3rd party bitz

What are chances that 3rd party conversion kits will get you kicked out of official tournaments?
Anyone here use the wargame bits or are they taboo?
What is the market here?

Convert all you want. That's what 40k is for.

But I assumed using 3rd party miniatures at tournaments will get you kicked out?

S-sauce?

wargameexclusive.com/
Wargame exclusive.
Mostly bordering on porn "sexy" variants of male warhammer minis but some cool stuff that isnt trying to get the "horny 14 year old" audience that GW forgot when they tried to cater to the "edgy 14 year old" audience.

Are there still 40k tournaments?

But honestly, play 40k if you want to convert and customize your dudes. Play a tournament game if you want to play competitively.

What about GW shops?
In my town the warhammer store has people playing regularily. They'd probably kick you out with 3rd party miniatures

I believe GW allows conversions so long as the model is recognizable to the setting.

Proxies, where entire models are replaced for 3rd party fare, are not allowed at all. Allegedly, this policy was started in 2013 in reaction to Raging Heroes producing blatantly better Dark Elf Witch Elves, or something.

Those "Egypt Sons" conversion kits are absolutely amazing. Fucking hell.

>wargameexclusive.com/
Yeah, that stuff is great. I think they'll have to do the boob stuff to compete with raging heroes, which are 100% boob based.

If you are getting into the hobby to play competitive and play tournaments, don't choose 40k. At least not until the new rules have arrived.

In all honesty, wargaming is better enjoyed at home with friends, instead of hoping that other people who like space marines have adequate standards of grooming and enough humanity to make a list that could be enjoyable to play against.

>wargaming is better enjoyed at home with friends, instead of hoping that other people who like space marines have adequate standards of grooming and enough humanity to make a list that could be enjoyable to play against
Not necessarily. For example, I went to a wargaming convention late last year where I knew close to nobody (since nobody from my local group could make it). Everyone (and I do mean everyone) was well groomed and cleaned, I was immediately able to make acquaintances and had a great three days. Wasn't Warhammer though.

Well you went to a place where people have traveled to do something they enjoy and meet people they don't know.

Come back when you've frequented a local watering hole full of the people who live nearby, know each other and have nothing better to do.

>oh the horror, the horror
I know that situation too well, and there's no scape from it here

I think there is a 50% rule where 50% of each model needs to be made of GW parts.

Talking out my ass here.

Oh I know what you are talking about. I've been part of something like that when I was a teenager. I guess that's the case for most people who got into wargaming through Warhammer.

Currently we have a local gaming group that's just great in every way. We meet once a week, have our own room and a bunch of simply grown-up people. We have regular tournaments int he area aswell. So what I'm saying is, gaming groups around here are pretty great. Your mileage might vary but there's no reason to give up due to one shit group.

Not to stir the hornet's nest, but I think a large part of the recipy of success comes down to not playing 40k.

Iirc GW like, official rule was the model at to be atleast 25% official GW or forge world.

As far as I know, there are no official GW tournaments. The LVO is the closest thing I can think of, and as I understand they dont give a shit about thirdparty models, so long as they clearly represent the model they count as.

GW stores depend on the guy running it. Most of them are really just looking to see if you're spending money with them and will probably give you shit for bringing in thirdparty miniatures.

I always game at generic LGSs now. I bring in whatever I want and spend a set amount of money at that store when I start feeling like a free-loader.

There's no official tournament and you shouldn't set foot in a GW shop if you can avoid it. So, there's no problem with third party bits as long as the model is still identifiable as what it's supposed to represent.

Any good conversions for SoB to make them less ugly? Preferably without being fapbait.

>conversions for being less fapbait
You're failing at life, son.

Only at official GW tournaments, which are pretty sparse nowadays.
Depending on the manager in question and how much outside stuff you use, you might not be allowed to play at a GW store, which honestly is pretty fair.

Honestly, with them being metal and all, you're better off waiting for plastic.

You can get female heads for conversion here:
statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8774376/sma301-heroic-scale-female-heads.html

Sure, just remember to represent the human form like the Emperor wanted.

Thats pretty low.

>and you shouldn't set foot in a GW shop if you can avoid it.
Arent they the only retailer for warhamner stuff?

No. Most hobby stores sell GW products. And they sell them at a ~20% discout too.

Probably a case by case basis. Using conversion kits? Probably fine. Got one random model you're using in a full GW army? Long as you're not literally shoving it in everyone's face, and going on and on about Warmachine, and how fun it is. Full 3rd party? That's gotta be a no. The reason for those tables is for you to be free advertisement. If you're sitting in McDonalds and eating out of a bag of Burger King. You're just hurting the business at that point.

Most GW managers are cool, and get it. If you're not a total tard in their store, and you're at least spending some money there, they're not gonna care too much. The ones that do don't last. There was one shop me and my friends all rolled in to, fully ready to drop some bucks, and when, in passing, the word "Warmachine" came up, and I just said, "yeah, it's fun but different. I prefer how Game's Works-" then out of nowhere this manlet black shirt runs up, sshhh-ing us, and "You can't talk about that here! Get out!" wut.jpg Homeboy had a total shitfit and had us leave. He got canned a while later, but it took a good year for that location to recover because of it. Everyone knew not to go there.

Are those bits plastic?
I want to deck my Eldar out with some female heads since I highly dislike most of the eldars helmets (and because dawn of war, the game that got me to play eldar, pretty much only had female voices so for me they were all basically female).
I don't want to deal with metal bitz :/

They're metal, I'm afraid. I slapped some of them on Cadian guardsmen (which mostly works, though they chunkiness of the base model shows more) and I had to add blu-tac to some of the bases to stop them toppling over.

They're good heads, though.

Not necessarily bitz, but I'm pretty happy with this stuff. Going to use them as carapaced up bodyguards for a rogue trader house. The range is pretty huge, though, and compatible with GW's guardsman kits. They've got some good options for steel legion, Valhallan and DKOK looking troops.

My hobbystore said that at least 60% of the model should be official or something.

It's kind of sad, because you want your stuff to look neat but you can get disqualified just because it looks like you aren't paying enough money on GW stuff.

I really wish there was a good plastic alternative, I haven't gound one thou :/

Do you bring McDonald's into Subway then sit down to eat?

Raging heroes, but they're probably still six months away from retail.

They're some seriously cool models but good lord that's just too much. And I thought FW/GW was expensive.

Those look really nice

I once did. Even used their wifi.

Any supplier that makes cheap low fantasy figures?
That could be a goldmine.

Reaper. Their bones range has pretty well everything.

Thats the shit.
Why is this the first time I'm hearing about this?

Fucking hell m8, these chainspears are making my dick hard. If I already didn't have most of my CSM with the default close combat weapons attached I'd buy a whole box of the fucking things. I might buy one of the power spears for a character though. Thanks for linking these.

You've got most of the ones I use, I'll add a few more though.

ramshacklegames.co.uk/ - Great for resin tanks and artillery. Also some pretty good squats.

antenocitisworkshop.com/ - Infinity stuff, mostly, but some very nice tonks.

warchimera.com/en_US/index - Terrain and some snazzy chimera conversions, also some conversion bits I haven't tried

brother-vinni.com/index_eng.htm - Mostly porn, but there are some decent guard characters (Gaunt, Cain and Bragg, for example. Also a bunch of fallout stuff)
