>calling out questionable behavior
Yeah to a point. But let me have my raunchy language and coarse jokes. If I had to walk around in my LGS like I was at my office every day I would probably go insane

I don't play Magic, but in my experience with gaming clubs the Veeky Forums hobby scene is not a friendly environment to women. Women had a high attrition rate at my own club because it was full of spergs who couldn't hold their spaghetti. The ones who stuck around were usually just as awkward and weird as the men.

This thread can go nowhere good.

>I'd go insane if I couldn't be sexist

Completely cool with. Part of me thinks once she gets what she says she wants she'll just go and fuck the one dickhead who treats her like shit but that part of me if misogyny and sexual frustration.

If you can't handle the bants, don't come to the store

>This thread can go nowhere good.

This. If there's ever going to be any change it'll just happen, and not because someone wants it to.

Raunchy behavior =/= sexism

>acting like there is one unified magic community
It probably would be more effective and less obnoxious to simply tell "Steve McKenzie/the folks at LGS X is/are massive sexist assholes" instead of "you're part of a sexist hobby, do something".

That way people express their complaints, assholes are tagged, and folks that just want to enjoy a card game in peace can.

Too many words

Whether or not raunchy language and coarse jokes are sexist depends on the specifics of the language and the jokes, doesn't it?

I mean, shit, Rick and Morty is super popular among lefties and it's composed of 50% raunchy language and coarsse jokes.

I enjoy watching dudes wring their hands about how they're actually an oppressed minority.

It's like, "You're smarter than the women, so use your dude brain and figure out a solution to your problem".

So yes, I agree with OP and his desire to make yet another /pol/-tier troll thread on muh beloved Mexican racecar collector's forum.

I know you're just baiting for 'you's, but in my opinion women who want to join an environment or hobby that has been predominantly made by men for men, should learn to adapt to it instead of trying to change it to fit their own views.

I don't see male fashion designers going to Victoria's Secret and demanding models to wear briefs or male lingerie.

Believe it or not there's a difference between outright "sexism" and people just being comfortable enough to be less then reserved. Yes autism is an issue and the assorted Veeky Forums hobbies attract these people in literal droves.

but let's not pretend that jonny neckbeard breathing down m'ladies neck from the moment she walks in is the same as overhearing a prepare your anus joke from three tables over

>This. If there's ever going to be any change it'll just happen, and not because someone wants it to.
When has that ever happened in history in terms of fighting discrimination?

>one day slavery just ended
>one day women could just vote
>one day gay people just were getting beaten less
None of the above is an accurate representation of history.

>Raunchy language and course jokes
>Automatically sexist

Ok let's flip this bitch, it is perfectly acceptable in almost any situation to tell the same joke so long as it isn't about a woman. The point being made is that people have things they want to say that aren't exactly in line with the status quo. An outlet for this is around, normally a group of guys and introducing one woman to that shouldn't force everyone else to change their behavior.

No people shouldn't be complete asshats because you have a vagina, but they shouldn't have to tip toe around you either. If you don't like the people or the atmosphere leave and try and find another. If there isn't then nut the fuck up and ask politely for the person to maybe ease off a bit, not full stop but not make every other thing out of their mouth about it.

Be a fucking adult and try and compromise over the issue, this fucking crusade of making everything a clean and safe environment for all is pants on head retarded because it's demanding people conform to the outliers of a group.

I HATE WOMEN SO FUCKING MUCH.

This. We need to call out legitimate sexism when we see it, but not condemn everything that could be misconstrued as sexist.

That article title is dumb. If those things are making women feel less welcome, it's unfortunate, but whatever, those women can watch Star Trek if they want to get it. The real problem is that women are listened to less in STEM classrooms, especially when put in groups of their peers, and sometimes explicitly told they don't belong because they're women.

Your Victoria's Secret example is dumb because in this case we're talking about women getting into hobbies because they like them, then making criticisms from the inside. Just like how you might complain about some MTG color not getting a fair shake in the newest block, or some cards being over-cost.

It's just that they're experiencing an issue with the game (and/or the surrounding community) that you haven't.

you dont belong here

...

It was a mistake to let women out of the kitchen

NORMIES GET OUT. THIS IS ONE OF THE LAST UNTOUCHED HOBBIES BY YOUR FILTHY NORMIE HANDS. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>and sometimes explicitly told they don't belong because they're women.
never actually witnessed that

I heard women don't shower for days at a time.

>go into a male dominated hobby
>don't want men to act like men

I've been playing D&D since the early 90s and Magic: The Gathering since 2004 or so. I've been on Veeky Forums since 2006. I think sexism is a real problem in Veeky Forums hobbies in general and should be dealt with.
They should get along well with Veeky Forums, then.

>men are genetically hardwired to be sexist
Looking for that citation.

