Fresh thread, just as nice as a fresh coat of paint.

Here's my wip for the day. This little gem showed up much to my surprise, I wasn't expecting it till the middle of next month!

...

>know im getting warhammer quest for xmas
>going to spend boxing day assembling stuff
>just discovered that im out of glue
damn

Got it from a company called "m3gamingstudios" and it's nice and solid. What's nicer still is that they're out of canada so their money is weak and it was super cheap. Here's it providing some much needed cover.

posted this the other day and I've not had a chance to do anything to it since. Just looking for some advice/comments on what kind of detailng/accesories would look good.
Also trying to decide whether or not to add some tassets

And I finished my paint test for the first set of the chameleon metallic colourshift paints from greenstuff world.
All of them are very thin, so I don't know how you would manage a thick coat with them. The paints are designed to work with a black undercoat. The ones that are clear out of the pot don't show up on brighter colours very well due to that. Something somebody else can explain better.
All the necron warriors were undercoated black, zenithal and white, and hit with a gloss medium. They are old and I barely removed the extremly obvious moldlines etc. You can still find a lot, I know they are there.
I used an airbrush to apply the colours, without thinning them further. Flow improver and better precision wouldn't hurt.
Using a brush works as well, but it takes quite a bit more time. The paints dry pretty quickly.
First up Burning Gold.

Next up Cobalt Blue.
This one does not show up on white too well.
Also, the models aren't grainy, it's my cameras fault.

Psychotic Illusions
Quite an interesting colour change.

Toxic Purple

Celestial Azure

>zenithal and white
zenithal grey and white - or just white?

Considering the color still shows similar to the black, I imagine it's black with a white zenithan for the middle model, and white for the right.

Oh wait - did you mean left is black undercoat, middle is black with zenithal white and right is white undercoat?

Nebular Copper

Left is black
Middle is black, 45° gray and white from the top
Right is white

Pretty interesting colors, thanks for your testing mate! I think I like Copper, Azure und Illusions best, and always prefer the middle one.

A different test. The cloak was redone black with brush on primer, no gloss coat. In the middle normal burning gold. Left, burning gold with abbadon black air, right with white scar air. 3:1 of burning gold:other. I think this was still too much of the other colour.

Interesting look, I personally prefer the pure black (perhaps a few more coats to intensify things), but I'll admit that the Zenithal primed model occasionally looks really nice as well.

merry christmas /wip/

Merry Christmas user.

Merry Christmas all, but especially a Merry Christmas to my SS that arrived today!

We got a rather nice wooden cigar box it came in
Spanish sweeties, Spanish Christmas treats
A ton of basing stuffs
Barbarian model in blister,
Metal Saruman from LOTR
And a nicely painted 40k model... but we're going to come back to him

Here's the nice note

And here I tried different black undercoats, as well as painting over the applied colour burning gold.
The model originally had the same kind of zenithal highlighting as the middle necron. The shoulders were hit with a mix of abbadon black air and a thick gloss medium. The arms and blade just got the normal colour. The probe was added to the model later, and brush on primer was applied to it. Upper left arm and lower part of the probe had gloss medium applied to them. The cloak got a few layers of black ink thinned with thinner gloss medium.
It looked the best, so I tried what I would usually do for a gold. Wash with seraphin sepia, recess wash with druchi violet, highlight with the same colour and then I mixed burning gold with runefang steel air 1:1 for another highlight. It would look better had I done it properly, instead of a wet drybrush.

In general, the colours are very dependend on light and the undercoat. You can have the model look rather different by having a different light source shine on it. This was something I couldn't show off with my setup. Burning gold looked like a green gold quite often for me and I had the feeling Cobalt blue is only purple with the wrong lightning.

Well, they are meant to be used on black and I did the other stuff anyway. I couldn't really get them more intense. At some point it just felt as if I was adding useless layers to it.

Ok... now here is the nice Deathwing Terminator my SS painted up... except... hang on a second, it's literally exactly the same model my (different) secret Santa from 2016 sent me, out of the entire GW range from the last 30 years, both assembled and painted up literally exactly the same model to include in SS? I cannot even begin to conceive the odds of that happening Coincidence? Or a Christmas miracle? I can't decide!?

Thanks my dude, much appreciated, Merry Christmas

That's pretty cool. They both look great. Deathwing best wing.

I love how warm the gold tone of the cloak becomes as the model rotates, that looks really great.

Finished a present for a friend.

The cloak and other largely rounded surfaces are probably best for these colours. Which is a shame, because they could have been fun for blades and the like.
I will use some of them on models eventually, but unlike these test ones. I wanted to do those properly though. No idea when I post something with the colours used as part of a normal miniature.

Same, I have both sets here, but it'll be a while before I can use them.

That is some radical shit.

>those ww1 french helmets

where did you get those?

Fucking sexy stars and shit.

