Renegade Space Marine Chapter Creation

Hey Veeky Forums, not doing much so I decided to play around with the Creation Tables over at 1d4chan. I saw that there was a new table around and decided to give it a try to see if anything fun can be made with it.
> 1d4chan.org/wiki/Renegade_Space_Marine_Chapter_Creation_Table
So if your willing to pitch in, lets take the first table and roll a 1d100 to find out who were the Renegades Progenitor.

1-30 Ultramarines
31-45 Blood Angels
46–55 Dark Angels
56-60 Traitor Legion
61-68 Imperial Fists
69-78 Reroll, choose a successor from that chapter, or choose unknown
79-86 White Scars
87–94 Raven Guard
95-98 Iron Hands
99 Space Wolves
100 Salamanders

Rolled 19 (1d100)

aw, not fucking ultramarines.

>19 Ultramarines
Came from the Smurfs eh? Must have been tired of following the Codex and all the ward shit.
Now I know you guys don't like the Ultrasmurfs so I'll let you reroll if you want to.

Rolled 85 (1d100)

i'll do it one more time. Whatever it is, we go from there.

Aw yeah, white scars, bitches

>85 White Scars
Well alright, split off from the crazy bikers. That's a good start.
Perhaps we were even crazier bikers then the Scars.
Alright now, at what time was the Chapter founded? Roll a 1d100.

Rolled 42 (1d100)

>42 37th Millennium
Right after the Cursed Founding, lucky us or unlucky if you guys wanted a cursed chapter.
Anyways, what exactly caused our Imperial Exodus? Roll another 1d100.

Rolled 6 (1d100)

>6 Altruistic Downfall: They came to blows with the Imperial Inquisition for actions undermining their authority to aid other fellow Imperials, resulting in the excommunication of the chapter.
We messed with the big scary =I= and got burned for it. So this might suggest that our guys we're tired of the Inquisition using normal dudes as cannon fodder.
Now lets see how good or bad our Geneseed is, roll a 1d20 now.

Rolled 17 (1d20)

or, we could have disagreed with them. They chose to break a cordon for a world meant for exterminatus in order to save some people.

>17 Significant Mutation
Uh oh, looks like we got some trouble with the genes.
So what mutation do we have? Roll a 1d10.

Rolled 3 (1d10)

sorry, got to go for a few hours. I'll be back though.

>or, we could have disagreed with them.
That in itself is just as likely to get us excommunicated.
>They chose to break a cordon for a world meant for exterminatus in order to save some people.
Possibly, depends on how our guys will be shaped with the next rolls.
>3 Mutated Catalepsean Node
Like the Emperor's Nightmares, our guys pass the hell out or something. That's gotta hurt when passing out on your bike.
Welp, besides the mutation, what is the Chapter's Flaw? Roll a 1d10.

Rolled 7 (1d10)

This seems kind of boring. Reroll?

>7 Eye to Eye - The Chapter hates any method of warfare other than running up to the enemy and punching them.
Our guys NEED to puch those guys in the face ASAP, fitting for a Scar offshoot.
>This seems kind of boring. Reroll?
Yea, if you guys want we can do a reroll. Go ahead and try it.

If not, go ahead and roll a 1d100 to see who our figure of legend was.

Rolled 1 (1d10)

>Yea, if you guys want we can do a reroll. Go ahead and try it.

>1 Hyper-stimulated Omophagea - Eat the enemy!
Oh shit, our dudes gotta make a quick stop for meal time after the run over dudes. Mind the track dirt from the bikes.
Pretty bad ass, explains why they need to get so close in combat.

Rolled 77 (1d100)

Much better.

>77 Company Captain
Roll a 1d10 to determine which company.

Rolled 10 (1d10)

>10th company
Now, what was this dudes great deed(s) of legend exactly? Roll a 1d100.

>10th company initiate
>Chapter hero
Either he was and still is a badass or this is a Chapter of weaklings.

Oh, nevermind. Missed that it was the captain.

It could be that the chapter as more then 10 companies or they themselves differently.

Organize I mean, sorry for the grammer error.
Anyways, still need to roll a 1d100 for the Deed of Legend.

