Sup /swg/, I'm looking for Epic advice for X-wing.
Besides the quintessential Triple Harpoon loadout on the Raider, what is a good way to load it out?
Since that new Epic FAQ dropped and said that Maul is no longer kosher on the CR-90, I no longer have to live in constant fear of a "look at me rerolling every die" CR-90 coming to fuck my shit up at PS 12.
I’m wondering how I should be loading up a Raider now- Are any non-Ordnance Tubes loadouts viable?
Should I try double or even triple Turbolaser? A pair of Quad laser cannons and an Ion Cannon Battery?
What combination of 3 from Ion Cannon Battery, Quad Laser Cannons, and Single Turbolasers is good to put on a Raider? For a reminder, the Raider keeps 1 Hardpoint in the front along with the main gun (4 dice, range 2-4, spend 2 energy to shoot it again) and 2 Hardpoints in the back. It’s firing arcs look like Pic Related, with an overlap at 2 and 10 oclock that lets you shoot with both front and back.
How do you loadout a raider for a specific role, besides "take a bunch of Turbos and go fuck up other Epic ships"? Is there anything that can outlcass Harpoon Raiders as a raider build?
I know I posted this in the last thread, but I got nothing.
Thomas Rivera
I want the D, even if the IN is the most aesthetic TIE
John Kelly
I tend to fly lists in X-wing of 2-3 generic-but-elite pilots escorting something (either an ace or a support ship) or just a big squad of generics.
A pair of Defenders, or a pair of SF's, has given me good success. Defenders in particular, with their great Time-On-Target.
When they inevitably buff the TIE Interceptor by saying "every interceptor gets PTL without taking a slot+some First Order refit to match the one in the hologram in TLJ (TL+Shield) ", a pair of Interceptors could e pretty damn good too.
Also, the TIE Interceptor is sexy as fuck. Defender looks pretty cool- I'm wondering if there could have been some differing wing design to make the TIE/SF look cooler- Would they just make it a TIE Aggressor?
Kevin Gutierrez
>I want the D That goes without saying, user.
Jayden Campbell
You know the answer, user.

The TIE Interceptor. You can't beat the classics.

This guy has gotta be 12 or something. This is bio I'd expect to see on GaiaOnline when I was a teenager, or something.
I know adults are perfectly capable at writing bad character bios as well, but this just kinda has that "young, inexperienved roleplayer" feel to it.

Now if the Republic's Army, in Canon or Legends, hadn't been a Clone Army, and had instead been an army of regular beings, would they have survived the conflict with the Separtist and their allies?
It seems like the Clones themselves were barely holding the line. The technological edge is also clearly in the CIS's favor.
Christian Davis
I'd think so, especially if the clones were retained as a highly-trained and well-equipped shock force backing up a large conscript army, which is what the stormtroopers were supposed to be in the EU. A single planet producing mere millions of clones never sat right with me for a galactic conflict even with Sheev pulling the strings.
Isaac Young
There were planetary defense forces that theoretically made up the bulk.
Owen Lopez
Well, on the one hand, the clone army had the advantage of being trained from birth to carry out their role, which most likely helped their efficiency. Plus, they most likely had better unit cohesion and cooperation considering that they all originated from the same genetic stock, had extremely similar upbringings, and a natural brotherly relationship.
Meanwhile an army raised from member worlds of the Republic, especially after 1,000~ years of no major warfare, would be a very time-consuming process, especially when it came to organizing all of the units together, and obtaining appropriate warships to fight space battles and carry troops to their destinations. For most of the Old Republic's history (assuming we're talking Legends), the Republic Navy was the only fully-organized military branch. There wasn't really a formal Republic army until after the Jedi Civil War, where the Republic decided they were a bit done with getting steamrolled by every Dark Lord, Mandalore, and Dark Lord again that decided to say "Oh boy, here I go conquerin' again!" And that method didn't seem to work so well when it came to massive organized forces like the various Sith empires or a horde of zealous Mandalorians.
On a point-for-point quality mark, the average Republic levy soldier would most likely be more skilled and intelligent than a B1, but also more susceptible to morale than clone troopers, most likely.
I feel like the main advantage normal recruits would have over clones is numbers, since there's only so many clones you can pump out from one planet, whereas levy dudes would be coming from thousands of worlds. But they'd also be less organized, most likely not as well trained, and probably even operating with equipment at a lesser grade than the clones as well.
Con't
Connor Bennett
That said, there was likely also planetary forces that joined the clones in fighting when their worlds were threatened by the CIS, which helps make up for the "lack of numbers" the clones have relative to a levy-raised military.
All that scatter-brained thoughts together, I feel like the CIS would have been more likely to win if the clone army had been a recently-raised army of normal recruits instead. Like you said, the clones often seemed to have trouble holding the tide against the Separatists despite their (presumably) superior training and organization compared to a normal military, and they also had the benefit of local militias supporting them by being on the defensive while the clones focused on offensive attacks, or joining the defense if a particularly large CIS push was a threat.
Caleb Russell
but then, Grand Rusemaster Of The Five Winds Sheevy P set the whole damn thing up, so if there wasn't a clone army, he'd have been like to do something else to shore up the republic, or else sabotage the future confederates in some way to keep it even enough for his master plan
Jordan Perry
It can probably be assumed that Palpatine is taken out of the equation, otherwise the question would be moot to ask.