>When women pretend to like board games for attention and struggle to appear as if they know what's going on the entire time.

Well, perfume was originally invented to cover foul stench of unwashed body, but it was less of a women thing and more of a French thing.

>taking jokes and male behavior as sexist
You're the sexist here

Sure. We're all playing a children's card game, there's no reason to make people feel unwelcome unless they're actually terrible.

If you're being courteous to people though, that's enough. You shouldn't be expected to police the whole hobby. This shit is not my problem if I'm not contributing to it.

It's too late user. 5e is the best selling edition of D&D ever and its all because Matt Mercer and his roleplaying buddies stream for normies on twitch and the McElroy brothers make funny jokes on their podcast

The colonization of your hobby has begun and there's no stopping it. It's ours now.

yes
can confirm
its disgusting
like - even the pretty ones
and they arent even ashamed of it

Mate, we've been in these hobbies for almost 3 decades.

OP's image literally refers to stores being "unwelcoming" to women. It says nothing about "making jokes" or even "male behavior" in any blanket sense.

>Tfw you ask the girls to play every game evening but they refuse and put the kettle on for you instead.

>The real problem is that women are listened to less in STEM classrooms, especially when put in groups of their peers, and sometimes explicitly told they don't belong because they're women.

How to spot someone who knows jackshit about STEM.

Women are treated like fucking unicorns, and they even get special scholarships for less score than their male counterparts (because they have a female quota).

Not to mention the millions of support groups and organizations existing just to beg them to pick up programming or anything math related.

>Your Victoria's Secret example is dumb because in this case we're talking about women getting into hobbies because they like them, then making criticisms from the inside. Just like how you might complain about some MTG color not getting a fair shake in the newest block, or some cards being over-cost.

I'm not going to join football because I like playing with the ball, but throw a shitfit when someone in the other team starts cheering and making loud noises after scoring a goal.

>It's just that they're experiencing an issue with the game (and/or the surrounding community) that you haven't.
The point is that it's not an issue, bantz is a core aspect of a competitive game between men. If they don't like our behavior they should suit themselves and make female-only tournaments, just like they did for Chess and esports.

How are the stores unwelcoming to women exactly?

I don't know. Ask the creator of that comic. But if stores ARE unwelcoming to women, that's shitty.

Most FLGS need to be run like actual businesses and not like a club for the owner's/cashier's sperg friends to hang out.

You hear shit every day that would rightfully get you kicked out of any other place of business, and because the owners don't care to do anything about it you just get a bunch of increasingly comfortable autists being more and more comfortable backbiting whoever isn't around until someone says niggers and the owner realizes he hasn't had new customers in four months.

They have Geek culture stuff everywhere to repell and make them feel unwelcome.

>talking about Star Trek is sexist

what a time to be alive

Why was this thread made? OP why did you feel the need to post this? There are no outcomes where this thread isn't shitted up by one side of the argument or another

There is no reason to think that they would be, ever. The comic is retarded and so are you for trying to virtue signal so hard in this thread.

I feel like a girl walking into a LGS or gaming club and immediately finding herself the Fedora Brigade's next target is an unwelcoming experience.

Overall though, I think the "issue" is these hobbies attract a lot of socially retarded idiots who can barely function around other men, much less women they think are hot.

No.

But I don't feel like arguing with bait, so here's my sage-ly advice.

Maybe I'm in a weird spot but have you never heard the words: "Family Store"?

>socially retarded idiots who can barely function around other men, much less women they think are hot.
this so much

Isn't it sexist if the women are trying to change the men?

maybe his LGS doesnt call itself that?
Mine sure dont, almost everyone there swears like a sailor

/thread

Nah. People who complain about the behavior of others are in 99% of cases just self-righteous assholes who get a rush from making other people feel guilty over nothing. People like that are so common that at this point I'm assuming everyone who even uses the words "sexism" or "racism" is automatically full of shit unless proven otherwise. Needless to say, holier-than-thou twats are a detriment to the hobby and presence of them is likely to make me take my business elsewhere to avoid the annoyance.

The remaining 1% is cases where there's an actual problem, but people who cause actual problems tend to eventually sort themselves out because they do something that gets them a lifetime ban from the store and/or jailed.

This is a bunch of horse shit. Yes there are sperglords who will reeee at women playing warhams or whatever and there can be some orbiting going on if there is an attractive grill. But for the most part this is made up victim complex bullshit from attention whores who don't give two fucks about the actual hobby. From time to time we have grills come in to the LGS either with their bfs or by themselves and everyone is super courteous and nice, in fact I would go so far as to say the language gets toned down a bit of a grill is around. This is just standard feminist garbage.

So don't play with sexists and mind your own damn business.

>tfw there's a girl in the game and all the beta's are playing it easy so she'll win and you bring your A game and clean up farting and burping loudly and the bitch contacts you after looking to fuck because you spend all day at the gym and didn't talk about Star Trek or Wars or whatever.