Rolled 75 (1d100)

>75 The figure led an action against an Eldar craftworld, boarding it and inflicting grievous casualties before withdrawing.
He and his Chapter are especially hated by the pernicious Eldar, for whom the event is still fresh and raw.
These guys must have eaten a LOT of tasty elf flesh while they were at it. Cool stuff, now on to the Home Sector, roll a 1d10 to find out where these guys live exactly.

Rolled 9 (1d10)

>9 Stable Space Hulk: These Marines were luck enough to happen on a stable Space Hulk adrift in the void, which they cleared out enough to set it up as their Operating Base.
Sweet, I'm sure these guys snack on the occasional Genestealer while their at it.
Now how do they rule over their home sector? Or or they adrift in the Space Hulk?
Roll a 1d10.

Rolled 7 (1d10)

>7 Raiding - "You see that ship up there? The Angel men stop by every once and a while to take all our shit, and kidnap our children."
Our guys show up in a big ass floating and raid the occasional world that's close enough. They must drop down to grab a bite to eat.
Now to the Combat doctrine, roll a 1d10 to find out how these guys fight exactly.

Rolled 6 (1d10)

>6 Feral Xenos - These Marines use savage xenos beasts as attack animals in combat, whether as mounts, aerial support, or hounds of war.
Awesome! Maybe these guys use Genestealers that they found on the space hulk or some other crazy Xeno beast.
Now roll a 1d100 to decide the chapter's operating procedure.

Rolled 17 (1d100)

>17 Rouge Military: Operates essentially like a loyal Space Marine Chapter, who chooses its world and its ideals. It answers what calls for help it chooses, fight where it pleases for reasons it deems worthy.
Still act like a chapter.
Tough part now, what are the chapters specialty restrictions? (units the chapter cannot field) Roll a 1d100.

Rolled 32 (1d100)

>Rouge Military
Is rouge one of our chapter colors?

Could be for all we know.
>32 Assault Marine
Damn, guess our guys rather no leave the Bike seat when chasing down the enemy.
Now this is gonna hurt, What equipment is the chapter missing ? Roll a 1d100.

Rolled 30 (1d100)

It's gonna be bikes, isn't it? The Scars took back all our fucking bikes.

>30 Powered and Chain Melee weaponry: Excludes all powered melee weaponry and chain weaponry. Note that this does not exclude melee weaponry as a whole.
Fuck, Papa Scars took back our all cool chainswords! Guess we gotta tear dudes open with our bare hands then.
Perhaps rolling for Special equipment will get us something to make up for it. Roll a 1d100.

Rolled 39 (1d100)

>39 Crudely Crafted Weaponry: Specialty weaponry is crafted in a rudimentary and crass fashion, not unlike orkish dakka. What these weapons lack in refinement, they make up for with diversity and availability, providing a wide range of possibilities and being relatively inexpensive to produce.
We've been reduced to Ork levels of Chain weapons, damn you Papa Scars! Our guys must be pretty savage then to resort to this.
Now what's our Chater status? Do we have a lot of guys or very little guys?
Roll a 1d10 to find out.

Rolled 6 (1d10)

>6 Nominal: The Chapter can field ten full companies, each with ten squads. In all likelihood most every squad consist of ten brethren and some specialised appointments may be empty, but the Chapter is regarded as fully fit for battle.
We can still fill a full load of guys, that's good.
Now roll a 1d100 for this chapter's Goals/Motivations.

Rolled 11 (1d100)

We must have some pretty bad dudes to have not suffered any significant losses since our departure.

Eating all kinds of weird shit must have toughened up our guys.
>11 Recruiting: The renegades are intent on recruiting to bluster their ranks.
Looks like we want even more guys to eat people with!
Now Roll 1d100 twice to find out who are the Chapter's allies/enemies.

Rolled 65, 6 = 71 (2d100)

>65 Ally - Space Marine Chapter/leader
>6 - Fellow Rogue Astartes/Rogue Humans (I.E: Severan Dominate, Space Pirates)
So a loyal chapter likes us but another rogue chapter hates us. Sounds good.
Alright. that's all the tables now. Gimme a sec to collect everything and make a summery.

