Beer

Can we have a beer thread that isn't just an arsepained autist spamming false flag shitposts?

Enjoying pic related right now.

Thanks for not posting XXXX, Tooheys, VB or Bundaberg Rum.

It's awful. Fourth one and it's still awful. I love beer, and I love bourbon; but in Separate. Fucking. Glasses.

The bourbon isn't even that strong in this stuff, which is why I liked the bottle I had. Super chocolate with some mellowed coffee, a little bourbon heat. The stuff was thick as hell too.
I've been chugging Oberon lately. It's just really refreshing and easy to drink. I also have always liked the label.

Wednesday = shopping = beer

Say, I live in yuroop and found a few bottles of KBS in my liquor shop, but with a 10€/bottle price tag. Is it worth it, or would I just be wasting my money?

It's worth trying. If you like sweeter stouts, go for it. Like I said it's a ton of chocolate and coffee, but no real bitterness from the coffee. The bourbon isn't super strong, but it works perfect imo. Too many barrel aged beers have an overpowering flavor from sitting in there too long, so I always appreciate a brewery that can get it right.

The liquor stores near me (vancouver, canada) have a decent selection of european beers. Grolsch has been on sale recently (1.69$ CDN, for half a litre) its a great deal and i'm totally in love with the beer.

Its alright.
Strong malt finish with balanced bitterness.
But its not quite as clean as I'd like a larger to be, there's a strong ester profile that I don't really like.
A solid beer 6/10, would drink again.
Clean up the esters and it'd be an 8.

Picked up a six pack of Two Hearted a few days ago and told myself I would get a single Oberon because a friend rec'd it. Unfortunately got cold feet when I saw it was a wheat ale and ended up getting an Edmund Fitzgerald Porter instead (one of my favorite porters). Bell's had a light blue label with a daisy or something on it that looked intriguing though. iirc it's their spring beer.

I liked this stuff a lot, but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't. I think stout and bourbon flavors complement each other well.

It's essentially a very good stout with bourbon flavor. If you like really good, strong stout, it's probably worth trying, but if you aren't at least a pretty big fan of stout, skip it.

have you tried strong, high-alcohol stouts and like them?

another based SA stout, unbelievable that it comes out of the same place that makes West End Draught.

KBS hasn't been good since 2012 before Founders did their huge expansion.

Had some of this a while back.

It was pretty tasty.
Decent flavor, not too bitter, not extremely hoppy.
Kind of a weird aftertaste, but it goes down really smooth despite being like 7%.

8/10

I always was curious to try Coopers' beers but I've never seen them in Canada.

You don't like wheat ales? Yeah that's their smitten rye thing. Haven't had it in awhile, but it's okay.

Haven't really tried any really high abv stouts, but I'm thinking of getting more into stouts in general. What makes it pretty tempting is I've been reading some good ratings about KBS and what with it being a sought-after product that I'm probably not going to see in a year, if ever where I'm living.
Founders breakfast stout is perhaps the closest to a high abv stout that I've tried and I really liked it.

Dutchfag here, Grolsch is GOAT. Proper bitter beer, you don't get that here much in macrobrews.

Currently drinking this to cool down a bit, also a very decent beer, nice and hoppy.

IKR
I struggle to find it interstate though and I'm currently freezing my arse off in Tassie

Duke's Cold Nose Brown Ale
Not too bitter. Easy to drink (even a few at a time). Hints of caramel and dark chocolate, with a nutty finish.

Very clean
Its dark for a larger, but not malty. Or hoppy either.
Lingering bitter on the finish.
And oddly it has a green olive undertone?

Not really sold on this one.
4/10
Could happily slam a few, but its not a sipper.

Ooops

>dark for a lager

do you even schwartzbier?

I love Cooper's stout. First tried some when this old 'nam vet gave me a couple stubbies coz he wanted a drinking buddy to listen to his war stories.

