Thats it. I a total newfag in here that never played DnD or tabletop RP at all in his whole life. Now thats gonna change.
I have a roll20 account and I am singned in a campaing (but didnt play our first session yet)but I really want to feel what is like to play in real life with my friends.
I already have two friends (maybe three) that are interesed in playing (one of them already made a character) and I am totally willing to be DM. But there is one problem: if I homebrew a campaign with 0 experience I know it is totally going to suck.
So do you have any pdf with a easy-for-begginers campaign? Preferible a one shot or something that isnt that many sessions.

So one of my players is dealing with some life shit out of the game and its causing him to overreact to in character arguments between the PC's.

Is retconing events that happen in a session ever a good idea? Or should I leave events how they ended up despite knowing that OOC factors played a big part in some of the decision making that ended the last session?

Yeah I know. But I want thwm to have fun in his first time. I want to make sure it is fun for everyone

Lost Mines of Phandelwhaetever is a pretty common newbie campaign, maybe start there. PDF should be in the mega.

If you see this book, do NOT buy it. It's written by someone whose knowledge of 5e consists of a half-page crib sheet written in a mix of classic Greek and Rorschach tests.

All the feats are either
A) Meh (get one of the fighter fighting styles)
B) Wildly overpowered (+3 Channel Divinity per day)
C) Completely non-functional ("You don't die until you reach negative HP equal con + level" in a system where you don't die until you fail 3 death saves or are dealt your max HP worth of damage while already at 0 hp).

If you want to see them, pirate it. For the love of all that's holy, don't pay money for the damn thing.

just remember to tell your players that dnd is not a game to win or lose, it's a story to tell

As a fellow new DM I can vouch for this. Play your first few games with people you are comfortable with and are about as new as you.

They will have fun.

If you do want to have a small frame work to work with, I hate to go full circle, but watch Matt Colville's "Running the Game" series. Run his Goblins kidnapping the blacksmiths daughter thing that he describes in that video and if you want, change it up a smidge to make it more you. In my experience, new players wont get through more than 3 combats in a single session unless you have a whole lot of time.

I was actually planning on pulling some 4e feats up into 5e since 5e has a dearth of feats still compared to all of the other character options.

+3 channel divinity wouldn't be overpowered IMO, since the limits on abilities are too strict already. What does overpowered even mean in the context of a cooperative make believe game?

Making select characters who take certain things significantly more powerful than other characters who are built with otherwise sensible options. Especially when the power gap is big enough as to where the over powered character in question is either never challenged by what the GM throws at them or they are challenged by what the GM throws at them whereas everyone else just gets destroyed by it.

I think I broke my Sorc, threw a Flail Snail at the party, and he still tried to be Blasty McBlasterson, aster I had an NPC tell the party that Flail Snail shells are very valuable because of their magic reflective properties.

They should have some kind of process for dealing with feats that end up being feat taxes, like just rolling them into base classes.

I started a new campaign for my group. Two rogues and a monk. The rogues are really all about running a heist campaign, and the monk is a devout Buddhist who refuses to steal anything, but tags along because the rogues are planning to steal from the people who murdered his temple, and he might get some info from them.

I've wanted to run a heist campaign, it seems like a good way to let the that guys be edgy but at the same time not murder hobos since I'm assuming going in guns blazing to steal some high security shit will probably not go well.