>most people put models in the fridge for a better photo
>this user used the microwave
you are a visionary user

Sorry user, but I don't own a microwave, just this simple set up.

That's a pretty rad Necron I must say.

Mad Robot Miniatures!

Ayy wip, I've been wondering: Are there miniatures of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill? I need to know for reasons y'all understand.

What's a good way to practice with greenstuff?

This is my test model for some Squigs I'm painting for my wife. I haven't done much non-airbrush work ever, really (the bulk of my painting experience is airbrushing ships for Firestorm Armada), so this has been interesting. I have the other four basecoated up and with a few layers on the blue already, but yeah.

...

That looks pretty dope I might get some.

I don't feel like looking for it, but there was a guy in wild west exodus confederate army, who was exactly bud with double minigun. Or maybe i am just obsessed.

Can't think of anything that jumps out at me.
But between the ranges of Black Scorpion, North Star and Artizan I think there should be some stuff in there that'll work with the right paintjob.

I didn't think I was going to get much this year except maybe some money as I'm very hard to buy things for and could pick my own stuff up, where I live has absolutely nada in the way of models except for a GW, small lgs and a small aisle in hobby craft. I'm staying with my brother this Christmas due to me being very unwell and he is near a lot of model shops, so we went and looked in I think 8 of them over the past few days trying to find something that'd cheer me up, wasn't looking promising at all (I was trying to find a challenger 2 but they were all sold out.) Then on an unrelated hunch in a different city for a different reason I found what I can only call an alladins cave of a model shop, the walls were tamiya, takom, italeri and everything else you could think of and yet I still couldn't find my challengers, so I was about to leave when I spotted something very dusty high above my head, something I've been after for years but could never find or if I did it was a horrendous price - the Galactica, and it was what I assume is its original cost, very low. I was about to go again and mentioned in passing to the owner that it was a shame he didn't have the Pegasus and low and behold he pulled out another box, they're under the tree now.

It's a blog post but to me it's like a Christmas miracle finding something like that when I'd given up hope completely and didn't think I'd have anything to unwrap, never done kits other than gw and fw before but I love spaceships especially the nubsg design so I'm giddy as all heck.

Merry Christmas /wip/

Thise honestly look ugly as sin to me. But merry christmas user, it's great to see people accomplish little dreams of theirs.

What's a good white spray primer? I've used a cheap car primer from a hardware store but it's so fucking inconsistent I have to learn how to use it all over again every time.

Merry chrimbo everybody, hope your paints are thin and your brushes sharp. I got my package a little while ago but haven't been able to post it until now. I didn't think I said if i liked Orkz or not, but i found the inspirational messages scribbled inside heartwarming. I got some bits, some brushes, and a pile of candy, thanks user!

Wow fuck me. My airbrush ate it today, I tried filing a claim for it's extended protection plan that I purchased for it with square trade. They declined me saying "No you broke it with an accident so it's not covered" and since I didn't as it wore out I called them, their call center drone in what ever country he was from hung up on me when I told him I can't send him pictures of what's wrong with it, it's the functionality. It doesn't spray anymore and the trigger gets stuck. "Oh sorry, can't help you" Click.

Sorry to blog post, but REEEEEEE

I can't think of what you could do to a brush that couldn't be fixed; you step on it or something?

No, just a lot of use. I'm pretty sure it's rubber gaskets have gone. Which I can replace once I can track replacements down.

I'd just swap the entire valve assembly myself (depending on your brush, they might just sell spares as part of a single assembly anyway). Worn valves = worn everything else.

Muh first fully painted Kans.

The treads are from some mini-tank drone thingy a friend gave to me.

>snotling or gretchen on bases

wicked

Bump

What do you want to practice sculpting?

Hair and fur have very different techniques than hard armor or flowing cloth.

I want to replace a Master of Rites' laurels with chaos icons and maybe add more spikes to his halo speaker thing.

Mix it.
Sculpt shit.
That's basically it.

If you lack the vision to come up with original sculpts just pick one you like and try to copy it. That's a standard art test to see if an sculptor meets the company's demands btw.

>I was about to go again and mentioned in passing to the owner that it was a shame he didn't have the Pegasus and low and behold he pulled out another box, they're under the tree now.

Did the owner look like this, by any chance?

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines!

>Secret Santa 2016.jpg

Thank you thank you thank you QLD user

To the user who sent me a USB flashdrive full of Eldar porn, thank you.

Also received plenty of bits, some historicals and a pair of kriegers!

I can only get so erect.

Can anyone tell me what colors were possibly used on the taurox? I tried to recreate it on the side of the turret of the leman russ but I can't get the shade just right. It comes out too grey, but there's no GW paint I can see that matches the blue-grey of the taurox. I used a blue wash and got it close, but the base color is eshin grey, and is just too grey. Any help?

...

