How would one go about starting a Deathwatch army? What's the best loadout for the veterans, depending on what you want them to do?
Ayden Turner
Shotguns and bolters/combi for non frag cannon dudes. Then just get lots of frag cannons
Matthew Williams
buy a couple start collecting boxes
Kevin Fisher
or the large box
Joseph Cruz
With the Agents of the Imperium book the smallest possible deathwatch army is a single kill team
Bentley Sanchez
>want to fall to chaos >cant decide on god im just gonna convert all my mantis warriors to chaos if i end up liking csm more than sm
Logan James
Go Word Bearers and worship them all.
Josiah Thompson
don't do it
chaos sucks
even with traitor legions they are still weaker than loyalist marines in all respects.
Bentley White
>even with traitor legions they are still weaker than loyalist marines in all respects.
user, it's not about how powerful they are on the table.
Juan Phillips
>What's the best loadout for the veterans, depending on what you want them to do? bolters for ap3 MEQ hunting
otherwise give them literally anything else. The frag cannon and heavy bolter are assault weapons. If kitting a squad for melee, don't be afraid of mixing weapons.
also do give your marines as much personalization as possible. They deserve it.
Caleb Parker
that means i gotta give up my space kamen riders and i dont want to do they actually ? i thought death guard and world eaters are pretty strong, even casually.
Aaron Cook
Pic related.
Anthony Jenkins
world eaters gives them furious charge so they can pretend to be blood angels. Berserkers still suck.
death guard gives them relentless which is awesome, but the best units already have relentless anyway. The real appeal of death guard is for the toughness modifiers.
black legion gets this really half backed deep strike spam formation which sounds better than it is
Inquisition could do the same thing as death guard with rad grenades for ages, but nobody cared until the CSM did it
Wyatt Davis
what about the rest of the traitors ?
Sebastian Perry
I knew those Mantis Warriors were no good traitor scum.
Daniel Cruz
Night Lords get stealth and fear but it rarely matters, even with -2 base, which is nice for Havoks. They also get a few nasty Prince builds.
Tyler Baker
alpha legion can infiltrate stuff. Potentially good.
night lords get raptors as a core choice in their decurion, and raptors count as troops in their cad if I recall. Not that raptors are good.
thousand sons are the same as wrath of magnus
don't remember the bonuses for the others but they weren't good
Nathan Morgan
They are weaker in terms of
- FMC access - Infiltrate - Daemon allies - Psyker allies - Point cost saving - Chaff units like spawn - Combi Terminators - Hordes
Probably some more. Are they worse than C:SM as an army? Yes. But they do have some unique stuff that at least provides a REASON for playing them.
Henry Anderson
we did nothing wrong so the new traitors get a resounding "its ok i guess" oh.......
Oliver Reyes
Hey look an Eldar player
Blake Green
I don't follow?
Christian Martinez
Everyone you disagree with plays Tau, Eldar or Grav Marines
Brayden Edwards
I like that you specified the type of marine because I play 100% (I mean literally, 100% every unit has a CCW assault) vanilla marines and get faggots bitching and moaning that I play vanilla marines like I play gravstar or grav BC or grav bikers or some shit on Veeky Forums.
Liam Green
Well I play blob guard with tank support, so far cry from an OP eldar player.
Anthony Young
Well, I think I may need to get a forgefiend for my night lords. I didn't realize how cool it would look with the lightning.
Nicholas Collins
What are your lists like?
Juan Edwards
>his chain lightning claw thingy looks like a shark heh i don't know what i expected
Adrian Gonzalez
It's a striking scheme for a big canvas models, and yeah the abundance of rims really help break it up so you dont just have big slabs of lightning sky.
Ryder Hill
Also, that's a great piece of brass
Jaxon White
Standard list is:
Command Squad, Vox, Lascannon, Chimera
2x5 Wyrdvane Psykers
2 Infantry platoon with 3 squads plus command, all with one heavy weapons squad (4 Autocannon, 4 Lascannon), 1 Vox per blob, 1 vox for command, Priest and Primaris Psyker for each blob of 30 guardsmen.
2 Devil Dogs
1x 2 Exterminators
2 LR Battle Tanks
Sometimes switch it up by swapping in Ogryn or Plasma Cannon Sentinels because I love em. Never end up doing much though.
Christian Bennett
Nice. Looks fun. How does it fair?
Sebastian Lewis
Does pretty well, though I'm not sure if that's to do with the list or the fact that most armies I get to play against are Orks.
William Fisher
Orkz and Guard are sort of in the same tier so that probably means it's a decent list.
Christian Parker
I'd put Orks on low and guard on mid, but okay.
Brayden Watson
I've seen that said a lot, but based on those ITC results and how Guard lose 95% of the time in battle reports, I can't help but feel Guard are low tier.
Angel Butler
Oh well. At least it matches the fluff.
