Where all my transhuman niggas at

...

What happened to the EP players?

There were never any EP players

That would require there being EP games

They all got vouchers for a helicopter tour of Argentina and I haven't heard back from them.

I've been in EP games. Good times, had to quit because of college. I miss those guys more than I miss my ex.

...

>playing Ultimates
I SERIOUSLY hope you guys don't do this.

The devs are cutting the Ultimates from the list of suggested player factions because they don't want to encourage "playing fascists".

Most players saw this SJW faggotry and jumped ship.

I'm suprised they still allow the player to play the Jovians.

They don't, do they? Jovians aren't featured in the core book except as antagonists afaik.

They still have a couple options for playing Jovians, the Jovian Spy, Jovian Diplomat, and Jovian CBeat Specialist

The Ultimates were a suggested player faction in the 1E rulebook?

Yep! They were a mainline protagonist faction.

Yeah, they were one of the primary factions that was suggested.

Well, that's kinda shitty.

Yeah, you can definitely tell that the writers were anarchists because they have a tendency to call factions they don't like fascist.

Well they literally wrote the Ultimates as space fascists so that's not really that bad, but removing them from the playable factions is pretty shitty.

In the original core book they're more like gnostics or ultra-transhumanists. They don't seem particularly fascist until you get to the supplemental material.

That's apparently what they said though, that since they started taking the Ultimates into a more fascist stance later on with the supplements, they didn't feel like they should remain a PC faction.

Why draw the line at Ultimates? There are factions even more authoritarian and aggressive. The Jovians are literally a fascist military dictatorship and you can play them.

>that picture
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Ballistic forensics are a meme.
The only thing that ballistic forensics can show is twist rate, approximate number of lands, and very roughly the barrel length. If your lawyer has a pulse, its meaningless.
It's basically the same thing as saying "hey, the murder wore nikes between size 10 and 14 that weren't brand new. Therefore you're the murder because you own at least one pair of nikes that fit that description".

>tl;dr
That picture is retarded 'artist' cancer and forensics is most pseudoscience.

>literally a fascist military dictatorship
I feel like this is a bit exaggerated, they're technically a democracy with rights and stuff.

What the fuck is wrong with you

I mean im getting around to running an EP game. Think i need a few more players though

The basic premise is the server is based off a bulk hauler in the belt. Since server are designed around specialities they are going to be doing nothing but deep space ops

>they're technically a democracy with rights and stuff
They're a democracy in the same way contemporary China is a democracy. The people vote for their representatives from a list of pre-approved candidates but the guys on top never change. The Jovian populace doesn't have a say in whether or not Monica Contreras stays in power.

Yeah, fair point. Still, I feel like this is a bit unnecessary on EP's part. A lot of people in flats would be naturally scared of transhumanism after the Fall, they don't need to make the Jovians fascist to keep them human.

Huh. Figured Jovians would get canned first if anything.

At this point I'm honestly expecting some half-assed supplement saying that the Jovians accidentally blew themselves up or all died from cancer because they hate technology so much

The problem isn't that they are fascists. Eclipse Phase is all about diverse political ideologies. The issue is that the bioconservative factions have been treated much less generously in comparison to the political groups the writers personally agree with.

Yeah, that's more or less what I meant by that. The only bioconservative factions we've seen so far are the Jovians (space fascists), Minervans (space pirate fascists), the occasional independent habitat (but no named or described ones), and somewhat the LLA (space terrorists)

I think it makes sense for the bioconservative factions to be incredibly harsh and totalitarian. The literal apocalypse only happened a decade ago and recreational 3D-printed suitcase nukes are a thing in this setting. I'd be pretty scared too.

I think that's a bit weird though. A lot of people probably just want to live a normal life. Where are the habitats full of bioconservative liberals, for example? Like free love hippy types who want to go back to nature instead of raping it.

Anarcho-primativists are a thing in the setting.

They're not portrayed in any real detail though, and their bioconservative elements aren't thoroughly explored.

I guess, but honestly I would think that the Jovian's would be more libertarian (with the exception of transhumanism). Like sure, ban transhumanism, that's fine, but why can't you have freedom of speech and freedom of the press? Why can't you have the right to bear arms and due process? Why can't you leave the nation?

Just because you ban transhumanism doesn't mean you need to turn into North Korea.

Because the authors are retarded ancoms and don't want to think that a political ideology they dislike could have redeeming qualities.

I'd be more forgiving of it if it was literal North Koreans or the Chinese government that was enforcing fascism on their people, but it's the fucking American military with American refugees that's embraced fascism in the setting. I find that unlikely.

>I find that unlikely.

Except Jovians are literally Trump's American in space.

Isn't the JR composed mostly of Middle and South Americans rather than the USA?

Well memed my friend.

See It's all South Americans and Mexicans. There are barely any North Americans in Jovian space at all.

I'm pretty sure it's mentioned that it was partially founded by the US military in exile. They have a habitat named Bush after all.

They're just named after popular right-wing leaders. The devs just couldn't remember enough Caudillos to name them all after them (and most are).

>The Americans, Russians, Chileans, and the Chinese all had significant presences in the system

>The Americans, as part of a joint venture with other Western hemisphere nations, particularly Argentina and Chile with their major spaceports, had substantial ship-building and deep-space manufacturing facilities.

>In the weeks and months that followed, many of the top military and political players from the Western Hemisphere were evacuated to the secure Jovian facilities. At first, this was seen as a safe place to wait out the chaos on Earth, and many came by ship. As the situation on Earth deteriorated, numerous VIPs used emergency facilities to egocast out to Jupiter—or at least transferred backups in case they never escaped. The US government sent several cabinet members, senators, and high level military officials, along with the heads of state for four Central and South American nations and a number of other military and political dignitaries.