>White Scars
>37th Millennium
>Altruistic Downfall: They came to blows with the Imperial Inquisition for actions undermining their authority to aid other fellow Imperials, resulting in the excommunication of the chapter.
>Significant Mutation
>Hyper-stimulated Omophagea - Eat the enemy!
>Eye to Eye - The Chapter hates any method of warfare other than running up to the enemy and punching them.
>Company Captain: 10th company
>The figure led an action against an Eldar craftworld, boarding it and inflicting grievous casualties before withdrawing.
>Stable Space Hulk: These Marines were luck enough to happen on a stable Space Hulk adrift in the void, which they cleared out enough to set it up as their Operating Base.
>Raiding - "You see that ship up there? The Angel men stop by every once and a while to take all our shit, and kidnap our children."
>Feral Xenos - These Marines use savage xenos beasts as attack animals in combat, whether as mounts, aerial support, or hounds of war.

>Rouge Military: Operates essentially like a loyal Space Marine Chapter, who chooses its world and its ideals. It answers what calls for help it chooses, fight where it pleases for reasons it deems worthy.
>No Assault Marine
>No Powered and Chain Melee weaponry: Excludes all powered melee weaponry and chain weaponry. Note that this does not exclude melee weaponry as a whole
>Crudely Crafted Weaponry: Specialty weaponry is crafted in a rudimentary and crass fashion, not unlike orkish dakka. What these weapons lack in refinement, they make up for with diversity and availability, providing a wide range of possibilities and being relatively inexpensive to produce.

>Goal: Recruiting: The renegades are intent on recruiting to bluster their ranks.
Ally - Space Marine Chapter/leader
>Enemy- Fellow Rogue Astartes/Rogue Humans (I.E: Severan Dominate, Space Pirates)
So basically our guys are crazy White Scar Mongel descendants that are cannibals, love to fight up close with crude weapons and with their tamed Xeno beasts.
Pretty cool, I like the idea that they might ride some of these Xeno beasts too as war mounts.

Huh. You'd think that'd be reversed. I can see us maybe pissing off some other group of renegades out on the fringe, (we probably took their space hulk from them for ourselves) but what loyalist chapter would ally themselves with us? It's gotta be on the down-low or they must have balls of pure ceramite to not give a fuck what the Inquisition has to say about it

Perhaps we are still loyal to the god emporer but not the imperium, which they feel had been corrupted and strung up in a million ways by the insidious inquisition

Could be our guys dicided to "invite" the other renegades over for dinner. Eating a lot of their dudes caused them to hate us.
And the loyalist chapter could be our source of intel about general news and they might even supply us with some goodies occasionally.

We've a really loose definition of what does and doesn't count as corruption if we're open about our cannibalism. But again, 40k grimdark yadda yadda.
Probably someone we were already allies with before our excommuniation and thus feels they owe it to aide us

So we got a general idea for these guys, are there any real word cultures or something that we can base these guys off of?
And do they fight on bikes like the White Scars do or do they use some other form of transport?
>Probably someone we were already allies with before our excommuniation and thus feels they owe it to aide us
That works, these guys must be top teir bros to have our backs like this.

White Scars are space mongols, right? Maybe we could try basing around some off-shoot or another group of nomadic warriors?

And do we want to choose an existing chapter or make a new one to be buddies with? Would be more work, but still

Seems like a basing them off a Nomadic Warrior culture would work. These guys likely use the Spacehulk to move around space undetected by the greater Imperium.
>And do we want to choose an existing chapter or make a new one to be buddies with?
We could try coming up with a chapter, though we should finish this chapter first before we do.
If we use an existing chapter, then perhaps the White Scars will do? Maybe they have our backs.

Damn, we've rolled up a pretty cool idea, but it seems like nothing well become of this idea since we lack the number of people share ideas
Guess I could save the ideas and wait for a time to bring them up again.

What about basing them off the Huns? Or is there already a chapter for that?

>What about basing them off the Huns? Or is there already a chapter for that?
Don't know, but I like the idea. We can make our own Attila Chapter master.

>Significant Mutation
>Hyper-stimulated Omophagea - Eat the enemy!

I'm reminded of Three Kigndoms where Dong Zhou reveals when they find a traitor they eat his flesh ,drink his blood and sleep on his skin. Chapter could have something similar, that they eat an enemy who they deem worthy, believing they take part of their enemies strength into themselves (and considering Space Marines CAN learn by eating an enemy brain it would work).

As for aesthetics, Mongolians met Mad Max could be a good combo.

