just missed the last thread, pretty cool ship sketches in here

Will it ever hit X-Wing?

I think it's in Commander - which hasn't been explicitly said to use non-canon material (so all visuals and lore and stuff is still canon) so it's possible, but I'm not sure people are clamoring for another large base turret rebel ship.
Joshua Cook
>why? We, uh... modified it.
Sebastian Perez
That's pretty amazing
Jack Martinez
Yeah so what's the purpose of the shitty crane arm?
Jaxson Watson
Originally, salvage. Now? For our resident "Jedi" to fuck around.
Caleb Brown
Oh I know it's not a freighter, but that don't mean its not one of my favorites.
>It's not always intentional, but given the lethality of starfighter combat in X-Wing, the risk of having a player lose his or her character is far greater in a blended X-Wing and Age of Rebellion game than in your standard Age of Rebellion campaign. That's part of the charm. That's like the exact opposite of what you want in FFGs starfighter combat.
>So when a player loses their character in the X-Wing portions of the game, you—as Game Master—should make the others roleplay their anguish. I’d even suggest adding some dark side points or using them more frequently here to simulate the added pressure. Sounds like bad GMing to me. Thoughts?
Brayden Murphy
Anytime a GM tries to force a player to roleplay a certain way, it's bad GMing, period.
Camden Perez
>Thoughts? Use /swg/ starfighter rules in part/or complete
Adrian Garcia
>That's like the exact opposite of what you want in FFGs starfighter combat.
It's not really that greater - RAW allows a SIL 3 ship to explode when you exceed Hull Threshold. If only ejection systems were in the standard equipment systems for ships...
>Sounds like bad GMing to me. Thoughts?
Lazy GMing is usually bad yes. "Oh, we combined X-Wing with AoR, so you just die, like you would in normal AoR. And I don't want to fuck around with the actual roleplaying options of the game, so I put all the onus on you to roleplay."
Angel Lee
I just like it's looks.
Jace Ward
Oh, I should clarify since it isn't clear - sticking to the... RAW or whatever for X-Wing is nonsensical because X-Wing is a limited tactical game. You might find it more fun for the tactical combat, but it's pure laziness on the GM to ignore all the other, non-tactical stuff the RPG handles with ships, like sensors, comms, hyperspace calculations and yes, ejector seats for the broader scenario. If story is vital, don't let the constraints of X-Wing bog you.
Also, I don't know if it was just because it was abbreviated, but some of that jabbering about the talents seemed really confusing and needlessly complicated. I feel like you could translate them way simpler into X-Wing.
Kevin Clark
My fellow man with patrician taste.
Dylan Carter
In less than 2 weeks, we get our first serious shot at adding Trioculus to X-wing, with Chumbalaya's run at the Coruscant Invitational.
What do you think the 7 other contestants will be bringing?
Of all of the lists, they were all meta staples, so it's not like much can be assumed about what anyone will fly (None of them have 'signature builds' or the like, 4 were Paratanni, 2 were Biggs Miranda Stresshog, one Palp Defenders, 1 Triple Scout)
That means that almost all of the preparation that can be done revolves around practice and analyzing these 24 ships to see what builds they fit into.
Do any of you notice anything about any of those draft-able ship builds? The empire ones got discussed pretty thoroughly in the last thread, but scum and rebels were untouched.
Ayden Anderson
nothing beats a classic
Oliver Bell
For anyone that has Special Modifications, what is the mechanical benefit of a data spike?
Dylan Fisher
I mean I could try and say some shit about the rebel stuff but I've never played in a tournament and am not particularly familiar with the popular meta lists aside from palp shuttles, biggs whatevers and fucking jumpmasters, so I don't know how useful my input would be >X-wing seems whatever, not a whole lot you can really do with the generics, the seismic means maybe chip damage against swarms if people go that way but if they're mostly going big ships which I think is probably likely you probably don't want that since you don't want to make it easier for them to get around. >HWK It's a TLT I guess, maybe it can block with the roll if shit gets too close to turret? Seems middling >k-wing I don't know jack shit about using bombs but I guess if you've got a fast list like an A-wing swarm or your own K's or something against slow there could be some merit to blitzing across the board to plop that mine somewhere inconvenient turn 1 or 2. >z-95s probably fine against whatever >t-70 seems like a strictly more useful x-wing unless there's a lot of swarms >A-wing a strange set of shit that I really don't see being super useful, predator will pretty much have a guaranteed proc on at least one ship in each list because of the draft but probably constructed parts are gong to be able to heavily token up so I feel like you either take it if you have wes or if everyone has swarms. >Y-wing seems fine, like a budget jumpmaster, would rather have had r2 over targeting astro but probably good against basically anything but a swarm >B-wing good fucking luck with that
I would probably pretty much universally want the Y-wing or the Z's the most, then probably the T-70 and the rest would really depend on what you were up against. B would be at the bottom, ion cannon is too situational, K only if you built around it which seems risky, the other three more or less interchangeable.
