Patriarchy

So I'm working on a villainous nation which is extremely misogynistic

What sort of factors could lead to a modern country which despises women, and views them as slaves and breeding stock?

In this country

>Women may not read or write
>Women cannot vote
>Women cannot enter temples but must crawl on all fours and wait outside
>Women must have a male relative chaperone or special permission to walk around in public
>Women caught walking alone may freely be taken as slaves and/or raped
>Women can be sold to other men
>The penalty for adultery real or perceived is death for the woman
>Women are forbidden from touching weapons

Honestly not sure if bait.

Definitely bait, but for it to be that bad it would have to be religion or something like it i.e radical Islam.

Or possibly even ingrained culture that's considered barbaric in our eyes, such as culture seen in Saudi Arabia.

Smells more like magical realm to me.

This isn't by Zizek but is something I heard in one of his lectures: Women are the proof that god doesn't exist and religion puts a big effort into keeping women hidden to perpetuate its ideology
Dunno if the thinghood of women is just taking that a step further

Just read the Gorean saga. You'll get some useful tips for your villainous nation as well as some interesting ideas for other elements of world building as well.

>What sort of factors could lead to a modern country which despises women, and views them as slaves and breeding stock?
If you're going to magical realm this hard, why are you even trying to justify it?
Your society is so fantastically brutal that it is just not realistic which is ok in a fantasy setting but don't pretend like its even close to being realistic.

>Women caught walking alone may freely be taken as slaves and/or raped
this law doesn't even make sense if woman are treated like slaves why would a slave owner allow others to steal his "property"

>no fgm

Tch.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that this is bait. Mostly because some of it is absurd. I seriously doubt that your players would stand for it, and that's coming from a guy who writes lore based on the belief that horrible things happening is the best way of defining a nation.

Let's review some of your points:
>Women may not read or write
Not necessary for slaves. If the society evolved from a high-mobility tribal society in a nasty unforgiving wilderness it could stand that the "protection" of women against the elements became a protection against all forms of independent thought or action.
>Women cannot vote
Very simple. Many countries in RPG settings have no voting at all. Since you're going modern day, it makes it strange that men can vote. Women's voting rights are relatively a new concept so it's not much of a stretch to deny them in setting.
>Women cannot enter temples but must crawl on all fours and wait outside
Not entering is good enough. Exclusion from religion is a pretty nasty fate.
>Women must have a male relative chaperone or special permission to walk around in public.
Might be needlessly complicated. Does this mean that women do no outdoor work? Who's tending to crops, constructing buildings, cleaning streets, etc? If you're trying to make a setting where all women are slaves it's awfully inconvenient if they need chaperones unless you plan on organizing work crews.
>Women caught walking alone may freely be taken as slaves and/or raped
Wouldn't raping someone else's property be a big breach of personal property laws?
>Women can be sold to other men
You're going for a slave society. Just cut the rest of the crap and make a modern slave society.
>Women are forbidden from touching weapons
Arming slaves is a bad idea. They tend to get good at what they do all day and take over.
>The penalty for adultery real or perceived is death for the woman
You're just talking about Islam, aren't you? Why am I even responding to this?

>extremely misogynistic
What you posted is paltry compared to what 'extreme of an extreme' demands.

>females and males are seperated at birth
>males are raised in Over-society
>females are raised in the Under-society
>Over-society is the cold but living world
>Under-society is the cruel slave world
>Overs have general rights, but emotions earn beatings, softness is weakness
>Unders are severe-level slaves, not even normally permitted within sight of the Overs
>Unders have no rights whatsoever, considered cattle, toys if ever in contact with Overs
>Unders never know choice, nor anything beyond their station and living squalor
>Unders get cycled through breeding stations, even granted as rewards for successful Overs
>Unders are not even aware of their own children, drugged out during birth
>Overs are the glorious soldiers and warriors but Unders are the disposable

Hmmmm.. You can use religion as medium of misogyny, that way the NPCs can say that it's their cultural right. Maybe women should be forced to wear something that symbolizes their objectivity. A leash is too obvious, maybe something like a head cover, etc.

From where I live the word misogyny can be translated as 'Silam', we could jumble it up for subtlety, how about 'Islam'. We could call the country that.

DAMN BOI! That's some good shit you got there.
Have a smug picture.

>What sort of factors

The game is FATAL.

Edgelord reply: a society that rose from the ashes of a feminist matriarchy.

