Wrath of Magnus Ruins Everything Edition

For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk.

Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.

>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee that caused some sort of licensing conflict.

>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.

40k plot is advancing, believe it or not. How much headcanon do you now rely on over what is deemed official? Do you ever feel it necessary to impose it on others for smoothness of play?

what are some good campaign ideas for a roleplay oriented Black Crusade game that takes place outside of the vortex?

Im outfitting some Imperial Navy guys to work as minions on rogue trader. (pic related)

However im wondering what to give them as a close combat weapon. It can be anything up to scarce.

Any suggestions?

I kinda like the idea of them using their shotguns as clubs with the orgryn proof quality from OW hammer of the emperor... however some of them might need a better melee weapon.

The plot is advancing from a minute to midnight to a second to midnight. stuff will change but GW ain't gonna make the mistake of actually ending it a second time. I hope

Find a base of operations in the hive ventalation ducts system, all while looking for archaotech components in them to sell to fund their insurrection.

Then i suppose the objective is to gather leverage on nobles and the like to get favours, all the while concealing that you are chaos, then using said favours to turn others to your cause?

Give them those Arbites shotguns with the extendable shock baton attachment. I think it's in Hostile Acquisitions.

>play Necromunda the RPG
Actually that does sound like fun.

I have no idea what's changing and I don't care. The scope of our game is so small if Magnus is doing some shit somewhere it likely will be only a rumor that the PCs might hear.

Find some xenos, get buddy-buddy with them, then make them serve their uses.

Honestly, me and the other GMs in our group sat down a while back and hammered out what's true in "our" Calixis Sector and made a little google doc to guide us. We'd already headcanoned in some things, like expanding the role of the Sisters, re-affirming that the Deathwatch and the Grey Knights are Chambers Militant, Chaos Undivided, putting more Oldcron fluff in, etc.
I've been wanting to do a game set during the 13th Black Crusade, but it was going to be directly inspired by the original Eye of Terror campaign. I'll keep listening to rumors but I'm pretty fine with ignoring whatever happens at the end of the setting.

This.
None of the game settings are timelined anywhere near 999, so why exactly are people in THIS thread concerned?
Unless you are specifically running a 13th Black Crusade, it doesn't affect you.

Magnus:
>Destroyed Midgardia
>Ate the soul of Fenris
>Killed Egil Ironwolf
>Indirectly caused Fenris' population to be decimated
>Started another Black Crusade
>Caused the High Lords of Terra to release what is probably the Black Pariah
I'm sure it won't affect them.

Their very rare, the shock baton is an attachment which requires buying a seperate shock baton.

However i have talked to the GM and i am getting them shotguns with a built in fire selector. Gonna upgrade them with bolt shells modified, so that they can immediatly switch out in battle. But thats ranged weapons. I was asking about melee.

>Black Pariah

How exactly would you capture a Blank so powerful he kills non-psykers just by existing in their general direction? Just curious.

Sisters of silence have got him/her/apache chained up below terra in some kind of Applied Phlebotinous Cage.

Okay, so. I made an application to join a Only War game, and I'm quite certain I made a baddie but I'm really interested in this concept.

BUT! I want user to vet it for me, point out mistakes and such! I'm not the biggest nerd on Warhammer, and I generally know enough of the general info to know that Commissars are scary and Orks are a pain to kill.

Character and Other
CharacterName: Heva "Strange"
CharacterPhysicalDescription/Image: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/ce/04/5d/ce045d2d07a999edee4c58354bd04009.jpg (Don’t judge. xD) Standing at a meek 149 cm's in height, of an average build between toned and feminine. Underneath her helm, she has brown hair cut short, with Violet-coloured eyes and plump lips.
CharacterMentalDescription/Personality:
Raised by secret Slanneshi cultists, whom allegiances were discovered by Inquisitorial Agents, causes her to be in constant fear of the Commisars, in fear of them finding out of the Inquisitors Mercy. A complete social butterfly who prices beauty above prestige, which was further trained during her drilling, she’s sometimes a complete joke in the army she’s now assigned to. Yet, her skill with a gun can’t be denied, and if the Emperor (Or the local Commissar) demands it, she’ll ruin her makeup and get in the dirt. She also has a special anger/fear towards any Slanneshi Cultists and Demons, going into length to destroy them for their “Crimes”.

Part 2!