That's a thoroughly mediocre beer.

keep it in here

kys

I think someone is trying to meme

Wouldn't call it awful but it is tremendously overrated

Decent stout but it tasted as if they dropped a shot of whiskey into a stout, didn't mesh well with anything else in the beer

So... Uhh... How does someone become initiated into the craft beer world? I wish to be a craft beer enthusiast, it's the path I've chosen.

worlds best IPA reporting

shitpost_king.tiff

Got one of e-40s 40s. It's not great, very very malty. But then again I love Mickeys so if you like malty 40s give e-40's a try

Hey drunk friends talk to me

I don't get this. I thought the bourbon was subtle as fuck. Wasn't overpowering or underwhelming. Do you not usually drink barrel aged beers or maybe I just had a better batch?

It was strong but it was more so that it stood out on its own and didnt really go well with the coffee and chocolate if that makes any sense

if you live in a warm area, try sierra nevadas otra vez. cactus/grapefruit gose-style ale. tangy tasty

I also didn't have any from this year's batch, it was from last year

cheap and tasty. tastes like a stout

i think it's pretty tasty.

Would love to see more gose in general especially ones with some salt in it. I guess that's how berliners do it

>Gose
>Berlin

>especially ones with some salt in it

That would be all Gose, that's part of the style.

got a 4 pack of steel reserve 211 and some dude weed lmao. feels good to unwind after a feckin long day.

Never really tasted the salt like I did in Germany though

try the Otra Vez. trust in me.

IPA shitposting gets a giggle out of me for some reason. Probably advanced retardation on my part.

My favorite beer, which unfortunately isn’t very common hereabouts in metro Detroit bars for some reason, despite being a Michigan beer.

>Bell's had a light blue label with a daisy or something on it that looked intriguing though. iirc it's their spring beer.

I picked up a 6-pack of Bell's Smitten Golden Rye Ale when I saw it and while it's ok, Two Hearted is still my favorite.

Wish I could by just one or two beers instead of whole 6-pack, as it might not be something I like and I don't want to spend $10 to find out.

Really? I can't stand that shit and its everywhere here by kzoo.

>Really?

Yes, and all my friends like it also, it's our go-to beer.

>I can't stand that shit and its everywhere here by kzoo.

Annoyingly, far too many bars in metro Detroit have a limited selection of beer and frequently even if they have something like Bells, the bar maids / waitresses don't know it's available.

"What can I get you?"
"What kinda beers do you have?"
"Well, we've got Bud, Miller, Miller Lite..."
"Yeah, I figured. What do you have that isn't mainstream."
"Umm... We have Labatts?"
"OK, give me one of them, I guess..."

>What do you have that isn't mainstream

Can you guys recommend me some sours to try?

My favourite is Budejovicky Budvar, but I mostly drink Pure Blonde Ultra because my girlfriend likes it when I drink low-carb beer.

Did you have it recently? Because if it sat for a year then the coffee and chocolate probably faded. This year's blended really nice. The bourbon was subtle enough to add some heat and vanilla and that was about it. I didn't get punched in the face with it at all

Best beer in the world.

knocking back a few of these

This guy knows whats up. One of the best Kellerbiere, I personally like Zwick'l a little better.

>Ever had founders KBS? You probably haven't heard of it. They're this super small quirky little brewery up in Michigan. They make REAL beer, not this mass produced budweiser pisswater bullshit that the zombie masses of america insists on mainlining through their veins. Beer just stops being good after you produce 500,000 barrels per year.

>After Founders started adhering to the demand and nationwide popularity of their beer, my love for KBS unknowingly vanished. Sure, they use the exact same recipe year after year, and continue to make KBS in small batches to retain quality, but after their brewery expansion I just can't seem to shake the image of neckbeards across America enjoying the same beer as I once did in isolation. Now, I like to spread this erroneous story about how I enjoyed it years before anyone else and that it tasted better because of the brewery's underground status.

