He wasn't a communist dictator, the US simply branded him that way while the Russians called him an imperialist. His entire life from the moment the revolution was on was a nightmare of walking a thin line of eggshells between the Soviet Union and USA, and neither ever liked him OR Cuba. He didn't lead a communist revolution, but he lead both militarists, intellectuals AND communists to victory under the banner of justice for Cuba. The US were very angry because they had spent years putting his predecessor in power, and because of this his alliance with the USSR was about survival. There were nowhere else to turn.

Cuba's relationship with Russia was always strained even from the beginning. In return for providing Cuba with just about anything, the Soviets had a steep price which Castro felt was simply a way of handing the leadership over to them piece by piece. After the missile crisis he felt that the Soviets had betrayed Cuba by backing down and signing an agreement with the US without ever consulting him despite the proposed missile base being on Cuban ground, and indeed it helped end the already struggling Cuban-Soviet alliance. As a result his people slowly started to suffer more and more from a lack of imported goods. Now both the east and west were effectively closed

For a man who genuinely cared about his people and country, and who went to jail and almost died three times for it, he was probably out of his wits about what to do for most of the time he was in office. His and Raul's dreams of expanding the revolution outside Cuba was also swiftly destroyed both by the Soviet Union and the US who both simultaneously worked against him. The biggest blow being Che Guevara getting killed, one of the pillars of the Cuban revolution.

He was sat between a rock and a hard place for 60+ years, with no options at all.

Then add to that early Soviet push for fucking HEAVY INDUSTRY on a fucking Carribbean isle and the country was on the knees.

Really, the sole fact the country is dependent from outside oil sources wholesale is enough to hurt anyone, regardless of any other factor. And Cuba has the issue of being fuck-huge for Carribbean standards, so their demand for goods is equally big.

Like Castro, they must dodge 500 assassins sent by the GM to kill him, proving that they are just that good and not to be fucked with.

Thus far, never. The only real campaign end I've ever reached ended with my character locked in a cell and left to rot with no way of escape. For one campaign that basically just went the route of "no more sessions; no canon ending" we agreed that my barbarian ate everyone and jumped off a cliff. As for now, I'm kinda just hoping that this most recent campaign actually sees an ending.