Equipment/Specialty: Weapon Specialist.
Relationships: Inquisition (Watched?)
Backstory:
Born on a Pleasure World, where feminine beauty was considered the highest prestige one could strife for, men and women alike aimed their best to heighten their femininity and remove any “taint of masculinity”. This, however, lead to a steady infestations of Slaanesh Cultists, who erode the concept of beauty overtime and steadily declined their culture… Heva was born during this time period, where makeup and alterations were common, her family having ‘forced’ their views on her (And having joined a Slaaneshi Cult), and was raised up to follow such views. However, the Emperors Inquisitors were not far behind, and during her late teens, her family was found corrupted and sentenced to death. Strangely enough, Heva was spared, on the condition that she was assigned to join the Planetary Defence Force, and was kept under close watch for several years before being shipped off to join the Imperial Army proper.

It certainly fucked MY game up. We're set in Segmentum Pacificus, in 999M41.

Magnus just fucked everything up for us.

What was the endgame of your setting? Don't tell me it was on Fenris. Or Midgardia.

Hey dudes, I always wondered something.

What are the insides of Hives like?

Do they have huge, cavernous spaces where smaller cities inside are located? Are they all halls and passageways like the vaults in Fallout or the apartment building in the new Judge Dredd movie.

In the name of the God-Emperor, enlighten me!!

Why not give them clubs/daggers/swords and other 'basic' close combat weapons?

With the occasional chainsword/shock maul

I imagine, considering they're called hives, they're probably pretty compact. Perhaps a little like that underground bunker in the hunger games? I imagine it would be quite utilitarian, perhaps minimal space for housing and business but enough to live and work in anyway. Maybe a reasonably big central area for entertainment/news/warnings on a big screen but otherwise quite claustrophobic, dim and tech backwards.

>Segmentum Pacificus
>not Obscura
>nowhere near where the Black Crusade is hot
If you are playing OW/DH, it's likely you have to deal with cultist uprisings.
There was a picture of an inner hive in the last thread.

Cadia is in Pacificus, isn't it? We're on Kasr Holn, one of the fortress worlds directly in the Cadian system. We were instructed to find some low-level cults, but now it seems things are getting much worse. I can only hope my GM decides to headcanon away GW's drivel, but knowing him, it's not gonna happen.

Pick one that is the best.

I dont want to pick a chainsword because i feel that might be pushing my luck with the GM.

My mind is flitting between,
- parrying dagger that is good quality
- sword to get balanced, also good quality
- combat shield because +3ap
- shotguns as clubs
- chainkinfe
Im just sure that someone on here has a better strategy that im not seeing.

user, it's in Obscura.
Pacificus has the worlds taken by Macharius.
Chainknives, user, especially if you are using the rules that npcs can RH. If not, go shield+truncheon.

try and find yourself. draw a line between there and fenris. and another one between fenris and terra. how big that shape is determines how fucked you are.

I imagine a hive would be somewhat like pic related, only several (thousand) times larger.

Electricity is inconsistent at best anywhere outside the upper hive. You can imagine much of the light probably comes illegally tapping into the main lines from important places (manufactorum, guard districts, etc). When the lights fail it will be completely, utterly, pitch black. Any veteran hiver will probably have their own backup light, but newcomers may not be so lucky.

Water, and shit, always flows down so imagine an atmosphere that is always somewhat moist and dank outside the elite areas. The Imperium doesn't care about quality plumbing, and making an infrastructure plan is doomed to fail in a hive.

Elaborate on this. Describe the smells of the hive, the constant dripping of water, the flickering lights, the cramped claustrophobic quarters.

Outside a few main throughfares, in a true hive there won't be streets, only corridors and passages in a bizarre illogical layout. To someone not born to it a deep hive is a maze to rival a space hulk.

I think you forgot something.

Shit, forgot my picture.

If you can find a pdf of the old Necromunda and Outlanders books (the old stuff, the only pdfs I've found of it is new stuff without most of the artwork) it shows quite a few bits of artwork of the Underhive.

Honestly it varies. Some areas are a crisscrossing nightmare of abandoned settlement structures with confined roofs and enclosed platforms. Other areas are huge, domed sections with large amounts of room.

Oh, my mistake. I was just going by what my GM said. According to 's map though, it's close enough to cause some confusion. The part that now scares me is the GM said, "don't worry, Cadia is very well defended, and the Space Wolves and Dark Angels are nearby, the cults shouldn't be too bad."