Just take a few notes from Islam.

Not enough kierkegaard via anal sex metaphors

Assuming this isn't bait, I would look at ISIS or some of the more extreme Muslim nations and make modifications to fit your setting.

As I said, it isn't something he actually said but something he quoted in a lecture

any further elaboration as to women being proof god doesnt exist?

B8 thread, the punchline is that nearly everything on his list is common practice in Saudi Arabia.

This is actually good advice for an alternate take, but be prepared FOR THE ILLUSTRIOUS AND VIRILE PROSE OF GOR. Like, you can get nearly all the benefit just from a few screencaps of pages of the stuff. It's all about how women just want to be dominated and enslaved and can't resist the manly men of Gor who understand that and know how to keep a woman in her place. It's fetishy fapbait crap from an era where it was just barely good enough that it wasn't left to be circulated in the backs of fetish magazines or mimeographed and sent via postal mail to subscribers.

The society is a decendent culture of a culture that needed to send a large percentage of its men to war.

So the women were valued most of all for their ability to me give the men strong sons.

Religion baked up an explanation for why women weren't allowed to marry for choice but for providing their father with grandsons via a man of his choosing (how do you use a daughter to enhance your status when it's sons that are favored, use her to secure your ties to younger warriors and the sons of those warriors), and the successor culture took that explanation and used it as an excuse to reduce the status of women further still, and to justify the taking and forcible breeding of female captives from neighboring nations.

A slavery-based nation is founded by a rich noble that is spurned by his lady love and try to satisfy his lust on female slaves instead?

To ensure no women can ever reject him or his offspring again, he make women position in society lower than male slaves?

Not meaning to derail this thread's wonderful conversation, but that reminds me of a time I went over to my friend's BF house. Now, to preface this story, you can kinda say that I had a huge crush on my friend, and its not hard to see why: She was fucking adorable, and was a total weeb in the cutest way possible. She knit and sew clothing and costumes, and constantly had these pretty as hell wigs that she even wore to school. She was also a bit of a punk, although she was also quite fragile emotionally.

Her Boyfriend, at the time, was kinda like me, but a bit.. Dorkier? He was chubbier, and shorter than me, but he seemed alright otherwise. Even gave me cool MtG cards, and he was also into surreal art. He was however, a bit of a pussy at times, and It fucking pissed me off that he let assholes walk all over my friend. But, otherwise, he was okay, even if he had some Turbo autist friends that he hung around with. But hey, I was best friends with Mary Shelly's Frankenstein at the time as well. Either way, this was highschool, so I didnt give much of a shit.
That was until, I went over to his house for a party. And it wasnt much of a party, just bunch of friends hanging out.

Cont.

Anywho, his room was like a twevle year olds, and at first, I just fucking reveled in it. He was a pretty rich kid, but it was clear his family were a bit hoarderish. Not exactly terrible, but certainly messy. But, my god, it was like a middleschool nerds nirvana; Im talking shit like Bakugan, ps2, Yugioh, Bay Blades, Gundams. Most of it he just never bothered getting rid of, but me beinf the ironic piece of shit that I was, I just became mesmerized by the trash, and dug through it all.

It was when I was laughing my ass off at the Bakugan collection he had, when I noticed the book, laying in the bin. Picking it up, I was almost shocked when I noticed it was part of the Gor series. I thought maybe his father or some one had misplaced it, so I took it to him, and he just smiled and responded "How did that get in there? You know what, Ill just put it back." I sighed with relief, watching him head to the door to the hallway.

Only to stop at the closet instead.

>some guy read books that I decided was bad and also he is a total loser and also his girlfriend was my dream girl at the time even though he mistreated her
Yeah ok.
Maybe reading those books was a good idea for him

Islam?

Islam.

Also

>Patriarchy =/= muhsoggyknee

What exactly are you trying to imply with this story?

Prying open the closet door, time froze. As in, I just mentally stopped for a moment, as I had to process the fact that I was standing in the same room as some one who owned what seemed to be the entire fucking series, or at the horrifying least, a whole book shelf of Gor. Not wising to sperg out, and for the sake of civility, I simply asked him if they were his. And with a bit of pride, he said yes, and that he had read every. Single. One.