He could influence the militarists to push harder for a stronger Republic Navy, perhaps. Or to establish some sort of selective service analogue that allows a vast conscript army to be raised and organized rapidly.
Dylan Young
>He could influence the militarists to push harder for a stronger Republic Navy, perhaps. Or to establish some sort of selective service analogue that allows a vast conscript army to be raised and organized rapidly. I could see something like a network of pro-republic paramilitary organizations (tarkin, perhaps?) with vastly more ships than they can actually crew, so as to act as cadre when it's crunch time
Eli Hill
That's pretty much exactly what Ranulph Tarkin did with Eriadu's planetary defense forces and the surrounding systems' fleets, he made himself into a sector warlord for a while with a much larger force at his command than what he had on paper.
Parker Perry
that's kinda what I had in mind, yeah, but something like Tarkin Jr being kind of an organizer of similar forces across the galaxy or at least the pro-republic bits of the outer and mid rims, as well as inheriting the leadership of Eriadu's forces who are the leaders of that movement, maybe mixed with KDY and others happy to supply their latest and greatest ships to these lads in absence of actual warring factions (that could afford them)
James Thompson
The issue I'm seeing is that Triple Ion doesn't actually do damage in significant quantities. I get putting at least one Ion cannon battery on the ship,(to stop stuff from being able to go past you easily) but 3? Won't that result in stuff with shields fucking you?
2xTurbo+Ion maybe to hunt big ships?
2x Quad laser+Ion, along with an Op Spec and a Tactician?
Easton Morales
Why not go with a triple Harpoon Missile Raider? 139 points base before you take the second crew gets you this abomination-
Ord Tubes 3x Harpoon Missile Ord. Experts, Thug Droids, Gunnery Team Weapons Engineer Impetuous Backup Shield Generator, Supercharged Power Cells. (You can replace the Cells- Should these even be Cells?)
That leaves 1 crew slot left- Good ideas include Tactician, Agent Kallus, Operations Specialist, Mara Jade, Hot-Shot Co-pilot, or Tarkin.
Pretend it's Armada- Get those sweet sweet black dice.
No idea on what the final crew should be though. Or what to pair with it even.
Luke Collins