The US definitely has/had a presence in the Jovian system.

Why does Eclipse Phase get a lot more attention on Veeky Forums over Transhuman Space? And why do those seem to be the only options we have for transhuman sci-fi?

There's always Nova Praxis.

I know literally nothing about the setting and there seems to be very little information online about it.

You can download the PDFs pretty easily. It's basically an alternative to Eclipse Phase in the Strands of Fate system.

Not much to say except that it's more of a traditional transhuman setting without the heavy anarchism focus and weird space magic bits.

Most people in flats didn't make it through the fall, but the LLA has a lot of those people as well, and is an actual democracy.
>LLA (space terrorists)
Dude what?

Live free hippy types who like nature were generally on Earth, where the nature is.

THS is a setting which doesn't really have anything to do which jumps out, so it's a lot harder to figure out a game for it than other settings.

>Dude what?
Not the LLA itself, but the PDF does mention that the biocons in the LLA are known for their terror attacks and bombings on transhumanist facilities.

I don't think that's beyond the baseline level of terrorism though. Anarchists blow up capitalist shit, (JAC and others), Biocons blow up bodybanks and resleeving clinics, the PC and MSC blow up each others stuff frequently, and Titan sneakily backs their own terrorist org. I guess the Argonauts don't very much, even if they open source nanoweapons and suitcase nukes.

Where do I find a group besides running it myself?

Roll20 or your local FLGS.

>I guess the Argonauts don't very much, even if they open source nanoweapons and suitcase nukes.

Thats exactly what the argonauts DONT do.

I have been permaDMing for 3 years now the same game.

I just can't escape it, other games don't have the focus on technology and a certain sense of hard-sci. Now I only see science fantasy everywhere and can't fucking stand it, to the point that I can only accept 3 kinds of games; EP, traveller and something done in GURPs that I will have to read with extreme prejudice.

>accidentally let it slip out that I think there's only two genders
>entire hab votes that I've threatened their collective safety with my horrific hate speech
>all my backups are deleted and I get thrown out the airlock
Such is life under glorious anarcho-socialsim.

*anarcho-socialism

Frankly, I'd still play an Ultimate, even if they re-write them to full-fledged Space Hitler, because everybody in the setting is insane.

The Planetary Consortium is insane. They waste resources selling "fashion" and "fads" and planned-obsolesence to propaganda-saturated citizenry in the name of "profit". Which would be fine if they weren't already RULING THE WORLD, which makes those kinds of profit schemes completely pointless! Since they already control the government and economy, it makes no sense for them to do things that are inefficient and waste resources. They live right beside the planet that fell to robot apocalypse, and yet I see a disturbing lack of interest in preparing for further threats.

The Morningstar Constellation is just like the PC but with better PR. The LLA is just like the PC but with nostalgia.

Extropia is insane. Using private militaries and so-called "insurance" (aka Extortionists) for police and "law" isn't freedom, it is warlordism. It would cost more, and with worse results, than simply having a small government with a mandate to keep the peace and enforce contracts.

Jovians are insane. Genetic modification for health and longevity, when it has been so tested by billions of humans already, is only common sense, and "brainpeeling" being any better than any other kind of uploading is nonsensical. Supposedly they are Christian conservatives, but I think the author both hates Christians and knows very little about them.

The Titanian Commonwealth is insane. You know what people would really do with Kroner? "invest" in those microcorps that promise to reward them personally. There can never be such a thing as a "social money", people are naturally inclined to acquire recources for themselves. Those who do not would quickly lose out to those who do, even in a reputation economy, because the rich are more liked by others than the poor, since the rich have the resources to be helpful, charitable, and attractive.

While we're at it, the Reputation Economy is insane. We already have a system that rewards people for doing good things for others: it is called money! The idea of basing a person's wealth on the upvotes and downvotes on their social media profile is barbaric and evil. Haven't we seen enough of the harm caused by mob mentality on the internet?

The Anarchists and Scum are insane. A mere ten years after facing near-extinction from robot apocalypse, they are expending tremendous resources on pranks, post-modern "art", and finding more exotic ways to fuck each other. Meanwhile, they conduct terrorist attacks on the PC for keeping slaves, while being allied to Extropia (which keeps slaves). For all their "socialism" and so-called post-scarcity economy, they waste countless morphs for "fun" while billions of people are stuck as informorphs or in cold storage waiting for a body. They aren't post-scarcity at all: they have an aristocracy of "people with Rep" who hoard the scarce resource of physical space and bodies, and waste loads of it on conspicuous consuption while calling it "creative expression". Despite the author's efforts at portraying them in a positive light, they are the worst people in the setting.
.

The Ultimates are "facists" because they consider all other factions trash and unworthy of ruling the system. Looking over the other factions, the Ultimates appear to be right. Self-improvement, technological advancement and military preparedness is the only sensible reaction to recently losing a major war against ASI. Sure they have their odd quirks, but if I were a person in the Eclipse Phase setting, I'd be joining the Ultimates in a hurry, because who else is there that is worthy to be an ally?

You're playing the game wrong and would you please not support it from now on?

Honestly I'm really curious how the devs are going to change things while fueled by Trump hate.

Considering the number of different morphs, uplifts, etc. This setting is really one of the few places where I would agree that there are more than two genders since everyone gets to be their own special snowflake.