The rest of that party was fairly normal. Nobody really knew what Gor was, and I didnt bring it up again. Infact, all things considered, it went pretty well. I gave him some magic boosters, we swam in his pool. My crush even told us about her night in a gay bar as a 10 year old, and we all a bunch of laughs, and I rounded out that day by picking up Pan O starter set for infinity.

But to this day, I just dont look at the same. And I think he knows this. He's done a good job at kinda isolating him and his friends, and fof the rest of my time in highschool, his turbo autist friends would watch me. As in, look at me. As for my Crush, I gave up on that string and moved on, getting a few more actual dates in, before just post poning the whole relationship thing to college. Maybe my crush knew about that shit. Maybe she didnt. To this day, I dont know. But, I suppose at this point, would I want to know? Last time I heard anything about them was when my Frankenstein buddy made a whole youtube rant at them, which I think only split us farther.

If ine good thing came from it though, was that
All this shit almost made me guilt free for taking a Mishra's workshop out of his trash bag of old MtG cards he bought at garage sales. Almost.

I dunno. Its just the only thing that In my life that ever involved Gor.

A double edged one.

Pulls in by saying 'Patriarchy' which causes spergs to spasm and grab their bag of buzzwords because muh SJW boogeyman, but then keeps them by satisfying weird BDSM sexual fantasies under the guise of 'setting building'

...

Been a while since I heard this copypasta

>What is the Middle East?

Libtard

Tripple edged in fact. It aims at:
A) general gender politics bullshit mongrels
B) islam debates
C) cringe police (the kind of people who really never miss an opportunity how much mature they are than someone else in comparison)

It's covering a lot of basis.

It's fairly simple.

Many, many centuries ago, the country was ruled by a cabal of infernalists - the brides of a powerful archdevil or demon. Eventually, the common folk rose up and overthrew them.

Now, no-one ever trusts women. Ever. Every woman is a potential infernalist, and absolutely no risks can be taken.

b-but women are innocent creatures! They would never abuse any aboslute power! Ever!

never ever would they do that!

...

>Women are the *sniff* proof that god doesn't exist *fiddles* and religion puts a big effort *sniff* into keeping women hidden to perpetuate its ideology, and so forth and so forth

I presume the idea is that a loving god wouldn't burden mankind with such an utterly useless, dependent, vile and egocentric partner in reproduction that they simply cannot avoid unless they want to go extinct.

I think the most simple result would be that it's the result of an incredibly petty shut down of a famous political figure or group.

For instance, Perhaps a Queen sets up several tax reforms, the upper nobles don't like that and start a decades long propaganda spiel in revenge for their near destruction.

Another possible cause is that a famous figure or figures were just generally misogynistic or had those types of inclinations leak out into their works which were taken as cultural aspects (Like Abrahamic religions do).

Note that Mysogynistic cultures are sometimes not that bad. Sparta was incredibly hateful of women, but details of how it exercised that were ironically progressive (Women in Sparta could play sports because it was believed strong women made strong heirs)

...

>Winning
>Posts bimbo transformation porn

>Women may not read or write

This was done in parts of ancient china. Women created their own secret written language that was disguised as art.

Also, a lot of those laws will cause tensions in both nearby nations and with people who object to those standards, so there will also be oppressive laws applied to non-conforming men.

Ironically enough, that's from a commissioned image set of a bimbo being transformed into an intelligent businesswoman.

I don't remember right and since it wasn't Zizek I don't know the original authors intent.
The biggest argument will be the fact that women can give birth, Freud will argue that this trivializes the creation of life by a deity
The second thing is how feminity is contrarian to religious virtudes, for example a bitch manupulates men to get what she wants and offers sex in exchange for that, this is not sinful but is a tremendous attack to the virtudes religion demands from its followers.

We all know what it's from, it doesn't make posting it outside /aco/ any less stupid.

And bimbo transformation point doesn't have a pre-described direction. It just involves bimbos and transformation. So go fucking figure

If you think islam is a too obvious and/or politically incorrect, take inspiration from classic Athens. The city that would rather habe their women being captured and raped by persians than allowing them to leave the kitchen.

That was mostly Sparta, and it was because Athens deserved it.

>into an intelligent businesswoman

You mean a brainwashed tumblr-womyn studies slut

This.

OP clearly spent some time crafting his post; the least we can do is give him some bumps. How else is he going to receive validation in life?

>elaboration
This man is a post-structuralist, he can argue for anything from anything.