Adrian Torres
Because space turtle
>Once per round. a character with a dataspike may expend it to attempt to disable a security program as a maneuver (rather than as an action). >This can include the use of the Disable Security Program action [see Slicing Encounters, page 87). Reduce the difficulty of the subsequent Computers check to disable the program by 2. to a minimum of Simple (-). >After one use, the dataspike burns out and becomes useless.
They're pretty vicious little things for 100c, the reduction in difficulty is quite a big bonus once you're in there
Chase Perez
My favorite. Well not exactly this. HWK-290 is my favorite but the images are being used interchangeably so whatever. Mostly just because I love Dark Forces game.
Connor Jones
I unironically like VCX-100.
Brody Gray
Thanks, I'm actually not getting it for me but I'm using it in the stats for my KX-series security/enforcer droid NPCs.
I'll post the stats if y'all are interested.
Hunter Reyes
>If only ejection systems were in the standard equipment systems for ships...
That might work the first three times a player eats it in their X-wing, but eventually that explanation gets stale. After, ejection systems malfunction, or more often never get a chance to even be used because the fighter goes up in a fireball before the pilot can react. Any system where the player will lose his ship the majority of space combats is a shitty system for any RPG. That's why /swg/ has the house rules to fix that problem in the base FFG game.
Chase Evans
Muh fukkin niggas. Capital of the year, all years.
Owen Fisher
Well in fairness, you could instead change it up so rather than 'blown the fuck up', a ship could be damaged beyond ability to fight.
Engines blown out, s-foils shot off, etc. With that, maybe they become combat ineffective, but if they can get off the board they escape the battle - no shooting, etc, but they can move.
Rest of the group now wants to cover them as best possible, or they can try and use their ejector. I'd go with 'straight up detonates' only as a result of a really really bad crit roll, and even then, I'd probably allow destiny point usage for ejectors.
You're right though, its a really stupid idea. Using X-Wing's rules when its based around expendable units as a pure tactics game 100% doesnt work when you're dealing with actual characters who have time and effort put into them.
If they made something like Imperial Assault for starships, so things were balanced around trying desperately to stay alive to continue with the character, then that'd work MUCH better.
Course, as you say, that's why we have the house rules.
Aaron Morales
Even in X-wing's own unoffical campaign, they assume you auto-eject, and you can roll to see who finds your body/how injured you are.
Jacob Long
user with the doggo who biggsed his biggs here, went to the local store after work today and confirmed that none of the judges should have a problem with it being in tournaments, should be fun to use.
Cameron Butler
It looks totally repairable as well, i sat on a T-70 by mistake while repainting it, and it broke in the exact same way. I fixed it with superglue in 30 seconds.
Nathan Mitchell
I'd have to disagree.
Austin Baker
Anybody got a source for star wars like music that's free/public domain for distribution?
Asher Morris
Space Dildo's are awfully upfront about what they plan to do to you if you get into weapons range aren't they?
Anthony Phillips
It hails from a great design era of republic ship production when implied penetration was considered aesthetic
Caleb Scott
The Planets by Gustav Holst is probably the biggest source of inspiration John Williams used for Star Wars's soundtrack (at least the OT), and I believe it's public domain.
John Johnson
I wish.
David Campbell
I don't think it's public domain, Holst only died in the 1930's. Public domain is afaik 100 years after the creator's death.
Jonathan Clark
>ramming speed
Dominic Scott
Holst was British though, and it's 75 years over here.
Oliver Howard
Does it have a ship size lightsaber to go with it?
Jaxson Perry
>a ship size lightsaber Wouldn't that just be a composite beam laser like the LAAT/i's ball turrets or Rebels' proto-B-wing?