That sounds badass, their kinda like Big Game hunters then. Traveling around space, looking for Great Beasts and Tough dudes to eat so that they can take their strengths and become stronger.
They must have rules against eating anything tainted by chaos though, bad for the digestion after all.
>As for aesthetics, Mongolians met Mad Max could be a good combo.
Love it, add the Hun theme too and we're solid.
I love Mad Max so the idea that the chapter has to be resourceful like that while driving crazy suped up vehicles is cool.

>They must have rules against eating anything tainted by chaos though, bad for the digestion after all.

Pic related.

For the Feral Xenos could make it they use them as modern day wardogs, use them to sniff out explosives, smell out snipers etc. Maybe make it they managed to gun it through a mine field because their feral xenoes sniffed out and mapped the land mines for the marines.

>For the Feral Xenos could make it they use them as modern day wardogs, use them to sniff out explosives, smell out snipers etc. Maybe make it they managed to gun it through a mine field because their feral xenoes sniffed out and mapped the land mines for the marines.
I like it, makes it so that their Xeno Wardogs are useful for a lot of tasks.
We should figure out what kinda beasts these xenos are too, did Mongols or Huns use any kind of hunting dogs or something?
Maybe they use some kind of devolved form of Tyranid strain that they found on the hulk.

I'm seeing like some kind of blind multi-limbed tyranid like thing, evolved to survive in the sun bereft space hulk

>Maybe they use some kind of devolved form of Tyranid strain that they found on the hulk.
I'm not as up on my Tyranid lore as I could be. Wouldn't we need to contrive some way for them to be cut off from the rest of the Hive Mind for them to devolve?

Really like the idea, though

>not as up on my Tyranid lore as I could be.
It's happened before in stories, the Salamander stories for one.
>Wouldn't we need to contrive some way for them to be cut off from the rest of the Hive Mind for them to devolve?
We could say that they were lost in the warp or something.
We'll have to work on the idea.

Yeah, I was vaguely aware it was possible. I feel like we need something better than "lost in the warp" though. It's like the 40k equivalent of ancient Egyptian artifacts or secret Nazi science experiments.

What if someone (probably not this chapter) tried to invent a weapon that would permanently disrupt a Tyranid organism's connection to the Hive Mind? Surely it's been attempted at some point

I'm back!

Chapter name: Blades of Tenggar

Tenngar the name of our original homeworld? Chapter master? That company captain?

Homeworld

Idea for a name

Steel Raiders

eh, I'd only ever resort to the names tables when I'm not feeling creative enough to come up with a name

I'm back, sorry guys my net went out for awhile.
Name of the chapter huh? Sounds good but seeing as they don't have a home world it might not make much sense. They could have been a fleet based chapter from the beginning.
Still, nice thinking user.
>Steel Raiders
This could work, they do fit the raiding them.

Well, we could say that the majority of their initiates that started the chapter were recruited from the planet Tenngar, so they have a lot of fond memories of that place.

Call them the Raiders of Tenngar.or Tenngar Raiders

>Well, we could say that the majority of their initiates that started the chapter were recruited from the planet Tenngar, so they have a lot of fond memories of that place.
Oh I like this, and you know what, even though they are a chapter that lives within a spacehulk, they can still have a particular world they recruit from.
Or maybe the spacehulk has it's own human population too. Chapters do have Serfs after all.
>Call them the Raiders of Tenngar.or Tenngar Raiders
This works, Tenngar Raiders sounds good.

>>Altruistic Downfall: They came to blows with the Imperial Inquisition for actions undermining their authority to aid other fellow Imperials, resulting in the excommunication of the chapter.
Inquisition was cordoning off a world and preparing to exterminatus it so that an infectious daemonic influence wouldn't escape. Chapter decided to break cordon and rescue some civvies. Fortunately, no taint was brought out of the planet that time, but the big I felt this was a big enough fuck you to disown the chapter.

>Company Captain: 10th company
>The figure led an action against an Eldar craftworld, boarding it and inflicting grievous casualties before withdrawing.
How about we mix these? Eldar attacked a recruiting world of ours where 10th was located, gathering initiates. Captain Lei Zu spearheaded the defense that world and repulsed the Eldar Warhost.