We've only got about 4000 xp, we're fucked.

You realise the Space Wolves and the Dark Angels almost killed each other because the changeling pretended to be Azrael and issued phony orders to get The Rock to fire on the SW and revealed the existence of the fallen to the entire imperium. I wouldn't say they're in a cooperative mood.

Monoknife with melee attachment for shotgun.

I need help.

One of my players has rolled up a min-maxed Fist devestator in deathwatch. Always rolls high Initaitive, always one shots things with his heavy bolter.

How do I curb him a bit/ a lot to make it a) a bit harder and b) a bit more fun for the rest of the party

Yeah. My Rogue Trader game WAS set in 999.M41 but then I decided that I wanted to give the players the whole galaxy to roam around in if they wanted, so I changed it after the first session to 500.M41 (though it's getting close to 501 right now) so that Obscura isn't fucked by the 13th, and Ryza isn't waging war for survival from Orkz and Gryphonne is still around.

>1 shot everything with a heavy bolter
I'm guessing you aren't using the errata?

Wait, what?

They vary from world to world, some are continent spanning cities, some are like Judge Dredd.

The "traditional" hive as imagined by 40k tends to be a huge mountain, a main "spire" with several lesser spires. Inside of which are vast cavernous spaces that make up streets lined with factories and apartment blocks. As the world outside is often hostile to life, the traditional hive is entirely enclosed.

And of course there's combinations of the above, and more.

>name
>no tripcode
>no picture
>picture linked in text
>xD
>height described as "meek"
>plump lips
>raised by a Slanneshi Cult
>total joke
>but an excellent shot
>"the highest prestige one could strife for"
>men and women alike aimed their best to heighten their femininity and remove any “taint of masculinity”
>"Strangely enough"

I can't tell if this is bait, magical realm, a troll, or all 3.

I'm laughing at you, user.

>He doesn't know
Read it and be enlightened. Especially the righteous fury part.

That's why I'm terrified. None of us expected the two chapters to really come to blows, let alone one get annihilated.

Wait a minute, he has to roll each shot individually?

Is that how I'm meant to read this?

Yeah, you have to reroll the test for the extra d10 of damage.
Also further down, pretty much every single weapon in the book got beat with the nerf bat.

They vary wildly. There's tight passages and massive vaulted areas. There's lakes, rivers, mushroom forests, roads, buildings, etc.

My group once found a massive desert made of crushed glass that was so bright you had to wear goggles at all time (not to mention getting glass dust in your eye).

Keep in mind most hives aren't really built so much as grown. There's ancient archeotech at the base of the hive that is constantly producing habs and other structures that pushes the entire hivecity outwards, resulting in things like hive quakes.

Normally the 'reroll' part doesn't apply due to deathwatch training, but would apply against anything non-xeno, but the big thing is the change from rerolling the entire weapon damage line to just a single d10.

Not entirely sure that map is accurate. I don't think Caliban is that close to the Eye. And Cadia is definitely closer.

Pic related

So his roll would be

Xd10 + Y where X is the degrees of success?

No. You just roll a single d10. How is this hard to comprehend.

>>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
>Because they were bought by Asmodee that caused some sort of licensing conflict.
>>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
>Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.
Oh fuck me, we can't have anything nice.

Why don't you tell me that Exalted 3e has been cancelled while you're at it.

Because a HB has 10 shots. Does he roll a d10 for every one of those shots or just his normal attack roll and a d10 for the other 9?

He rolls a d10 for the shot(s) that righteous furied and then successfully tested for.

I'd like to make a Rogue Trader game for my friends, but I'm worried I don't understand the universe well enough to present it believably, especially since some of them are 40k fans. Any recommended reading besides the game books?

It only takes a little push. The Dark Angels, and the imperium, live by secrecy. and now they will die for it.

Alright has anyone got any good in universe 40k jokes?

>the noble scion of an Uphive house is required to leave the Spire and into the Downhive to retrieve an ancient relic of his house
>he passes through the Wall via a secret tunnel to the Arbite Guard Barracks that defends the Primus Door
>the noble scion looks out across the square to the Primus Door and seas a roiling sea of humanity
>they're blood mad, screaming, and pushing desperately to get to the Primus Door to the Spire
>the only thing holding them is line of blood splattered Arbites with suppression shields and shock mauls madly clubbing back the rioters
>behind them is a second line of Arbites firing shell after shell of burning buckshot into the crowd anytime the line begins to falter
>there's blood, smoke, screaming, crying, and gunfire everywhere
>the noise is so loud the noble has to cover his ears
>he looks to a Judge on the wall beside him overseeing the massive riot
>"In the name of the Emperor! Is it always like this" the noble shouts over the din
>the Judge looks the scion up and down, takes a puff of his lho stick and says "No sir. You should see when Gamma shift gets off duty, that's when things get real bad."

