Varied Secutarii Detectives were investigating illegal Custodes Stormbirds thanks to Whale competition, fluff and cheese were deemed not mutually exclusive and Black Sheep Custodes were hunted by Pale Nomad beepboops. Sangy didn't need swords and Lorgar picked up Volkite as 10k Custodes can't have their existence justified despite shiny tanks. All this and more in the previous thread >READ MOTHERFUCKER READ

First for the XIVth

So that's a Custodes thread, then. I think. We should really add a number code for over 20 into the OP.

XVIth

D'oh

WIP marauder chief. I'll probably replace the lascarbine with a pariah bolter once the bits arrive.

how do you guys do glow effects on your minis?

Pic related isn't mine.

also purpley pink glow effect? Yay or nay.

At least you got it right on the tank itself. Which is pretty nice, by the way. Got any pics of the rest of the army? Luna Wolves often end up looking kind of boring, so I'd be interested to see more.

...

>when your greenstuff parchment breaks off the model as soon as you touch it because it hasnt attached itself to the plastic properly

I don't, basically, apart from on the coils of the plasmagun themselves. Which I do in a pretty halfassed way: paint it blue, wash blue, then drybrush white. Works well enough.

>purpley-pink
What legion do you play? Could see it working for some, but definitely not for others.

Trying to get a militia army together, but I know little about 30k, are they any good? how do they work?

I'm doing the standard survivors of the dark age/ warrior elite cheese with a couple S5 laslock grenadiers in rhinos, two max blobs of grenadiers with S4 las rifles, two sets of 3 rapiers, 2 vanilla leman russes, and topped off with a giant blob of 10 AP3 autocannons with my 3++ warlord in it so they don't run away

Is this shit or good?

It's not mine and I don't know who's it is. I saved it because I totally agree with you in that it's a great Luna Wolves scheme that doesn't look bland.

I wanted to do a diorama of Death Guard from Dusk Raider beginnings through to 40k plague Marine (when they're released)

these are kind of steps 1 through 4. Pre- Mortarion Dusk Raider, Loyalist DG, Traitor DG, late Heresy Death Guard.

the dusk raider is still wet and WIP.

Thin layers of the glow-colour with a little bit of more white paint added to it each time. They key is to stop before you can no longer see the underlaying colour through the glow effect. Because then it just looks lazy and cheap.

Comfy summary, thanks user.

No mention of Thunderhawk transporters flying off with the enemy's spartan holding a deathstar sadly.

Iron Hands. I have two made for other things, but I haven't bought any yet, because I basically want to use MEdusan Immortal bodies heavily with lots of purple wash on the steel bits, and lots of purple pink glow effect. Like they are those cyber mantic undead IH.

THIN YOUR PAINTS

How do I Imperial Fist?

I chose the Fists for a few reasons. My main force is Night Lords and I wanted something to contrast with them. Fists felt like a good fit: they're bright, shooty, and loyalist where NLs are dark, choppy, and traitor. Also, I found a good tutorial for doing yellow without needing to pull my hair out, so that's a plus.

Using my spare Calth/Prospero bits and FW shoulder pads and other legion upgrades, the core of my army will be three 15-man tactical squads and a pair of veteran squads.
I'm not sure how to kit the veterans (I'm thinking a power fist, missile launcher, and heavy bolter in each?), and I could also use advice on how to expand from there.
Just note that I don't like using named characters, so Siggy, Dorn, and the like are out.

Simmer down princess

Why thank you. I try, since the usual breadanon appears to not be here.

That was thread before last, although if I see skipped summaries in future I'll try to include those threads in mine when I do make one/ Was a hilarious tactic, though. Didn't even need to bend any rules.

Also, does anyone know a good guide for doing marble bases? I want my dudes to be modeled as if they're in the ruins of a temple, with marble (or white stone in general) floors and bits of broken statues all around.

They're not very fun to paint.

You have to be a brain surgeon when doing any washing or black paint because the yellow is just horrible to redo.

Yeah, I know. I'm going to give this method:
youtube.com/watch?v=2qmS9iEWYAk
a try before going deciding, but I feel confident I can pull it off.

Hey those look great! Especially the Dusk Raider and Pre Plague marine.
Too good, in fact. Did you use a filter?

I really like them user, good work

outside of the charge, is there that much difference between spear and sword/board custodes?

Board and sword custodes get re-rolls to their invulnerable saves and fire overwatch at BS2.

I want to fluff my Ordo Reductor fleet reasonably, but if they bring Battlefleet Gothic back I obviously want to collect it. Was too late to the party to play the old one, were there Admech ships in it and/or were they any good?