That is up to the owner's discretion, if they want to be a family store then yes they should, but apparently where that user plays doesn't care so much for that.

So now it comes down to if you don't like the atmosphere find another. If there isn't one then try a discussion to compromise but asking people to conform to what you want when being an outlier is stupid.

Trust me, that degree in gender studies made them an expert in STEM fields why else would they pay so much for their useless degrees? That would imply that it was a bad decision and that maybe they aren't as smart or beneficial as STEMlords who are all cishet white males.

And that would be sexist/racist/homophobic/transphobic

>immediately finding herself the Fedora Brigade's next target is an unwelcoming experience.

So much fucking this.

Whenever my wife is looking to buy another set of mini's she either orders online or asks me to go pick it up for her. Why? Because every time she went in, and I wasn't with her, some fat ass autist would stare her down, try to accidentally touch her, and boast to his buddies about what he'd do to her.

My wife should not need to wear a fucking Burqa into the LGS. This is not fucking Saudi Arabia. I should not need to escort her around a game store because some desperate retard doesn't know how to respect other people.

>edgelord detected
>huge chip on shoulder detected
Show me where on the ideology did the feminist touch you?

Except her real problem is the fat ugly neckbeards around her and the card art of women that are sexier than her.

>not a family store
Fair enough, but I've dealt with fucks who take that as the default often enough that they think it's totally chill to do even when it's really not and we've told them multiple times to correct their behavior.

>beta's

Nobody is telling you not to say "shit" or "fuck" (unless it's a "family store" and they do tell you not to say those things because kids).

Archer was nominated for an award (I don't remember if it won) for best depiction of a gay character. Cracked is super left-leaning and even "social justice" oriented, and yet makes jokes about prostitutes and the word "teat" being funny. Rick & Morty has jokes about a woman trying to get her husband to replace his dick with an alien dildo and a teenage girl who pisses her pants all the time, and the left loves it.

If there is a problem, it isn't you saying a potty word or even making a sex-related joke.

This is the best response. Some communities work to maintain an environment to welcome women, children and new players. The ones that don't slowly die off after so much time and their "steady" group abandons the hobby one by one.

You're looking at a hobby that does attract a lot of "That Guy"s. But trying to paint everyone with a broad brush doesn't help.

>are playing it easy so she'll win
she dont wanted a looser

Wow! People being assholes is *somehow* magically tied to their gender! More news at eleven!

Because they're full of sexually undesirable men. That's literally the only explanation for this, since we all know girls will put up with chads who treat them like shit

yeah but 'retard' and 'rape' are straight out and I can't have a good unless I can tell the Aristocrats joke from start to finish with every D&D character I play

I'm sure that LGS' penchant for becoming caves for loitering neckbeard hamplanets is completely unrelated to why most also have the life expectancy of a goldfish.

Yea but your wife has a normal respected life outside the LFGS. The disgusting beta, as much as it is his own fault, lives a pathetic life of social squalor.

What do you want to ban their kind from their sanctuary so your wife can buy mini's once in a blue moon?

Game stores already wish disgusting omega neckbeards didn't exist but they do and there's nothing you and your wife protesting can do about it.

Their awkward stares are nothing to to the bullying and Pariahlike destitute they face day to day.

They're full of sexually undesirable men who either fawn over anyone with extra estrogen and/or rebuke them for not wanting to fuck them instead of their pre-existing "chad" that they've been with since before they stepped foot in the store.

>I can tell the Aristocrats joke from start to finish with every D&D character I play
at the same time?

It's because the only female captain to have been a main character was a mary sue.

While I agree the fedora lords are genuinely retarded and make the rest of us look bad, the girls would bitch regardless

Talking in general is undesirable these days.

look, if we gassed all the beta males, this hobby would have like 5 people left in it with a Y chromosome
theres just not much that can be done about it, other than ignore the stench and the social awkwardness

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't she the Mary Sue that defined the fucking term?

>What do you want to ban their kind from their sanctuary so your wife can buy mini's once in a blue moon?

Not him but I don't think anyone's talking about banning Fedora Frank and Nice Guy Nick from stinking up their favorite LGS. Just it's not unreasonable to sympathize with women who just wanna go buy Magic cards or play a game of D&D without fear of someone creeping on them.

I'm talking about Janeway.

Bitches ain't nothing but hoes and trix

Magic will always be the tabletop game with the worst social environment because it's the garbage dump where players with no social skills end up. To be part of an RPG campaign or board game night, you have to be able to secure an invitation to a small, exclusive social circle. You have to have the social skills to get along with the same group of people for a long time. To a lesser extent, tabletop wargames also involve spending time and effort maintaining social ties, agreeing to play certain scenarios, interpreting vague rules, etc. But Magic's heavily templated and unambiguous rules mean that you don't need to know any of the people you play with - and more importantly, you don't need to like them. Magic is the tabletop game that it's easiest to get into and hardest to be thrown out of.