Xenos, Malleus, and Hereticus are three books that I think capture 40K very well. There is a Rogue Trader in those books, though he is a minor character.

I think there are actual RT books out there, but I've never read any of them.

Thanks I'll definitely give them a read.

>Hey Victor
>Yeah Darius?
>You know i've been thinking
>About what, Darius?
>How is a Commisar like a disposable waste cloth?
>I don't know Darius, how is a Commisar like a disposable waste cloth?
>Always on your ass, and usually full of shit!
>AHAHAHA, that's a good o-BLAM BLAM

>Hey, What do you call a lasgun with a laser sight?
>I dunno. What do you call a lasgun with a laser sight?
>Twin-linked.

Brother Marcus

>Yes Brother?

How many Imperial Guard troopers does it take to change a light bulb?

>I do not know, brother. Please enlighten me

Just one. Basic training. Reloading a lasgun.

>GUFFAW

What do you call an Eldar that has stopped scheming?

Slaanesh's lunch.

Commissar?
>Yes, Trooper?
How many officers does it take to dig a trench?
>*Reaching for his bolt pistol*
One, sir, to shout 'troopers, dig me a trench.'
>[Commissarial Seal of Approval]

How does every joke about commissars start?

The trooper telling it looks over his shoulder.

...

What do you call it when you wave your hand in front of it?

Rapid fire.

>I had a Neophyte once. A plucky young lad, full of guts and fire, the kind we look for in a Black Templar.
>For his final test I hand him a sacred chainsword.
>"Go forth young Neophyte" I tell him "Come back by sundown and kill 100 foul xenos"
>He returned as the sun is setting head hanging low
>"I have failed you" he tells me "For I have only slain 95 of the Emperor's enemies"
>Now normally such a failure would be inexcusable, but even Lord Sigismund faltered in his time
>The next day I hand him the sacred chainsword
>"Go forth young Neophyte" I tell him "Come back by sundown and kill 100 foul xenos. Your weapon has been held by a hundred Brother Marines before you and even in death they have no failed. Let their strength be your strength"
>He returned again as the sun set and I knew before he spoke that he had failed once again
>"99, master" he said "the last fled before me before I could finish it"
>Normally I would purge such a Neophyte for back to back failures but...
>"When a sword fails, young brother" I tell him "We do not blame the sword, we blame the smith. I have failed in you in your training more than you have failed me. Tomorrow we shall go out and slay the enemies of the Emperor until they or we are no more!"
>The next day as the sun rose we stood before slavening horde of foul godless xenos
>I pressed the activation rune on my blessed chainsword and its machine spirit roared to life
>"To death or glory young one!" I exclaimed.
>He turned to me and with a puzzled look, his eyes on my sword
>"What, in the name of Terra, is that noise your blade is making?" he asked.

Shock mauls are hilarius fun melee weapons.

I asked this a few threads ago and never got a response.

In Deathwatch what's the best class for a Ravenwing Veteran?

Assault marine for agility or tactical marine for little of everything.

The segment is called PACIFICUS for a reason you dingdong

Against all odds. Chaos won a little in my rogue trader game. The astropath primarus, the only politico keeping the ship from civil war, is in a coma. And the war hero the entire ship looks up to committed suicide. Now like six different families are going to be at each other's throats due to the instability. They're on their way to Terra.

So let me get this straight.

>We've been keeping the single strongest Blank.

>Right fucking next to the single strongest psyker.

>Who needs to devour psykers to bolster his powers to not die.

>And if he comes back, we win.

My Imperium can't possibly be THAT FUCKING STUPID.

Why would the emperor be affected by such a thing? His power is divine, not psychic. All the miracles done by him over the past ten thousand years are proof of his divinity. To say otherwise is heresy.

That's...

Actually a good point. No matter how strong the warding, there's no way the Imperium has the ability to fully block out the null aura of the Black Pariah.

I'm gonna give he High Lords at least a bit of credit, and say while they might give the order to deploy it from Terra, the Black Pariah is likely not actually kept ON Terra. Maybe not even in the Sol system.

