game. It's all negative.

*Shrugs* the previous threads from a few months back were rather active for a game that hadn't come out yet and very positive, this has really been the one thread were like 3 fans of the dystopian games are being rather negative

I didn't grab Ground Command, but I do have Fleet Battles. Can't fucking find anybody to play it with, though, so I've just got a 100 dollar box gathering dust.

How big is your local shop? And what's the reaction been?

...

...

So I'm incredibly interested in playing this, anyone have any tips on getting others to? I'm pretty much the only person I know that enjoys halo and tabletop games

>Oh cool a halo wargame!
>Oh spartan games..

Not giving my money to them only to have the support die off.

Thought dystopian legions was cool. Now look at that shit? No coverage, no new releases, no new rules.

No thanks.

Demo it at your local and become a vanguard that way you get sneak peeks at the stuff that's coming out

Samefag?

...

Yeah that's my problem. An ODST army is so tempting, the Sundevil looks amazing and they are not using 343i's rubbish designs.

But I live in a small town and finding opponents would be impossible.

Speaking about ODSTs this what the 343 liason had to say about them today:

>The jump pack ODST are seen in Halo: Reach, if people are wondering. The drop pod bubbas will be a separate unit. The concept is that at some point you can play a pure Helljumper army and not be a one trick pony, if you wish.

>Broadly speaking, the ODSTs are a rapid-deployment force. The drop pod assaults are certainly one of their core competencies, but other assets can also fit in their "airborne" tent. They strike fast and hard, but are limited in the sustain. We're working with Derek to ensure the details make them distinct in the tabletop and not just escorts for Spartans as seen in the mainline games (frex, consider the ODST shenanigans in Halo: The Flood).

I do like the models. If I got into it I would want to go Legeko heavy. Always loved those fuckers. Even if it is Spartan if I can get someone else willing to play I will prolly get at least the starter to have those models around.

Well, this it what the 343 liason that works with SG had to say about them last month:

>“Hunters are one of my favorite units, and we’ve already brainstormed the concept of a special force commander who will allow all-Hunter/Lekgolo armies.”
