Dead Suns NEVER EVER

I want to play a xenophobic, distrustful, sharpshooting space elf and marry a humble, handsome, conscientious space human!

That's aerodynamically unsound. Your waifus should be painted on.

Unchained rogues and maguses are very very likely to run with a Dexterity focus to the exclusion of Strength. I know people do it, people say so here, I just don't see how carrying capacity supports it.

I guess I'm looking at, how do people who play these things optimize them? Mithral shirt seems a given. Do you get expensive weapons in mithral too? Are we not even supposed to count the 5-10 lbs of clothes worn ingame?

Muleback cords.

+ A masterwork backpack. Does wonders in unison.

Those examples don't all out dump Str typically, they just leave it as a mediocre stat they don't really touch. Also those aren't really straight up martial classes.

Masterwork backpack provides +1 to strength for carrying capacity, costs almost nothing.

>Is CHA actually a useful stat for a solarion

As far as I can tell, the build below is the single most powerful solarian build for actually being a strong and durable combatant, starting from 1st level. I have already explained the troubles with being a pure-classed solarian in , and so it is time to patch those problems with some old-fashioned optimization.

• At 1st-level, you are a generic "tactical pike and hidden soldier armor" soldier. You act first, you run up to people, you stab them, and you threaten them with attacks of opportunity.

• At 2nd-level, you gain +1 damage. Hooray.

• At 3rd-level, your mobility sharply increases as you gain Stellar Rush. You should ignore the bull rush function in almost all cases. You should instead use Stellar Rush for unparalleled melee mobility.

• At 5th-level, you gain a major upgrade to your raw melee damage from Plasma Sheath. You start combat with a move action for Plasma Sheath, and then launch into a Stellar Rush. You also gain Enhanced Resistance (kinetic), making you quite durable.

• At 7th-level, you open up combats with a move action for a Plasma Sheath and a standard action for a Corona. You now have a passive aura for damage, and anyone striking you will suffer damage. Also at this level is when you might want to drop the tactical pike and start to use your solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal.

• After that point, the build is mostly yours to piece together. Whether you will prefer your solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal or a high-level two-handed advanced melee weapon depends on your specific level and what you have the budget to afford.

• During this process, you completely ignore the existence of Black Hole, Supernova, graviton mode, and almost all graviton revelations. Why bother with them when you can stay attuned in photon mode for the raw damage and other benefits? Photon zenith revelations, on the other hand, may be worth it from time to time.

Guys, stupid as fuck idea for ya. A magus spell, see, it's evocation. It does this:
>Pick an energy type when you cast the spell from Acid/Fire/Cold/Electricity
>You get a free touch attack upon casting the spell, and can make this touch attack 1 time per caster level
>it deals 1d6+(0.5*CL) energy damage per touch attack as a 1st level spell
>a Magus is explicitly allowed to "recast it" any time during the spell's duration without needing to spend another spell slot, in order to use spell combat to get a bonus attack
>still has to make a concentration check to do the "recast"
It has a Greater version that's a level 3 spell which does 1d6+CL with the same 1 touch attack/CL, and additionally bestows a +1 bonus on any attack roll made with the spell per 7 caster levels

What do you think of the build below, then? One way I can see it being improved is turning it into soldier (blitz) 3/solarian 17, although I am unsure myself of whether or not that would be truly optimal overall.

could you please use pastebin.

I don't understand

Hey does Pathfinder have rules for running people down in a kinda on foot chase event?
If so what are they?

Yes. Just search the PFSRD for chase rules, or check Curse of the Crimson Throne part 1.

um.... strength checks....

Why are you building for a level your character will never reach?

You could make one of these.

How would this build change with a level 5 start?
That's been speculated as a decent starting point for non-APs as well as potentially adjusting APs, due to skipping a large portion of the gear "gap" that exists, and giving you your first ASI.

>mad STEMcel with his hyperfocused degree while big brain life scientists are masters of all living things and even cooking too

Have fun with the grunt work intern

That link looks so sketchy

The weird way CC is staggered, the gain is actually just as much as the pack weighs until certain values.

I want to marry a Drow!

We missed you.

It's from the last thread and Discord approved.

But now the Elves will hunt you across the Galaxy!

And they won't know why!

I dare say that a soldier (sharpshoot) 19/solarian (solar armor) 1 build is optimal.

The solarian dip provides a ranged soldier a handful of useful class skills (including Perception and Stealth!), +1 AC from solar armor, and +1 damage from photon mode.

Would anyone else agree that this is a good investment?

Feel free to cut off the build wherever you see fit. The "peak" of the build, so to speak, is probably at soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 6.

If the game *starts* at 5th level, then I would say the best possible melee character is a soldier (hit and run). You want to make melee attacks as often as possible, and so you perform mobile full attacks via Nimble Fusillade.

If you are dead-set on a solarian, however, a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4 would be perfectly serviceable. You could open combat with a Plasma Sheath and a Stellar Rush and then deal consistent damage from round to round.

But now Drow are big weapons manufacturers! I want to marry the heiress to a vast warmonger forge!