Because if they do keep it on Terra, we need to be asking ourselves some serious questions about which horse we've backed here.

The horse you backed is a dead one, loyalist dog!

I'm starting to see it as a horse with a prion infection.

Slow death, accompanied by insanity and lashing out, and its gonna take something approaching a miracle to turn it around.

But, as always, My Imperium, Right or Wrong.

Hey, at least it ain't Chaos.

I mean, it's one thing to be completely fuckstupid in your attempts to solve all the problems you're dealing with.

It's another thing entirely to become part of the problem consciously and actively make the situation worse for everyone because daddy didn't love you enough.

please kys

Warning: Noobfag asking noobfag questions.

Assembling the Tyranid swarm box set, and I want to ask a few questions before I but glue to plastic. With termagaunts, what is best weapon for them? Do I want to split between two different kinds or just do all of them the same kind of weapon? Does it matter what kind of gun I glue on or can I just say "That group has fleshborers, and that group as devourers"

Thanks in advance!

wrong thread newfag

here is the minis thread

Sup dudes,

I'm looking to get into a friend's 2e DH game so I made a few characters, just wondering if you could give your opinions on them.

1: Forge world Tech Priest sage
Role: gear modification/maintenance and all things tech related.
Once when tinkering with a cogitator, he accidentally forgot to say the prayers before turning it on. It powered up normally, and after a few experiments in secret, has since become disenchanted with the whole Machine God and spirit thing. But seeing as he knows full well what happens to hereteks, he keeps this a secret, performing all the rituals and prayers whilst people are around but going back to his own thing as soon as he's sure he's not being monitored. Enjoys working for the inquisitor as he doesn't have the lingering danger of being tossed into a plasma reactor hanging over his head.

Garden Role Sororitas Warrior
Role: Fire support/legitimacy for the party's actions.
Rather easy going and level headed (for a sister), She achieved average marks at the schola but managed to make it to the Ardent Shroud. During her time at the abbey, her Superiors felt something was off about her. Sure, she was diligent in her duties and was pious as any Sister, but there was a feeling that her faith was 'known' but not 'felt'. So when the inquisitor asked for some new acolytes, she was sent away, hoping that slaying a few heretics would give her a newfound perspective in life.

2edgyatheist4me

I can understand the Tech Priest as the whole atheiest, but I was hoping that the SoB kinda grows into her faith. You know, giving it a reason and all that. Believe me when I say edgy was not my intention. Just trying not to play a cookie cutter stereotype is all.

Maybe you should kludge another 20 ideas together, then create something without trying to avoid stereotypes.

Why not expand upon a stereotype? Actively trying to avoid such things can make characters feel off.

That's a fair point. Thanks. So instead of adding the athiest thing for the tech priest, I'll focus on the tech side and keep him as the armorer and tech support. Maybe a bit easy-going as he hasn't gone full robot yet (game's at 3000xp no influence increase)

Sounds good. I had an idea for a dashing rogue type that was a professional champion in noble's duels of honour, but I dunno if it'll fit with the group.

3k in addition to the chargen 1k or replacing the 1k?

3k in total, i think

That is more than enough to max out your tech-use with enough to spare for other things.

also to get trade armorer and dodge. always need dodge.

IIRC there's an actual Ravenwing alternate rank in one of the splats. Gives a free bike.

>>Black Pariah
where can I read more about the black pariah? what is actually going on, I seem to be out of the loop of the newest lore. What happened?

there's only been one, and it was made, not born, but you can read about him in the Nemesis novel.

Get the Holy Five, and you are alright.

...holy five?

Acrobatics
Athletics
Awareness
Dodge
Stealth
The five skills that any acolyte MUST HAVE TRAINED because they will, absolutely without doubt, save your life at some point, or your life will depend on making a roll based on one of those skills.
Others may disagree.
They are wrong. By 3k xp you should have all of them at trained, and can leave the ones alone you don't care for.

>mfw I don't have any of the Aptitudes (except "General")

Just fuck my shit up acolyte.

Stop being a minmax bitch.
It is, at max, 300xp to save your own ass in a variety of situations.
How do you not have any of the aptitudes for 5 different, varied skills?

that...actually makes sense. I'll need to retweak them.

Also in every rp I've been in, always have a knife stashed somewhere on your person. You never know when you need to shank a bitch.