Lincoln Butler
Keep in mind loads of people play guard, only the truly mad ro devoted take orks to tourneys.
Joseph Sanders
IG are low tier. People don't realize this because they haven't actually sat down and counted how many factions we have, how many new factions we have, how many of those new factions are better than IG (KDK, GSC, Knights), and how many old armies that were worse than IG became better than them since 5E (Eldar, Tau, vanilla marines, DA, Necrons, GK, Daemons, etc).
Even if IG didn't move at all, simply by sheer virtue of new additions and buffed old armies, IG got pushed to the bottom of the rung, hanging only above complete losers like Orks and Tyranids.
Brody Gomez
Tyranids can be powerful and they are nowhere near orks. Spamming flyrants can get you very far.
IG also has some powerful stuff. Mostly from FW. Vultures and Malcador Infernuses spring to mind. Both are sickenly good at what they do.
Hudson Murphy
So what would you say is weaker than Tyranids but stronger than Orks?
Malcadors are trash you're better off with the knight equivalent.
William Ramirez
Yes.
And Malcadors are trash except Infernus. Poisoned 2+ ap2 hellstorm 18" torrent template is enough to scary almost any army shitless. It has raw firepower and is major disrupting factor since you cant just ignore its massive 16" flamer template when you deploy your guys.
And it costs less than knight gallant.
Kevin Perez
>Poisoned 2+ ap2 hellstorm 18" torrent template is enough to scary almost any army shitless. What the fucking fuck is that bullshit?
Yeah no if someone tried to put that on a table against me I'd pack up and walk away.
Samuel White
SoB player here. IG are fun because my tree weapon options work wonderful against them.
Also Necrons, but I think it is because the local necron player sucks ass.
Nathaniel Edwards
Its bullshit, IG version. You hardly ever see it anywhere since the model is goofy and almost every single large rulespack bans Hellstorm weapons.
Luke Campbell
Leaks never ever?
Gavin Diaz
>every single large rulespack bans Hellstorm weapons
It's ok, I'll bring an Ullanor instead. I'm sure a 7" blast moving 72" across the board and hitting anything it touches automatically, including flyers and FMC, and having AP2, ID, Pinning, Armourebane, and Ignores Cover, isn't that bad. At least its strength depends on the model hit. Anything below MCs are hit at S5, MCs and vehicles at S8, Tanks at S10 and the rest get the D.
Noah Williams
that's a maulerfiend tho
Chase Johnson
No, because for some reason people care more about the plot than the game or hobby aspects.
Caring about fluff after 4th maybe 5th is like watching porn for the story.
Benjamin Ross
> Want to have a Space Marine chapter comprised of models from both 40k and 30k minis > Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts alongside Mk5 Dreadnoughts > MK1 Rhinos alongside MK2 Rhinos > Rogue Trader era weapons with modern infantry, etc
Is there any way to do this and explain it in lore that doesn't sound dumb as hell? The only thing I can think of is warp shenanigans but "part of the chapter got lost in the warp for 10,000 years and sooooooomehow didn't succumb to chaos :^)" sounds mary sue as fuck.
I know they're "my dudes" and I can do whatever but I'm hoping to find something that I like but also won't get a bunch of eyerolls in case anyone is curious about my guys when they're on the table.
Justin Sanders
Oh no... marine player have it hard. Poor thing.
Landon Smith
Ullanor also costs over 1000 points. Its not good when you count how much it costs.
Although mowing through a deathstar would be hilarious
Gavin Peterson
>Is there any way to do this and explain it in lore that doesn't sound dumb as hell? Explain what? chapters all use a motley mix of equipment from different eras of the imperium's history. The ones in standardized gear (like the new deathwatch with their mk8 suits) are the strange ones.
The only sort of problem is the clashing styles and sizes of the various models. The mk1 rhino is considerably smaller than the mk2, and the newer models are going to be noticeably more detailed.
Robert Cox
Red Scorpions and Minotaurs.
Zachary Campbell
Just dawned on me that there really were no plastic sisters of battle troops and all there was, was Celestine?
No hints of anything else in the line coming out over the next months.
Ethan Green
Newfag here. Thinking about making a Khorne dedicated army. Th question is: should I start a World Eater army, or would be better a KDK one?
Brandon Howard
February user. Holy fuck, we can have this bullshit again when we hit the time that was predicted.
Robert Stewart
I've heard a lot of good things about Chessex, should I order from them if I want fancy Tzeentch dice or something like that?
Camden Richardson
I want the Emporer to save me
John Powell
If you want a lot of Daemons in your force, KDK, if not, World Eaters.
Liam Campbell
Since Scions can take anything IG can from Forge world, what are some good FW units that would pair well with them?