And what if I do not want to have a blitz level?
What does the increased access to items of potentially IL 7 do to the solarion's progression?

A regular Drow, or a Space Drow?

>And what if I do not want to have a blitz level?
Then you will be struggling with MAD to a degree, and you will be staring at a completely dead 5th level for the solarian.

>What does the increased access to items of potentially IL 7 do to the solarion's progression?
Solarian 6 is what nudges up the damage of photon mode and Plasma Sheath by 1 each, and what grants Corona.

>I'd probably have 2 rolls for inaccuracy (direction and spread) at anything smaller than a skyscraper. The threat of collateral damage and criminal penalties with no results should keep my players from using it.
>On the other hand I can have players make saves or have a round to find cover if they're aware they're being bombarded with space weapons.

FUCKING PAIZURITARDS. HOW do are you incapable of aiming at something smaller than a skyscraper up close when you can shoot down micromissiles from miles away? How do you go around promising nothing but "no results" and everyone-in-jail-forever and then promise results to the NPCs in the next sentence?

Paizo raped the pooch to death by refusing to address the two scales interacting properly.

Space Drow, of course.

...

Weren't space drow the ones with the porn?

Yes, and they're very visible and prominent weapons manufacturers.

The ability bump doesn't help much?
I was speculating that you could start with an array of something like 16 str, 12 dex, 12 con, and 12 Cha, with your bump putting them to 18, 14, 14, 14
As for the item level question, I meant more for available items to potentially synergize with and/or contend with the manifestation options. If there is a particularly attractive suit of light armor in the AL+2 range for example, Solar armor could be quite the nice pick, whereas if you want to conserve money that would be spent on a IL7 melee weapon, solar weapon might be a decent pick as you can devote more of your starting (considerable) WBL on the vastly expanded item options available due to starting at 5.

Soon we will drown in Macross and Star Fox bamboozles, fellow pilot

But there's so much more than those out there...

This is how I mechanic.

Space drow make porn and guns? What the fuck I love evil spider matriarchies now

>I was speculating that you could start with an array of something like 16 str, 12 dex, 12 con, and 12 Cha, with your bump putting them to 18, 14, 14, 14

For a human starting at 5th level, consider the following for a soldier (hit and run) 5, or a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4, before themes:

• 1st Level: Strength 16, Dexterity 14, Constitution 12, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10
• 5th Level: Strength 18 (upgraded to 20 by personal upgrade), Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 12, Charisma 10

The character is now more durable than an equivalent solarian, and even has a little more Will.

It helps that a 5th level character can spend 3,910 credits on vesk overplate I, which grants a whopping +9 EAC, +11 KAC, +3 maximum Dexterity bonus, -2 armor check penalty, -5 feet, and 1 upgrade slot.

>As for the item level question

For a soldier (hit and run) 5 or a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4 with 9,000 credits to spare, I would probably purchase:

• 3,910 credits: Vesk overplate I
• 3,100 credits: Armor upgrade, jetpack
• 1,400 credits: Personal upgrade, Strength +2
• 475 credits: Pike, tactical (yes, really; it is still cost-effective, and your other items give you durability, mobility, and raw accuracy and damage)
• Remaining: 115 credits

You might not have much for any ranged weapon beyond the cheapest of the cheap, but then, even if you did purchase one, it would most likely do little against the enemies you face.

You've missed the other thread where someone actually went full stormwind on touhou.

I'm almost considering getting a new account - my old one was lost to a ten year old email service dying off.

Purple skin, guns and ho's?

I literally don't know what things the other anons are making references to but this sounds 100% perfectly logical and believable that drow in science fiction would be specialized as a culture in guns and porn.

Let's talk about magic for a second

Are the schools of magic similar in Starfinder as they are in pathfinder? what does an example spell looks like and, for my own sake, what sort of druid like spells are there?

But not but us remembers them

Except for that singing guy. Who uses speakers as a weapon?

Do you groom your familiars and animal companions?

All of these dips come with +0 base attack bonus, alas, which makes them less appealing for a soldier or a solarian.

Of course, you're supposed to groom a horse!

I noted that you kept Cha at 10 yet again.
If one was interested in playing a single classed solarian, how would those stat layouts change?
Maybe solar weapon would see use, with heavy armor and less of a dex bonus? STR18, Dex 14/12, Con 14, int 10, wis 10, and Cha 14?

Why wouldn't you?

He's a bird. He's got his shit together.

>cockpit

Definitely not Nekki Basara that's for sure.
He only uses those to give fleets orgasms.

It's hard to imagine me playing an animal themed character who didn't give a shit about his/her animals. Like if you have animals that only show up in fights, a la SNA spells, then I'd understand. And if I picked a familiar over the cooler things you can have instead of a familiar, you bet your ass that it's a) my friend, and b) smart enough that it grooms itself and would be insulted by my attempt.

Only if I have a lot of downtime. It's usually just much easier and more convenient to cast prestidigitation.

Calling on the power of the Braves here.