>>one day slavery just ended
>>one day women could just vote
>>one day gay people just were getting beaten less
>these are equivalent demanding a niche interest change to accommodate an even smaller population

None of those except slavery ending are good

>I don't think anyone's talking about banning Fedora Frank and Nice Guy Nick from stinking up their favorite LGS

Never clicked on one of these bait threads, huh? Whyd you decide on today to make this particular bad decision?

>I think sexism is a real problem in Veeky Forums hobbies in general and should be dealt with.
These tells me you've never experienced any real problems in your life.

>Whyd you decide on today to make this particular bad decision?

I like to live dangerously.

>666
I dunno satan your logic goes back up the other way too, why shouldn't niche interest demographics making a demand known to a small community be incapable of causing change on that same small scale?

Because if they can't effect change in the community/cultural/hobby arena, why should we expect effecting change to be remotely possible in a national/economical/legal arena.

>I dunno satan your logic goes back up the other way too
No, it doesn't. One of those describes the ending of a dehumanizing act of barbarism. One is expanding political agency to half the adult population. One is about ending physical violence and death to people. One is about making like 15 people more comfortable who may in fact be overreacting.

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong.

I don't know, I wouldn't say it's a problem so much in the 'national outcry, PANIC!' sense but in the: "This shit is easy to address and fix, why the fuck is it still around? It's fucking embarrassing" sense, it really is fucking bizarre.

Nothing like a good old Magic game where my opponent is telling me
>how terrible and sexist the Magic community (that i'm part of) is
>how awful problematic and unwelcoming LGS stores are (obviously talking about the store she's currently sitting in run by my good natured and kind hearted friend who wouldn't stand for any of this but, fuck him and fuck his problematic store)
>how I should be on the lookout for problematic behaviour. actively challenging and calling it out and not doing so means I'm part of the problem.

I'd totally love being talked at about these things while I just want to play some fucking Magic.

Having to deal with bullshit like this is *totally* not what causes groups of players to close ranks and only play each other, (while being told this is also problematic as well)

Literally this easy to asspain neck beards on the internet

because changing the political opinions of a country's population is different from trying to change the beliefs of neckbeard spergs in regards to social boundries and personal space?
and also because one is obvious, unavoidable outright oppression, and the other is easily avoided spergs being awkward at you?

>it really is fucking bizarre.
>it's really bizarre that a subset of people who have been social outcasts in regards to the rest of the population are weird as fuck and often uncomfortable to be around
Yeah, it's crazy.

I feel like this article is relevant:

status451.com/2016/09/15/social-gentrification/

>why is human nature still around?
The reason we laugh at "liberals" so much is because they genuinely think they can control human nature. You will never see the end of racism, or sexism, or violence, or anything bad that humans do. All you can do is learn to deal with it, like all the normal people have been telling you to do. And dealing with it does not mean crying to the government and handing your legal rights of free speech away, it means getting the fuck over it yourself, like most of us do

This thread should be pruned. Baiting is the most egregous sin on Veeky Forums. Shame on you OP, this isnt /v/.

Maybe this means I qualify as a normie but I have rarely if ever felt like a social outcast and have never felt like that was a prerequisite for Veeky Forums hobbies.

Meanwhile Ive met folks who try to spark conversation at game nights about how we were all bullied and shunned as children, when that's not an experience I've had.

Like, sorry you had a bad time in school or with girls or whatever but I just like fantasy games and makin little minis. If you want to open up about that, fine, i feel for you, but don't assume just because I'm fat and play tabletop means I'm socially retarded.

>Overall though, I think the "issue" is these hobbies attract a lot of socially retarded idiots who can barely function around other men.

It this, it's this, it's a thousand times this.

Can ANYONE honestly claim to look around their LGS at its busiest and think

>These people are all normal functioning members of society

At mine? Perhaps 40% are... but that still leaves 60% who have no idea what social boundaries are, have varying levels autism, aspergers, have left humanity behind in some cases, refuse to wash themselves or their clothes. Dress like the most unironic stereotypical fedora athiest memes

That being said, I have never witnessed a girl being harassed, or objectified to the cartoon sexism I see in comics

>HEY SLUT, MAGIC IS FOR DUDES, SHOW ME YOUR TITS, WHORE

this has never happened, literally ever.

But I do witness many many many dudes, fall helplessly in love with plain "geeky" girls, and it shows and probably makes them uncomfortable.

I think you saw this on reddit and thought it was good for a few (you)s

that being said, I have no problem with an hypotetical girl calling out whatever behaviour she finds offensive.

>People can't improve and shouldn't try

Violence is human nature but it's still illegal to murder you dumb nigger