Also, what was the usual size for a reasonable Admech or if theyre not a thing Imperial Navy fleet for regular games, and what different ship types did they have? Would be nice to bring all the different ships in my 30/40k army background into there too.

You caught me out. I put a sepia filter on to kind of standardise them more. Here's an older photo in their unadjusted colours.

>I want to fluff my Ordo Reductor fleet reasonably
Then watch out, user. The Ordo Reductor uses Galeass class ships instead of the usual Ark Mechanicum. Source HH5.

Yeah, I saw that bit. IIRC they're basically less well-armed battlecruisers that are way more self-sufficient and have better auxilary facilities, right? Should be doable if they let you put support systems and fighter squadrons on ships, although I have no idea how the dice game worked having only played the Armada vidya.

I heard you used a marker for the white on the bolter, do you mind telling me what it is for my TSons?

There were AdMech ships added later in the game's life, basically Imperial Navy classes plus a dorsal lance. Rules here (see "Ships of Mars"): tinyurl krvjax4 (Veeky Forums doesn't like the full link so fill in the gaps yourself).

You can actually get the ships from "Irene ^_^" on Aliexpress. They put BFG ships up on their aliexpress site sometimes, and then they get taken down within hours. Just email them.

Templars are great at assault, one of the best loyalists get. Use them to chop up the enemy's veterans, heavy support squads, destroyers, armor they can bypass and they'll happily do their job with little recourse.

Phalanx warders are.. odd. I only run a single unit, and I make it somewhat pricey with axes. They're effectively t5 most of the match, except the turn they charge, so give them an apothecary and only a small handful of weapons will bypass their fnp. I use them as a reaction unit rather than a proactive unit. Basically they're there to get between deep striking or outflanking units looking to assault something of mine, be it a tank or expensive unit... they're my fire jumpers so to speak.

Why is bottom left blushing

He shy

I feel that

Nice, thanks. Time for a reading session. Perhaps I'll pick up a couple ships just to have, then, given they look kinda fun to build.

What would the Primarchs do when faced with the King of Space?

I feel like I just had an epiphany as to the best use of a porphyrion: this thing fucking deletes beepboops.

If it can get a large blast over two bots in a unit, with BS5 and twin linked it's fucking trivial to get 8 S10 AP2 hits on a unit of artalax or castellax. It can even fuck over thanatars pretty well and even has a S6 AP4 7" blast template to wipe out thralls.

Roll him up.

40k Thousands Sons player here. Convince me not to buy Calth to make a satanic-themed Word Bearers force

Don't you mean Shaitan?

The dreadnought model in calth is a bit shit.

Er. That's all I can come up with to dissuade you. Sounds like a pretty neat idea to me, all in all.

I just want to incorporate a lot of Black Mass aesthetic and demonic circles. I just finished new Doom and now I'm hooked on all kinds of occult shit.

Well, in terms of 30k, WB are the way to go. I'm sure other legions will get their daemon allies at some point, but when it comes to just full on "Warp overtake me!" WB is your legion. What else would you expect from a legion whose dudes have scripture tattooed on their faces, whose armour got runic carvings all over them and whose transfer sheets are covered in litanies?

>Putting the raptor Imperialis on their tanks

Wouldn't this be against the rules I think only Custodes and Sisters are allowed to wear it

Nah, it's not an uncommon piece of heraldry among the legions. It shows someone that fought in the unification wars of Terra/the Sol system, or alongside Emps.

>only Custodes and Sisters
>while art and models have it plastered all across them

Tell me again how non-EC aquilas are not 30k.

Rough him up.
Emperors > Kings.

Ahh yis, good work brother user

That sort of color modulation seems to be the best way to make white look good on vehicles, whether it's realistic or not. I'd better figure out how to do it before I start my Scars.

>black legion ordered to repaint their armour by Abaddon "because of the shame of losing"
>new scheme is black with gold edging
>justaerin scheme was always black with gold edging
Abaddon is just a lazy bastard, didn't want to repaint his armour.

>>black legion ordered to repaint their armour by Abaddon "because of the shame of losing"
I doubt it, traitors have no shame.

You could always do the old turquoise and yellow """camouflage""" scheme

It's this if you care

The shame of having no arms you silly.

Isn't that what Brits had on their tanks in North Africa?

>change colors because "shame of losing"

So why haven't they been every color ever by M41?