Kek

Just brought home a couple

Faggot

>That right one
What in the world

ugh had that yesterday and hated it, i'd much rather have the struis or ij-wit

So I've been working at an upscale bottle shop for about a year and a half. Get to taste just about everything that we get in every week. Got my first level cicerone exam a few months ago. I'm already burnt out with this horseshit. If I hear one more mother fucker say "This IPA has a nice citrusy floral hop character and a malty backbone" I'm going to have a shit attack. It's all a bunch of horse shit.

The profile for styles of beer are usually super similar, but one flavor is accentuated or they added in some extra shit like fruit or whatever. Being a "beer expert" is pretty fucking dumb. I love beer, but I wouldn't want to be forced into learning all that useless crap. It's almost common sense for anyone who's been drinking decent beer for over a year or two

Get fucked bros.

Gross

you know, i got some hacker-pschorr lager in cans (up in canada) and it was awful. maybe i'm just ignorant

Maximum cringe

I bet you say shit like "I'm going down to the store to buy some craft beer"

Now accuse me of being from the deep south and/or europe

>Track down Westvleteren 12 in my country
>23 bucks for a 33cl bottle

Isn't that a double?

>australian beer
>american beer

Stories?

Strange with the mango but still i like it! Lots of ashy tobacco notes in the back!

I kind of want to try Omnipollo's Magic #8

It is alright from what i remember, but lately the contract brewer they use for that one has had some issues. Lot´s of off flavors in all their stuff lately.

This brewery puts out some very nice core line stuff but also alot of what just feels like half assed attempts at a different style. This is the latter. Really tired in the hop profile and no punch at all.

The best session ipas still maintain a nice hop profile while scaling back seemingly only the abv. This just scales everything back!

Pretty good.

>Swedish
You should check out Danish breweries

I do and yes i prefer them often when drinking lighter beers. Omnipollo makes the best stouts out there though.

Liked it again today! Nice IPA.

I can guarantee you that stout in the OP has a longer unbroken lineage to older British styles than near anything in the UK.

It was like a lot of short stories, he used the word gook like it was going out of fashion, talked about calling in gunships on villages and how much he loved the M60 because supposedly the barrel would shake creating like a cone of fire.

Sounded like he enjoyed Vietnam quite a lot.

What kind of glass did you pour it in? Because it really makes a different for very boozy beers.

Actually just finished a 64 oz growler of this. Delicious stuff.

>talking to girl at work I like
>she lives in Wisconsin
>going to hang out with her this weekend and play Pokemon cards
>she goes out her way to buy me a 12 pack of this

Is this a good thing, bros?

I think anyone that buys you beer is a saint.

>$23
I paid $35 for mine

I remember when Grolsch came in a bottle with a real flip up stopper...

just turned 21 a while ago, gonna go to local bar and have no idea what to do or get. not really a drinker, but my friend is playin so fuck it.

>12-pack
She's a keeper

Veeky Forums please help me make a decision
this week I started working at a liquor store.
this is neat. I like this environment. there are things here that I enjoy, but I've always been a very controlled person. I have no inclination to become my own best customer.
however, today I noticed something that I did not expect because this is not a huge liquor store.
they have a bottle of Utopias.
this is not cheap. I have the money to buy it, but I will feel it.
In all practicality I probably shouldn't buy it. There's lots of more efficient ways to get drunk.
But this is unique, and very uncommon. I'm very tempted. What are your guys' thoughts?

I got a bottle of Utopias for my birthday a few years ago, but it sounds like each batch is completely unique, so I can't really comment on years.

It's meant to be drunk like a fine whiskey or brandy, not to get you drunk. Every liquor store I've been to in the past 5 years has had a bottle or two behind the counter, so it's not exactly hard to find, but I'd still pick up a bottle to try while you have the store discount.

My local had Fancy Pants on tap a few months ago. Shit was great.

still does m8, its just 50% cheaper in the can

No she should've gotten moon man
