The Age of Apostasy takes place in an Imperium we're more familiar with. Things have been going to shit for a long time, bureaucracy has basically ground everything to a halt and people live in a nightmarish dystopia. Yet despite all that there was a breaking point where people said "Holy SHIT enough already you crazy fuck" and actually rebelled against Terra.