>Women cannot enter temples but must crawl on all fours and wait outside
Women are allowed into mosques
>Women caught walking alone may freely be taken as slaves and/or raped
they dont have slaves in middle east and violent rape is not allowed at least formally
>Women are forbidden from touching weapons
not true even in isis

some of these things are just ridiculous and even if there are modern relatively oppressive societies to act like any society has been this devoted to keeping women down is autistic and if put into a game would reek of magical realming

oh but i forgot muh women have been enslaved throughout all time and forever
nice shitpost feminist cunt

Almost all of these were enforced inj premodern societies.
>they dont have slaves in middle east and violent rape is not allowed at least formally
shitlib detected

If you wanna make it realistic, you gotta make it saccharine. You have to give all of these extensive and oppressive restrictions a faux-motive of "protecting women" or something else that's obviously a lie.
>"Oh obviously women need a male chaperone to be in public; they could not protect themselves otherwise!"
>"Women mustn't touch weapons because they can't use them properly; they will only hurt themselves and others."
>"Women must crawl in temples because it is forbidden to spill even a drop of blood in them, and the woman might spill menstrual blood if they stood upright."
>"It is not a problem is women are captured from the streets after sunset, for any woman out alone at such a time is most likely a criminal or a whore. They lack virtue, and are used to this."
Remember: just because they're villainous, doesn't mean that they're not internally consistent.

All that needs is the currently trendy egalitarian posturing to go out of fashion.
The rest will come naturally.

>What sort of factors could lead to a modern country which despises women, and views them as slaves and breeding stock?
A country born out revolt against the formerly misandrist regime.

You know, like reality.

Nah, culture is never justified by anything. For people who live in it, it's just the way things are, it's what means being a man or woman.

People tend to have empathy more often than not, and they enjoy being right. They're gonna at least _try_ to rationalize their culture, even if it's just paper-thin explanations.

>being this dumb
Birthrates in modern times are mostly determined by prosperity/development retard.

...

>muh materialism
Parallel reality pls
It's all about priorities.

...

I'm just playing devil's advocate, but are you really arguing that birthrate has nothing to do with sexual freedom and that Japan was incredibly prosperous/developed in 1949?

ISHYGDDT?

"Empathy" is a cultural variable, so not really.

>Cost of rising single kid is equal to income of a family
>HURRR STOP PRETENDING ITS ABOUT MONEY DURRR
Why /pol/ is always so fucking out of touch with reality?
The only way you can have big family in modern times is literally not giving fuck about your kids. At all.

>What is all-time classic post-war population bump
How new to this shit are you?

Levels of empathy are cultural. Presence or lack-thereof of it isn't.

...

Different user here, but according to that graph, 1949 was the year that Japan began to become more prosperous.

I don't know if you're just misunderstanding what's being said. In 1950, Japan's GDP started to rise, which is why is correct. Greater prosperity leads to declining birthrates.

>Cost of rising single kid is equal to income of a family
>What is interval
I'm not from /pol/, but I can tell you are not good with math.

>"Empathy" is a cultural variable, so not really.
>There are those evil cultures with no empathy and those piss-pants cultures of empaths
It's not working like this, you fucking mongoloid

The fuck intervals has to do with it, you stupid fuck?
You need to feed, dress, educate and take general care for your kid. It just happens to cost roughtly all the disposable income an average, middle-class family can have. All over the fucking developed, "first world" countries. And there is no way around it, unless either the state supports you (a la Swedish birthrate policies) OR you being a lousy parent, who don't mind having 4 kids, while barely making enough money to feed 2 of them.

And firefighters cause fires, lol

See

I'm gonna imagine that you meant economic boom and not population boom (since we're arguing about a fucking fertility graph here) but whatever.
Obviously there was a growth, but it didn't happen as early as 1949. Japan's economic miracle only really got under way by 1954, which (if you look on that graph) was the only year that fertility actually increased in almost a decade.

It was becoming _more_ prosperous, but it wasn't yet prosperous enough. It lost quite a bit of GDP after the war, and only reached post end-of-war levels of prosperity by 1954 (which your own graph corroborates).

>proven wrong
>so buttflustered you can't even form a response that makes sense
>try anyway and it's awful

I find great joy in the knowledge that I will never be this much of a retard.

Is it wrong that I think the first girl is the hottest of the bunch

>muh good parynt is child-free maymay
Are you a fucking retard by nature, or did your helicopter mom make you one?

