After the "End times" (comicbook tier apocalypse wank for Old World) the planet was razed to oblivion by Chaos. The after some time new Mortal Realms© were born because Magic. They're infinitely lare, but not.
The inhabitants of these realms happen to look like those of the Old World because reasons (they didn't want to start bew range from scratch, so only ditched some half of the old). Oh, and Sigmar and some of the popular characters in the old game are living gods now.
Then Chaos fucks up things again, Sigmar (the old Empire's founder and protector, who is some bearded dude now living in Celestial realm) holes up and after building his forces for a long time tries to conquer the Mortal Realms back from Chaos.