The best part Mic Sounders the 13th (that's his full name) is an American Mech in the GaoGaiGar seires

youtube.com/watch?v=jdLRbhpWYiI

/pgg/ is going to meme Orbital Frames into any game involving Mecha

If I was absolutely, positively dead-set on playing a single-classed human solarian starting at 5th level, I would probably go with Heavy Armor Proficiency, solar weapon, and the following before theme:

• 1st Level: Strength 16, Dexterity 14, Constitution 12, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10
• 5th Level: Strength 18 (upgraded to 20 by personal upgrade), Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 12

Enhanced Resistance (kinetic) should be the 5th-level feat, thereby locking out Extra Resolve until 7th-level. However, a pool of 3 Resolve Points should get the solarian through three or four combat encounters each adventuring day.

• 3,910 credits: Vesk overplate I
• 3,100 credits: Armor upgrade, jetpack
• 1,400 credits: Personal upgrade, Strength +2
• 475 credits: Pike, tactical (yes, really; it is still cost-effective, and other items grant durability, mobility, and raw accuracy and damage)
• Remaining: 115 credits

I would then drop the tactical pike in favor of the solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal at solarian 6.

Bear in mind that the "champion" build of the solarian prescribes prioritizing Strength, then Dexterity, then Constitution.

The best part was what he did with that fucking bridge

And then there's the part in gaogaigar final where Mike Sounders plays the golden gate bridge as his instrument in a battle.

webm unrelated.

GGG final was fucking great

Just a note for you: Gravity Hold can't lift anyone more than 5ft off the ground, which may preclude using it to move someone off a cliff or "20x20 flying platform". Black Hole also fails utterly if there's a solid object in the way, like a hand-rail of some sort.

Interesting.
Very well then.
People have been speaking of perhaps homebrewing a rule to make the Solarian more competitive with other classes.
If the manifestation options gave you CHA to attack/damage and AC/saves respectively, how would this build change?
Would changing one stat to be dependent on it make Charisma actually worth being called a core stat on the solarian? And if so, which would be the more solid choice? Swapping your STR and CHA scores to get cha to your attacks, or balancing your stats out a bit better to make good use of the additional AC?

Yes it was. It has sadly been my only experience with GGG though.

On my first visit to /m/ they had a download for the episodes, this was waaaaay back when, before Veeky Forums even existed because I am an oldfag. shit I remember when Veeky Forums had a loli board

I do not see a good mechanical reason for a melee solarian to bother with anything but Stellar Rush at 2nd, Plasma Sheath at 4th, and Corona at 6th, ignoring the existence of graviton mode, graviton revelations, Black Hole, and Supernova.

Of course, I also espouse that every solarian should also dip a level in soldier (blitz) as their very first character level.

Are Xenogear/Saga mechs okay?

yes, yes it fucking was.

I'm referring more to the guy in the paizo forums arguing that a graviton solarian is a great melee controller that will guaranteed beat the soldier on round 3.

youtube.com/watch?v=yctKSEjtIVc
>tfw this song starts playing
>you just know the heroes will win
>but at a great cost
;_;

So, like, we got confirmation the link's okay?

>If the manifestation options gave you CHA to attack/damage and AC/saves respectively, how would this build change?

Charisma to all saving throws is totally extravagant by Starfinder standards. However, using Charisma for AC is weaker than using Charisma for attack rolls and damage rolls, as the latter dictates direct offense.

I would have solarians use Charisma for their attack rolls and damage rolls, regardless of their choice of solar armor or solar weapon, but I would also implement an anti-dipping mechanism of some kind. I would also improve the low-level solar weapon to 2d4 damage.

Just download it, you sledge.

Only if you post high resolution versions of them

I like Escaflowne ones better.

God it would be fun to do an Escaflowne campaign.

This charisma would be in addition to the Dex bonus, not as a replacement.
Would this combination of increased resolve points and being hit far less make for a good Cha/Str split frontliner, in your opinion?

That part where he punches Palparepa while starting up the chant to Hell and Heaven

Have you ever posted a repeat touhou image?

Then I guess I just have to wait for my physical copy to be delivered tomorrow.

I hate your decisions.

whoever decided that this was a good idea needs to be dragged into the street and fucking shot. they could have had any cute critter instead of a fucking rat. a ferret, a bunny, a squirrel, guineapig, praerie dog, kitten, monkey,

What do you have against rats, user?

They're a bottom of the barrel option for animal races.

Then make up your own. I think the Ysokai are fine

>a bunny
Yes please.

VIERA STARFINDER HOMEBREW PLEASE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Okay but rats are actually goddamn interesting.

Pathfinder already had ratfolk though, why did they need a "NEW!!!" race?

Campaign When?

>No cow
I hate you and everything you stand for.

Because you don't have to be "ratfolk" in space. You can be ratlike aliens, like a proper fucking science fiction setting.

Hello.

Aren't they going to have rules for making your own alien races in the bestiary type book coming out? You can make your furry bait then.

>Muscle bound space minotaur

Lewd games are assured with their presence.

Isn't that literally this game?

ratfolk in my campaigns will now be otters