Michael Butler
Why did people lie to me about Lucas being a bad editor and all that "ANH was saved in editing by Marcia" stuff?
I'm reading this book, and not only do people like John Milius say things like pic related, but it talks about how Lucas was the one who decided that the original guy he had hired to edit was shit, and brought in Marcia and two other people and gave them direction on how he wanted the edit, and was very hands on.
He was apparently a respected editor.
Brody Phillips
GF wants to into Scum for X-wing. Would a Jumpmaster and Most Wanted make a good gift?
Ayden Perry
/swg/, how do you Inquisitor/Emperor's Hand? I want to spice up my BBEGs and not have them be so generic
Jeremiah Brooks
Probably, though for Most Wanted I'd ask if they have access to the HWK and Firespray minis to make use of the cardboard.
Leo Peterson
She doesn't have anything right now afaik. She definitely won't have either of those ships. Maybe getting her a firespray instead of the jumpmaster would make more sense?
Brayden Edwards
Gray Squadron Pilot [R2 Astromech, Bomb Loadout, Extra Munitions, Twin Laser Turret, Conner Net] (33) x 3
How does this look? 3 TLTs 6 Conner Nets Seems pretty ok to me.
Evan Garcia
Best ships needed to rebuild an Empire.
Sebastian Perry
I like that guys designs, but no. That is not nice, not at all.
Joseph Gutierrez
Skywalking the Dale Pollock one is not a good source. It has largely been superseceded by recent works on SW/Lucas and has been as too hagiographical (he refuses to release the raw transcripts) and making too many errors. People use it for his primary access and interviews to Lucas, but even the official LFL books are better in covering bts and now it's largely seen as a work of its time.
Henry Brown
Does she want to jump in and be competitive?
Or is the playgroup just the two of you?
Luke Morris
She's probably not ever gonna do tourneys like I do. The play group is pretty casual, just us three guys and our GFs. Out of all of us, I'm the only tourney fag, and I know how to tone my lists down for fair play.
Caleb Smith
Does anyone have the household item ship design pdf? My Group got their first ship and I'd like to do something custom for them.
Landon Richardson
Then yeah, Firespray should be fine.
Grayson Sullivan
What's your dream SW tabletop game that doesn't currently exist?
Easton Watson
Because there's a concerted "George is was and will always be shit" narrative that's been pushed for twenty years now.
People like to downplay his contributions and push others to the forefront, despite the fact that he nearly broke himself from the stress of getting ANH right and has been hands-on on ways not a lot of directors are willing to do, and it's his directions that largely pushed special effects to greater bounds.
Joseph Thomas
I appreciate the Wayfarer's clear distinction between ship and cargo hold. Truly a dedicated freighter.
Christian Hall
LOL that looks like the UPS truck of starships
Hunter Nguyen
People forget that every single director ever should have their picture in a dictionary next to the term "Diminishing returns." Every good director turns to shit pretty quick. Look at Ridley Scott's career, look at James Cameron's career, look at Lucas' career. It's a cycle that every good director goes through. Just because they turned out shit in the end doesn't mean we should forget about how good the OT was, or Blade Runner/Alien, or Terminator. Every good director has his moment in the sun, then a spiral into the retirement home. As someone who's going to start directing smaller indie stuff within a year, it's important to have this kind of perspective.
Noah Butler
Is Gwendoline Christie signed on for the next movie or two or is Phasma ded?
Hudson Rivera
Part of it is probably that on their first films, if they did something retarded, people are happy to say "man that's not great, have you considered X?" But later on, when they've achieved godhood in hollywood, people are terrified to naysay anything to them.
Which is entirely understandable, and also not their fault. Just means that there's distinctly less oversight.
David Sanchez
>"man that's not great, have you considered X?" This reminds me of a story from the behind the scenes of Aliens. James Cameron showed either the screenplay or the finished movie to a friend who went, "oh, so it's like a Them! remake?". Cameron had never seen Them!, watched the movie and had an "oh, shit" moment.
Isaiah Nguyen
Bump?
Aiden Ward
Is there a fan made remaster of the OT that has high quality without the lucas bullshit added in?
Ethan Sullivan
no
Thomas Johnson
>Is Gwendoline Christie signed on for the next movie I sure hope so, killing her off would be an absolute waste of the character. I'm thinking they'll use her as a rival to Finn and a badass normal.