Can you give me a rough guideline of how you did it? Looks like some of the green was freehanded, but did you use an airbrush? Also, nice spattering of white.

It's actually really easy to do. Black basecoat followed by airbrushing really dark green on one side and dark blue on the other, leaving a bit of black around. Then start stippling successively lighter blues and greens around, being careful to have a pattern, but not a perfect one. If that makes sense. Then load an old brush with white and flick it with your thumb, trying to hit the lighter areas more than the dark. If you get a big drop, make some beam lines on it.

It could all be done by hand, but the airbrush just makes the first couple layers easier and faster.

he looked like this.

I've been busy with Christmas prep: thank god that's over.

Glad it got there, Adam! Just in time too! I'm glad it seems like it fits in pretty well with your grand schemes. I've been thinking about outfitting the old wardancers to a Mad Max styled troupe, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with them (AND, as the April Fools on Parade event no less?! I am honored).

We use the terms "bogans" as well. My neighbors are horrific bogans. Fuckin' dropkicks, mate.

Do you know what Abu El Banat means?

- A. Nomiya

About done sans transfers and some clean up. Went back to finish this after initial demotivation following botched primer job. Filed what I could of the chirurgeon kit smooth - decided it was too risky to attempt to strip the small bits.

It can't be perfect, but I don't hate looking at it anymore.

Is this the right backpack for my man here? Got him second hand.

Yes.

Thanks

>find all my old paints and shit
>christmas eve
sometimes, for a brief moment, I believe.

Did the first round of highlights on the green backpack "wings", gotta go back and tidy up with castellan before moving on to my final highlight. Really liking how this dude is coming along so far

I really like the recipe you used for the white, I've got some shadespire golden bois in need of a nice white cape and would love the recipe if you wouldn't mind sharing

>buckets

Might as well share pics of the golden bois since they're WIP as well

Sure! I did ulthuan grey straight onto white undercoat, then for the recess shading I thinned down nihilakh oxide, that technical paint used for verdegris. It actually works great as a wash, gives a nice cool tone, and can easily be wiped off wth a finger if you get outside the recess. Then just edge with white scar.

Oh, bro these are looking hecka sweet. I love their armor and that shield.

Btw I think Duncan does what I was talking about with nihilakh on Magnus' groin cape.

Just started back up after 20+ yrs.
Do it.

There's so many well painted minis in this thread. For me, it's hard not to find them inspirational. Merry Christmas WIP!!

plz give a closer up

I kinda meant in magic or something along those lines. I've already started (last time I did this, I was something around the age of 13) and the improvement is pretty nice

Whats the small shield from?

That's usually a cult icon so I imagine it's greenstuffed.

I wonder how hard it could be just to GS the cult icon into a flat circle.
I'm always tempted to do some kitbashes with the GSC Hybrid kit but I'm not sure how far away I can get from the cult symbols and the creepy desiccated 'nid skin. Sucks all the dudes aren't wearing gloves.

looks like one of the little shields from cataphractii set

>about to say "but user, the Cataphractii set doesn't have rondels/besagews"
>realize I just never put them on mine after a google search
Fucking god damnit, where the fuck did I put those bits then? I could use some small little shield doodlies.

Haha, I completely forgot about them too until I saw that.

got some blu tack and added some accesories to the waist just to see if I could cover up how uneven everything is, I think this could work.
I don't think I'll be able to keep the pointing pose and give him a storm shield though which is quite upsetting

Looks fucking great user, what chapter is it? who says you cant? he could be hiding his hand from Tzeentch

Secret Santa control poll, Christmas edition.
Throw your answers boys.

>tfw haven't got mine
Anyone got a Califag in the 94538 area code? Initials should be M.E.
I've been busy and I haven't had time to lurk /wip/ this month so I'm sorry if I've missed a previous post of yours.

>tfw I got banned for replying to a roll thread
Aupakanon, I got the pelt, I love it, dunno if you're gonna see this, but I hope your Yule is fantastic

I legit forgot it's gonna be 2018 in a few days. fuck.

Here's a Landspeeder I'm working on to keep the thread moving.

Got fifty bucks to drop on my new hobby. Don't need minis, I've got a whole start collecting box to work on. What are some less obvious essentials a new WIPer should look into? The ones I know I'm missing are a hobby knife/flash-remover and green stuff.

They exist, even literally.
stronghold-terrain.de/en/products/dead-man-s-hand/dmh-collectibles-1/
Buddy and Nobody in this range are Bud and Terence.

I'll assume you mean of the model. Only have this pic pre preming. The one time I'm too lazy to put my instagram in the filename.
For the user in the last threat that was unhappy with his easy to build redemptor, this is why I said you fucked up buying that version.

hobby knife, buttplug, blue tac, brush cleaner, basing material, maybe some new brushes and primer?

Merry Christmas /Wip/