>an energy field that may not even be present outside of the galaxy cares about the subjective notion that an authoritarian ruler is evil
The best interpretation of the Force will always be that it's a big, uncaring entity that can let you do cool shit, but is so far beyond the realm of comprehension and you are so insigificant to it in the grand scheme of things, the only direct intervention it carries out being to balance its Light and Dark aspects.
Jason Gonzalez
While I'm sure Palpatine had several different contingency plans he also had several people ready to backstab him. There's hints that Dooku wanted to take power, the Kaminoans had their own ambition to conquer the galaxy, the Geonosians hated everyone, Grievous was building virus bombs for himself on a level of devastation surpassing the Death Star, the Jedi were forcing themselves into positions of power, the Confederacy itself was made up of multiple business rivals all willing to betray each other at a moment's notice, and the Hutts wanted to profit off of the whole thing.
Getting a Clone Army under his command to keep everybody else from fucking up his plans/the galaxy was pretty much his only gambit. We like to think of Palpatine as Chessmasterlegend27, and he was to an extent, but I think had the Clone Wars not gone the way he planned, things would've turned out way differently.
Kaminoan ascendancy, Jedi dictatorship, Geonosian galaxycide, and a few dozen other possibilities.
Josiah Lopez
Luke, have I ever told you about the prophecy of the Chosen One? Once upon a time, the jedi believed that one day, a man will born, who destroys the sith and brings balance to the Force, but as it turns out, there is no need for the Chosen One at all. As it turns out, the Force actually wants the Dark Side to exist, and constantly balances out itself on the regular basis, constantly creating new, extremely powerful force users on both sides - sometimes, with no training or upbringing required at all! This means that if the sith are ever eradicated, they will just spring up again under a different name, and if the jedi end, a different order will rise in our place soon, and it will go on forever and ever.
All our struggle is meaningless, Luke. Nothing we can do will ever make a difference.
Isaac Lee
The Chosen one and Anakin's virgin birth were among the stupidest parts of the PT. You could cut them out entirely and nothing of value would be lost.
Parker Edwards
But Obi-Wan, haven't force users of the light and dark side been fighting for a very long time? And if the force has a destiny for all of us and influences our actions, it can reasonably be assumed that it has some intent to lead the galaxy to it's constant cycle of war and conflict? Our struggle is meaningless because the force will always default into conflict as shown by galactic history, not because some prophecy says so.
Aaron Lopez
see The OT is good beats evil only if you've never ever seen ANY of the additional material, be it EU or Sequel Trilogy. The ST's mistake is calling their Sith Not!Sith even if Snoke and Kylo Ren are very fucking obviously Sith.
Hunter Parker
Only now you realize that I was right all along
James Edwards
Huh? No. Destroying the Force isn't the answer, the Dark Side and Light Side need to co-exist, and often enough they're in conflict, but no one says they have to be in OPEN conflict. Cold War is best case scenario for the Galaxy.
Carter Wood

Alexander Adams
No no, ideological conflict. Instead of beating each other over the head with glowsticks, they're constantly debating each other and attempting to teach the other is wrong. Who says they need to be in physical conflict? And I hope by "co-exist" you mean "don't wipe the other out" rather than "exist in equal measure", because you should still probably be more light than dark, just recognise it exists and learn to live with it and resist it's influences in a healthy way - like how one resists stuffing their face with pies at a buffet by eating healthily rather than not at all.
Gabriel Morales
Bitch I’ll stuff my face full of pies next time I get the chance just because of you
Christian Fisher
>And I hope by "co-exist" you mean "don't wipe the other out" Yeah pretty much what I mean. Really it's how shit worked before Bane made it all about revenge. Kaan was kind of starting to get it right, all he had to do was make the realization that his war was pointless and agree to a settlement.
Blake Reed

Brandon Williams
How did he seem genuine? Literally everything builds him up as the spymaster, the liar, the guy who works from the shadows and never reveals his true agenda. The greatest threat that he has you chase in Act One is someone who can divine the truth and see through his deceptions. In Act Two he has you basically fabricate a war in secret while pinning it on his master. Then all of Act Three is you hunting him down for betraying you while he lies to the Dark Council about being the Voice of the Emperor. At what point, exactly, did this guy seem "on the level" to you?
Ethan Carter
I always figured he was building up some kind of "I'm going to betray you but you know that because that's how Sith roll" type deal. It's just the little things, it felt like every time he chastised me for something he would explain a little as to why or say what I should be doing instead, not just tell me I was wrong for doing it. I got the impression he did legit want me to do all those things to prove I was strong and get stronger so then he'd betray me in classic Sith fashion so I could murder him. Maybe I'm just super naive or my memory is shot in regards to Baras and why I liked him and the game itself; quite possibly all the above. Emotions are weird like that.

I was thinking about a non-Sith dark side philosophy that would keep some of its core tenets, perhaps even the entire mantra, but reject the whole "backstabbing your master/apprentice/fellow members for more power" and general petty cruelty, and instead have them cooperate towards something greater than the dark siders themselves but that is still evil.

I made it cause I needed it for my Technician Astromech Droid character, it has the tables for Melee, Ranged, Droids, Gadgets, Cybernetics and Armour.

Already happened. Brotherhood of Darkness/Krayt's Happy FunTime Club They were both shit. Sith philosophy simply can't into a large power structure of force users.
Jacob Foster
This sounds like a sales pitch.
Joseph Thompson
The Brotherhood of Darkness tried that. They failed so hard they were left fighting a guerilla war against an army of Jedi that wound up tearing the planet apart even before Bane tricked the Sith into committing mass suicide. Kaan was the only lord in the Brotherhood capable of keeping them together for longer than it takes to pronounce "Brotherhood of Darkness," and by the end his sanity had long since left the building.