Jordan Peterson
i like the model but i've passed over buying it twice now because it's so fucking good i feel like i'dd never be able to use it without feeling guilt
for a quick glimpse how good the standard malcador is in 30k see (keep in mind russes are more expensive in 30k but even then the malcador holds up against IG variants) all the malcador hulls , valdor included are better in 30k and with the exception of the malcador should have the ruleset directly imported into 40k imo without the usual 30k special rules (no flare shield , aux drive , expl adapt, armored ceramite, multilasers etc)
Noah Morris
Anyone here play genestealer cult? Played Space Hulk (boardgame) recently and a friend suggested we could start collecting the respective forces and play a campaign based of it.
Jason Brown
>Since Scions can take anything IG can from Forge world
source?
Juan Sullivan
Go for it, they're great. And you can have a Pseudo-Imperial Guard force while you're at it.
Colton Taylor
They cant. Scions =! Imperial Guard. They are Militarum Tempestus, totally different military organization.
Asher Sanchez
I have a genestealer cult. Great army, but it's high model count. So, I hope you like painting. On the plus side. They are some of the best models games workshop has ever released.
Ian Foster
Haven't played game yet but Veeky Forums says they are a higher tier army.
Grayson Butler
user Scion are inside the IG codex. The Scion codex if anything is a supplement.
Ethan Rogers
no, the scion codex is a codex of its own
you trade away all the IG stuff, in return you get amazing orders, new formations and non platoon obsec scions
Jackson Taylor
It is going to be fucking hilarious if they sell 5 girl squads in boxes. Not so bad since SoB only work as MSU, but I bet they are going to price them as box of 20 models
No FAQ update on it since then means they're allowed to take the same stuff.
Ayden Hernandez
> Playing as xenos scum
You have disgraced yourself before the Emperor.
They do get a pretty sweet truck though. Plus, as a bonus you get to use some IG vehicles as well.
Like all horde armies though, if you're new to the hobby they might not be the best solely because of the amount of stuff you'll have to buy and then paint to get up and running. If you're ok with that, than have fun and post pictures when your models are finished.
Brandon Thomas
Emails mean nothing. Our playgroup emailed same rules-question to FW but just worded differently.
We got 3 completely different answers.
Gavin Bell
Chaos No about being strong A faction whose fluff is that the immortal warriors of the emperor turn due to list for power Not Bout being powerful
Anthony Wilson
This is exactly why marine players on Veeky Forums are faggots. They act as if they're the only top tier codex that have non-waac options.
Daniel Morales
`In the meantime you can consider the Militarum Tempestus to be the same as the Astra Militarum/Imperial guard in terms of what Imperial Armour equipment and vehicles they have access to.`
>2014
unless they publish this email on the FW site it can be disregarded, see everytime you ask GW/FW about a rule clarification they have a good chance of just giving you the "forge your own narrative" response
that being said, it would be hilarious if they allowed this, tempestus is a strong codex already but lacks ignores cover, FW would solve that and much MUCH more
Colton Jenkins
Missed the point completely, user.
Nolan Jones
They are much better than their Blood angels opponents in the box. so have fun
Parker Russell
>want to try out some list compositions >BS crashes whenever I try to add a SM CAD Holy shit this program sucks so bad.
Joshua Butler
There's a list builder in the OP.
Henry Jackson
Formations are killing this game Prove me wrong >pro tip you can't
Evan Thomas
taxless formations are killing the game
Caleb Perry
But that's wrong because it's grav that's killing the game.
Some formations are bullshit and should be completely removed but most of them are fine, fun and fluffy.
Kevin Scott
Fun and fluffy?
Like what?
Henry Rodriguez
>BS is a messy piece of garbage that crashes all the time >online list builder has a ton of listing mistakes or misses units Life is hard.
David Perez
All that means is you need to know your codex.
Carson Ortiz
inb4 someone says use pen and paper
Logan Butler
...
Liam Parker
BS hasn't crashed for me since 2.05
Grayson Jackson
>the end times
End this meme.
Mason Thompson
Battle Demi-Company (not Gladius and its free transport bullshit, just the Demi-Company on its own) is pretty fluffy. Skyhammer is a great example, it just needs its retarded rules toned down.
The Farsight decurion is actually fun and fluffy, it just includes fucking stupid formations like Riptide Wing and HRC. Remove those and make Retaliation Cadre 0-1 and you have a cool way to play suit Tau. >inb4 that one's still broken because of suits and/or Tau
A lot of the Eldar formations are really cool but suffer from being naturally OP because they're in the Eldar codex.
Luke Lee
Id say the eldar core formations fluffyness suffer from ALL having farseer as the leader.
Wraith host and storm guardians sure, but leave some for the autarch, the actual warrior-generals
Evan James
The best formations are the ones that are 2-3 lesser used units with a combo/teamwork oriented buff.
The bad formations are the ones that are 1 or 2 types of units and have a mountain of bland benefits that are just raw power, like extra ballistic skill or free upgrades.
Elijah Foster
only if proven wrong
I really, really hope they don't kill 40k
Thomas Bennett
Yeah, RG has great ones where scouts act as actual spotters.