Kayden Perry
Yes there is. Search for Star Wars Despecialised.
It's basically blu-ray quality, cut together from a bunch of different sources and cleaned up by massive autists who love these films something fierce.
Its the original films before Lucas did anything. No CGI touchups, not even the good ones like making the snowspeeder's cockpits a bit less seethrough.
Anthony Williams
You've got Star Wars Revisited, which is pretty good although the guy doing it has only finished ANH so far.
I think he's about part-way through ESB, but it's taking a lot longer because of how much more effects-heavy it is. Looks as though he's basically rebuilding the movie from the ground up, right down to doing the effects again in his basement.
William Jones
Phasma is Finn's foil Hux is Poe's foil Kylo is Rey's foil
IT'S LIKE 3 TRILOGIES IN ONE!!!!!
Kill me now
Benjamin Kelly
It rhymes like poetry
Cooper Phillips
>Hux is Poe's foil When did Hux become an ace pilot?
Brody Richardson
...
Ayden Smith
I think there's also the idea that a lot of other people who worked on ANH also went on to become big and a number of them are extremely interested in getting their fair share of credit for everything they did. Ben Burt for example did sound, but he also wants to emphasize that a number of shots in the film were his idea. Which is why he's been going around putting stuff from his student films on display and showing how obviously certain bits of the Death Star Assault were influenced by that. A lot of emphasis is also being placed recently on Alec Guiness for helping keep things together.
Neither of those things are ACTUALLY within a directors purview. Which is what some people don't really get. The problem only really comes up when people assume a directors purview is in literally everything and that they HAVE to be a super auteur.
Caleb Roberts
>Skywalking the Dale Pollock one is not a good source. Source? I find it hard to believe that John Milius is lying.
Lincoln Perez
> # >Skywalking the Dale Pollock one is not a good source. You can't just say that and not give a source. I agree with the guy above me.
Angel Roberts
Anyone have a good cross-section/floorplan for one of pic related? Considering using one for a hypothetical game.
Jace Cook
Admiral vs Pilot
Parker Butler
Post underrated and badass species
Elijah Walker
Are there recommended builds for EotE snipers or I just make an Assassin focused on ranged?
Christian Gomez
Mercenary Soldier has multiple ranks in true aim, which is a godsend for shooting at range.
Adrian Harris
...
Charles Stewart
Are either of these lists good?
I have 2 Kihraxz that I bought to make a starter scum list/to get copies of crack shot, and I'm thinking that I could make this fairly easily, since Kihraxz can be picked up sans-crack-shot for $6 or so.
Asher Bailey
Naked or nearly naked Kihraxz? No, they aren't "good", but if you're just fucking around you could do worse than 5 3 ATK ships.
Luke Wright
Why not just use Sharpshooter from AoR? It's not like one would be out of place in an EotE game.
Jordan Gray
So I've been running this list in x-wing. It started as a generics only experiment, but it wins and I like how it flies.
i think that this list would struggle to deal with Aces. Your Patrol Leader can't mod shots, your TIEs can't double mod, and your re-positioning is a single action at PS 3.
I would replace Gunner and Fleet Officer with Hux and something that costs 3.
Logan Barnes
Fingers crossed for Poe getting his own pilot rival. It'll probably never happen, but I hope he lands the killing blow on Kylo Ren via air duel.
Jeremiah Morgan
No, but they wanted one.
Isaac Allen
Would anyone happen to have an art of Star Wars office worker? I'm looking for someone fairly nondescript, boring and "nerdy" for lack of a better term
Michael Clark
Best starter ship in my opinion. Wonky to fly but that cargo hold can be fitted to do just about anything and if you get a base of operations you can get multiple crates and change them out for specific missions on the fly. No need to refit a whole craft just to get some cells for those bounties or remove the cargo bay to make way for a hangar. Just swap the crate and you're good to go.
Benjamin Nelson
Because where would the Rebellion be without it?
Wyatt Gonzalez
Naw, he might blow up Hux's capital ship though. An enemy ace pilot to fuck his shit up in 8 and Poe to turn the tables on in 9 would be great though.
On a side note, what's the chance they'll get like an ARC-170 or some future version of it for Poe and Finn to team up again in? Not like they have the Falcon to fly around in, and this'll let them go places if they can slip BB8 in.