>Raiding - "You see that ship up there? The Angel men stop by every once and a while to take all our shit, and kidnap our children."
>>Goal: Recruiting: The renegades are intent on recruiting to bluster their ranks.
>Ally - Space Marine Chapter/leader
>>Enemy- Fellow Rogue Astartes/Rogue Humans (I.E: Severan Dominate, Space Pirates)

We were friends with another chapter of space marines (I'm leaning towards another Scars descendant, but it could be anyone, really). We provide them goodies from the Space Hulk, they provide us with some intel and other things. They need something done in the shadows, we do it. We need something done legally, they do it.

The reason we're enemies of another Rogue Chapter is because we're the ones who are edging them off of their own turf. We've been raiding their recruiting worlds and hitting their bases, because unlike us, they've given into the allures of chaos and are complete assholes.

>Or maybe the spacehulk has it's own human population too. Chapters do have Serfs after all.
part of their raids is about populating the hulk so they can have a larger support base.

Both of these post have great ideas anons. Now this is fleshing things out.
> Eldar attacked a recruiting world of ours where 10th was located, gathering initiates. Captain Lei Zu spearheaded the defense that world and repulsed the Eldar Warhost.
Works for me, so the whole 10th company solo'd an entire Craftworld, pretty badass.
>

These works out, makes sense and adds some lee way with things we can play around with, like what resources the chapter has the Loyal chapter supply it with.
>part of their raids is about populating the hulk so they can have a larger support base.
Perfect, this makes sense, maybe they even take on survivors from raids or enslave some Xeno races, like Eldar or Tau.

>Works for me, so the whole 10th company solo'd an entire Craftworld, pretty badass.
well, not an entire craftworld, but just a sizeable warhost.

>Perfect, this makes sense, maybe they even take on survivors from raids or enslave some Xeno races, like Eldar or Tau.
The main point of the raid is to gather people, they've got enough old supplies on the hulk.

Not sure about enslaving xenos, but i guess if they ever raid a tau world, they'd get both humans and other aliens.

Come to think of it, yeah, we could have them be raiding Tau worlds both for people, tech, and as revenge for the Scars and Ravens at Damocles.

As for Eldar, they're too proud to be enslaved, and the chapter probably don't appreciate them attacking their recruiting world. Still, tenuous relation aside, trading favors and whatnot may not be out of the question.

So I've been looking into Nomadic cultures that possibly base the chapter on and along with the Huns, I found links to the Visigoths and Ostrogoths from general Goths culture.
Perhaps we could use this as the source to the chapters culture.
With the older members of the chapter being based off the Huns and the newer brothers being based off Goths culture that originates from the world the chapter primarily recruits from?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goths
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visigoths
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrogoths

sure.

>Not sure about enslaving xenos, but i guess if they ever raid a tau world, they'd get both humans and other aliens.
fair enough and this makes more sense. Take back humans that the Tau have converted, even by force.
So maybe the chapter doesn't enslave the Xeno races but would they still take them as cattle? The chapter are cannibals.
I have to do some more reserch on them but if you guys find anything that seems like a good idea then of course feel free to post it.

>So maybe the chapter doesn't enslave the Xeno races but would they still take them as cattle? The chapter are cannibals.
while having a xeno snack might be appetizing, the capture of Earth Caste Tau (and their subsequent survival) may prove beneficial if they are convinced to use their technosorcery to the benefit of the Chapter/Imperium.

That's a good idea, with how large the Space Hulk is, they would need a lot of capable hands to keep it intact and Genestealer/Ork free.
We should come up with a name for the hulk too to make it easier to talk about.

The Quantum of Solace.

Yes, I know it's not very original, but I like the sound of it.

>The Quantum of Solace.
Could work, we'll see if it catches on.

A James bond reference feels kind of out of place

we could call it Tenebrae Luctus

Or Luctus Tenebrae, I'm bad with Latin grammar

I'm trying to approximate "Mourning Shadow"

also, found some nice music to go with white scars, if anyone's interested:

youtube.com/watch?v=2ecCMhHF-D4

Nice, thanks for the music user.
So guys, does the chapter use bikes a lot like the parent chapter or do they use something diffrent?

we're already riding crazy ass xeno beasts. They're probably just as fast as those bikes we'd normally use.

If we lean towards Mongolian something like the Sky Father might work.

alternatively could go more towards the whole mechanical angle, stuff like the Engine Home, Motor Lord or the like. Bosozoku would be good as it literally means 'running out of control tribe'. Actually might be fun to incorporate the Japanese Bike gang themes into it instead of going too Mad Max.