Its pretty good in deserts but the thought of a giant riding on a bike all in white decapitating your leader while a rhino hides back trying to not get shot at if funny to me

Wow such vomit.

It gives the white depth, almost as though you were looking upon it with a low sun. Otherwise white looks very flat.

...

Well you know who to complain to

You're thinking of caunter camo, which was more like tan and a few shades of gray (but in long lines with straight edges down the length of the tanks). At least one of those shades would fade to a bluish color in strong UV light, leading people decades later to mistakenly believe that the original color was bright blue.

So how best to represent the fancy sensor and communication array that lets the Whalebird call down Orbital Strikes? Big fancy Damocles Rhino radar dish? Whole bunch of antenna? Honestly not sure, since I feel having a random dish on top of the head would look a little silly.

Why didn't the emperor make the most competent and smartest primarch warmaster?

>I feel having a random dish on top of the head would look a little silly
Well, we can't have anything looking silly on our flying mechanical whale transport festooned with guns and skulls, can we?

Yeah, don't know why either. Guilliman knew that he had to make Sanguinius emperor for Imperium Secundus.

All White Scars vehicles should be red by default, by virtue of making them go faster.

Probably because the Emperor didn't think the other primarchs would listen to Guilliman the way they would to Horus.

I need a deep strike-able unit that can hold the table for at least a turn. What would be the best choice?

I'm thinking of either Jetbikes or Speeder variants because of their speed, but they seem pretty fragile.

Rubbed too many other primarchs the wrong way.

Leviathan.

Horus had the the draw of being the only being in the entire universe that could keep Angron, Curze and Khan in line.

Kek, so a whalebird isn't silly but a dish antenna coming out its blow hole is? You could use external gills, despite whales not being fish. They look like antennae and wouldn't use up too much internal space.

Yeah, I suppose so. Lost perspective there for a little I:)
I'll see what I can find, since I know MI does a Tarantula platform with a sensor fish on it. May come in handy.

Can you be specific about what you want it to do?

Uh, Deep Strike rule by default, not by having a Drop Pod.

Jetbikes at least have a good armor save. I'd say they're more durable than Javelins (definitely don't use normal Speeders since bolters can shoot them down).

Magnus will last a turn.

Sensor Dish, much as everything else has to be a marine creature of some kind :)

That's a really cool idea, actually, and I know an easy way to make something that would look decent. Mix in a couple more conventional devices for contrast and it'll probably look cool. Much appreciated.

Well, I'm trying to run an Orbital Assault army. Problem is, I may automatically lose if I go second and have no model on the table (due to the drop pods).

So I need a unit that can hold the table for at least one shooting phase before the pods drop in.

And sait unit has to have in-built Deep Strike rule due to OA RoW limitation.

Either external gills or the shiny bait the angler fish has. Or the EMP organ bit the gorilla Kaiju had.

Plenty of the Primarchs hated him. The only one who hated Horus was Corax.

From the Heresy30k forum:
>I've spoken to Andy Hoare and Alan Bligh about this at previous events and Weekenders and they have said it's misprint and should be the same as the BRB and auto-lose at the end of your turn. For some reason the Shadow Wars section in Book 6 has the correction but it is missing from the other game rules.

Ooh, that last one looks cool. Maybe I'll have a hole on the decking and build a little comms tower thing with regular dishes and antenna woven though that kind of thing. Be a good use for the Sector Mechanicus control panel plate.

I still don't believe people are actually retarded enough to try to claim a win halfway through turn 1, pack up, and go home. If someone's turned up at their FLGS for a game, it's just a guess, but they probably want to actually play a game.

>Plenty of the Primarchs hated him

but why though? were they jealous of his success or something? Guilliman did nothing wrong, in fact he did everything right

Well, I certainly hope no one is such a fag, but you never know and I just want to be safe.

Holier-than-thou dick.

Girlyman is like the Cyclops of 40k universe.

Too caught up on politics and logistics, and he lacked charisma

I've never seen such an apt description of his character. Well done.

Lorgar hated him for the Monarchia stuff

Angron and Mortarion hated him for having an easy upbringing

Alpharius hated him for their arguments during the Crusade

Dorn and Russ wouldn't have followed him

He wouldn't have been able to control Curze, Perturabo, Lion El'Jonson, or Jaghatai

>got destroyed by worst bearers of all things
>wasn't at terra

He was good, but he was wrong a few times.

The 40k rulebook says you lose at the end of the game turn, never mind that the red book screwed it up.

most priamrchs didn't like him because he was more successful or because they didnt like how he acted better than them when he tried to give them advice
