Let's say someone at White Wolf looks at the 2nd hand market and notes the paucity of copies of Hall of the Arcanum and how much they resell for. Sensing a chance to butt-frustrate scalpers, they decide to float a copy with Drivethrurpg. First, they need to check if the books are in the archive of DVD-ROMs or if they were one of the books that got put on a failed format (it was the 90's, there were shonky "zip-disk" clones that were guaranteed to last a century and karked it after 2 years). If it is on a disc, there's no guarantee the file format can be read, and they may have to source an ancient Macintosh off eBay to open and translate the files. If it's not on a disk, then they have to dig out the contact list and check with everyone who worked on the project to see if they have old proofs or drafts. If that doesn't work, they have to buy a 2nd or 3rd hand copy in good condition, unpick the binding and scan it perfectly page by page, doing a double pass to try and improve the graphic reproduction. Then comes a lengthy back-and-forth between WW, OPP, Drivethrurpg and the company they outsource printing to, comparing drafts and correcting OCR errors until they're happy with the result.

The entire thing is so fucking arduous that they simply cannot give a release timetable. Two books that start work at the same time can see reprint literally months apart.

Now take into account the number of projects both White Wolf and Onyx Path have in the pipeline, and you begin to see the scope of the problem.

What arcana would you need to do a fusion ala Dragonball?

Eh, off-hand I'd say "can't be done".

You'd need a heap of Spirit, Life and Prime I'd say. Although if you were going to go true DBZ style, both Mages would need to be at the same level of power for it to work right.

I have some ideas for a game setting and I am thinking of using the WoD system for it. But I've never done this kind of homebrew, and from what I've played and tried it seems that the old Werewolf system might be the best fitting, but that's aside the point.

Basically, has anyone done more or less overhaul homebrews using this system? How did it go, anything you wish you thought of from the start? Tips and tricks?

Sure, what are you planning to do? I'd suggest using the Chronicles of Darkness system, since that's the easiest to use out of the box. What you're actually trying to do will determine how well you can homebrew it without knowing anything about the system, though.

I mean, "I don't know anything about the system" generally makes homebrew of any kind difficult.

Well basically, my setting idea is a form of mash-up of Abara and Prototype. I've been playing old Werewolf and new Mage and I like bits and pieces of both systems (Werewolf having better freedom of your transformation but the new system having a more streamlined and concise system) so I'm not entirely sure what I'm gonna pick in the end but I'll get around to selecting that after thoroughly reading through the systems and the differences.

I'll probably use the newer system and tweak it, though.

You actually might want to look into Demon. Every Demon character can switch their form across one of several "Covers" (their Morality trait is based on their Cover, and all about keeping in persona), and they have a true form that's built from a pick-and-choose list of unique traits, each with a special ability.