>Nah, culture is never justified by anything.
This thread is already pretty fucking dumb, but shit like this and this really are some of the dumbest fucking shit I've seen on this board in years.

Son, I come from a country that happend to end up commie after the war, because glorious western Allies decided it's fine and dandy to give third of Europe to Stalin.
Which means the country had to deny Marshall plan and all western money support, thus recovering from the war economically till fucking early 60s. Meanwhile, population recovered to pre-war numbers by mid-50s, because lo and behold, whoever was left, was mating like crazy.

Also
>Japan's economic miracle
Can we stop calling basic economic policies combined with no military spendings a miracle?

>Let's post rich, well-off people as a representation of what middle class is
Yeah, you didn't even tried with this one

Is that Pepe there giving that fatso a reach-around?

No, bisexuality is completely natural

Assuming this isn't bait: here ya go, this book should help you with figuring out how it could work:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Handmaid's_Tale

>Work
The main point of the book is how it DOESN'T work. Seriously, Atwood wrote this shit to point out how this shit is not sustainable in any way, and then had to spend another 30 years explaining that further, because people didn't get it the first time around.
Kind of depressive, if you recall the book ending with that sociology summit in the future, where the characters behave very much like people who read the book and just ignored the very conclusion of it.

Lol wut, keep hallucinating.

You are implying that prosperity created by women leaving the family and joining the workforce proves that prosperity causes low birthrates. That's textbook idiocy, as you have kindly shown us.

Which is why OP should read it, and hopefully have something better than that Gor bullshit.

>rich, well-off people
>moving the goalpost
So prosperity causes both high and low birthrates, then?

>You are implying that prosperity created by women leaving the family and joining the workforce

No, just prosperity in general.

The rising cost of living that comes with prosperity makes it harder to create a family, while the relative comfort of society removes the need to do so. Most people no longer NEED children to help them work, and it is no longer in their financial interest to have more than one child - or even one, in many cases.

Women joining the workforce is incidental, and, in fact, households where the woman works are more likely to have children because they're more capable of financing those children with two adults contributing.

You have no understanding of anything, you're making a fool of yourself.

Just because your population recovered without prosperity doesn't mean that Japan's population didn't recover because of prosperity. When did your country give women equal legal status?

>rich, well-off people
Why do you assume this? Honest question.

>Margaret Atwood
youtube.com/watch?v=vifYelSTlMo

I doubt OP would get the memo, assuming he would read it in the first place. After all, it's what? 300 pages? Something like that. And it's definitely far from being fast-paced.
Anyway, nice knowing anyone still remembers that book in current year. It's sadly forgotten by most people, while it was pretty much an obligatory book to read a decade ago.

Gor isn't a modern nation as op asked for.

Though as someone whose read both, The Handmaid's Tale honestly made me wonder if Gor didn't have something right

isn't Jasmine like 14-year old in Aladdin according to Disney canon?

No point even trying now.

>whoever was left, was mating like crazy.
As somebody from post-communist eastern-european country, I would like to remind you of the fact that all east-european countries were under rather strict policies radically enforcing high-birth-rate strategies, prohibited or prevented use of birth-control etc... A semi-totalitarian regimes sometimes can fuck up with your population politics quite hard.

>Can we stop calling basic economic policies combined with no military spendings a miracle?
Oh for fuck sake: east european countires are supposed to have BETTER education, not worse than the west. Grab a fucking book and read a bit about Japanese economical rise and fall before you start vomiting shit like this.

15
And by the end of the entire thing (the direct-to-video and then the series) 19

It's a bullshit radfem pamphlet about the time when evul xtians from Flyoverland defund Planned Parenthood.
Gor is porn.
There is no difference.

brah he didn't do anything in that picture.

You're honestly resorting to "fuck off /pol/" when he's engaging you in good faith

>As somebody from post-communist eastern-european country, I would like to remind you of the fact that all east-european countries were under rather strict policies radically enforcing high-birth-rate strategies, prohibited or prevented use of birth-control etc..
You are literally pulling it from your ass, because the ONLY country under such rule was Romania under Ceaușescu. So stay dumb, but at least don't pretend things happend like they did in Romania in all of Eastern Block. Abortion on demand was absolutely normal, just like widespread access to birth control and proper gynaecology care.

>Read the book
Said the guy sprouting bullshit how reasonable state interventionism, lack of military spending, limited social spending and having the same government elected time and again is a "miracle".
