VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' style scoring system. This means you, the people of Veeky Forums, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet your expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in appeal.

No.

The theme of the final round is...(like always)

"Signature"

make us your one signature dish, the one dish to blow all of your competitors out of the water.

While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

Only one will prevail! I will need a show of hands to know if this will be a cummulative score victory or a sudden death round.

There's a nifty "hide thread" feature. You could always give it a try.

Scorecard.

Can't say I'm quite okay with Nack getting first place with his super late submission...

There was 6 votes in for him. Not too too bad.

I am def rooting for Dice, I enjoyed his submissions a lot so far.

RIP Yellowcheat, you won't be missed.

Sorry friend but other priorities come first. This little contest is fun but work and family is my foremost responsibility.

As it should be.

oh ok its k then, i thought he got less votes!

Wait how am I supposed to vote for challenge goals when the round theme is "signature"?

Ha, that cheating cunt yellowfag is finally gone.

Finally a cancer free competition.

Just a lurker who doesn't vote. Dropped out in 3rd round because because. But I enjoy the posts that have pictures attached to them, and ignore the rest (sometimes I browse through the ratings that have comments).
Appreciate the effort and patience it takes to run this. Props.
I appreciate the effort put forth by the contestants too.
And the voters, mustn't forget them.
Thanks for putting up with all the bullshit!

>"Signature"
Starting to get exciting!

1 vote for sudden death.

I'm going to be very surprised if the Craigslist rants and raves tier of "trolling" ends.
50 somethings on disability with nothing else to do, or people at work killing time trying to stir up shit. It's just not very clever. Kinda feel bad for you desu senpai. Try spreading love instead of hate: it makes people insanely angry.
Now, call me yellowmug, or kiddo...

Reverting to lurking mode.

P.S.
Sunday gravy would have been my 'signature' dish. Braciole (beef flank and pork loin), meat balls with beef, pork, and veal.

Would have done a WAY better job plating if it was for a competition. The pasta doesn't even look like it was tossed in the sauce (it was) and it looks overcooked. Butt yeah, good luck guys!

Back to lurk mode for reals this time.

>Would have done a WAY better job plating if it was for a competition

Did you see the last round? Plating barely matters at this point in the competition. It's basically just a popularity contest at this point.

That looks pretty good.

the different pasta shapes are triggering me

same. I thought my eyes were fucking with me

Meh, fuck it. Who am I kidding? Drinking alone on a Saturday night... Can't handle just lurking. Drunk chatty cathy.

There was only one shape. I over-cooked them.

>yellowmug won't be missed

But your sole reason for coming to these threads was to shit all over yellowmug every time you had a chance to check your phone. Now you no longer have any purpose here.

>just a popularity contest at this point.
Well, yeah. Kinda. It's always kinda been like that.
But if it was JUST that, then (no offense, B) Borneo would still be in, as she is pretty popular here. No?
But plating was pretty shitty last round.
It's been a long run and I'm sure people are getting tired of trying to impress us. It's tasking.
Hopeful, and I expect to see some good effort for the last round.

ssshhhhhhhhhh...

Borneo is the only liked name left on Veeky Forums, but just seemed too busy with other shit this year to really do anything interesting.

I dunno, I'm still pretty fond of Anonymous.
That's what I use.
fml and niggeroni are close seconds.

Fuck off yellowmug, literally nobody likes you

fml would be okay if he didn't make his threads like an eternal general that's half blog and half pictures of cats.

Pretty sure niggeroni fell off the wagon and had his liver exploded.

One vote for sudden death

>a cummulative score victory or a sudden death round

You should do it Chopped style, where the final dish is the main thing being scored, but everything that was made before is somehow factored into that score.

I liked most of yellowmug's entries.

Which dishes did you contribute?

I mean, let's be fair, last round was party, so plating there I feel isn't gonna be as up to par as other rounds, when you consider most people weren't making something for an actual party, so it was a smaller amount of food they were trying to make seem bigger.

Bump

Yellowmug got totally shafted last round, which was kind of disappointing.

>inb4 shut up yellowmug, you're a cheater, nobody likes you, etc.

Not yellowmug, but I thought his entry deserved better.

I personally didn't like his presentation at all, and rather than making one main dish he seemed to just make a bunch of party food and then stuck them together on one plate.

Maybe it just went over my head or something.

>maybe it just went over my head or something

It didn't seem like a really difficult concept. Do you have potlucks where you're from?

I didn't really care for his entry at all. All the stuff looked old and stale. And the loaded Bloody Mary isn't a good idea. It's hard to eat and inconvenient. That sort of 'cheeky' dish doesn't play well.

Also the elements were just plain weird. No one wants to eat carrot cake while drinking a bloody mary.

It was the weakest dish desu.

>it was the weakest dish

Go to bed Eyepatch.

You first, Yellowmug

So you don't know what a potluck is, and have never been to a party where the food was served on skewers?

I thought it was clever.

I already told you why the dish was terrible, I'm not going to go over it all again.

But sure, no one 'got' your dish, that's why it got bad scores.

Hey man, I'm fully aware mine looked like literal shit. I got too stoned from/while making the sauce and ended up making a bad plating choice by pouring the sauce all over the chicken. It probably wouldn't of scored very well anyways. I had fun making the sauce, and it tasted a lot better than it looked. The whole reason I did this contest was for fun, and I had plenty. I was never looking to win.

Please just fuck off yellow. You and your pathetic samefagging and shit tier food are done. Retreat back into your basement now you waste of oxygen.

A final with four competitors? I think this round should be sudden death personally. Level playing field.

Three really strong competitors who I would be happy at seeing win. There is one who I definitely think is only in the final due to being boosted by the chummy generous sycophancy of fan voters rather than for the calibre of their food, which is pedestrian and not creative.

I mean, his presentation didn't look like or remind me of a potluck though.

It was skewers of carrot cake, pizza, and something else sticking out of a bloody mary, with some other stuff I don't remember on the plate.

It didn't look appealing at all, to me.

Dice! I'm rooting for you!
Steady submissions throughout, minimal faggotry.

And bubbles, loved my first time participating, cheers for organising, only point of critique is disregarding low yellowmug votes, but somehow still counting 20/20 yellowmug votes.

Nevertheless, good luck to all 4 finalists!

>only point of critique is disregarding low yellowmug votes, but somehow still counting 20/20 yellowmug votes.

Hear hear, but at least that cheating piece of shit is gone now.

oh fuck, the stakes are raised

will definitively try to not let you down

This is now my pasta shape of choice

I'm late to the contest as usual. Was there some sort of corruption going on? How are Borneo and Pyewacket not in contention for first place?!?! Was BubbleBurst BubbleBribed?!

Pyewacket didn't compete this year and Borneo was too busy to give her best effort.

It was a pretty normal year, except that someone decided to troll hardcore, got Thomas the train to drop out early, and then spammed all sorts of bullshit about yellowmug for the rest of the competition.

Otherwise it was Veeky Forums challenge as usual with some pretty good entries.

Borneo dropped out due to IRL issues. Pye didn't join this year.

No bribery. More trolls then last year. Sadly, this last sentence resumes mug of the board hear days. The wasoru archive should left you browse old threads if you want to inflict that on yourself. The blog has this year's entry if you want to see just the plates.

link to blog?

Thomas on rampage fighting off Federales while smuggling crispy chicken over the boarder.

ckchallenge.blogspot.ca/?m=1

It was stupid that Thomas got bullied out of the competition so early, and I thought he was one of the top contenders, but that did just give me a chuckle.

>CYBER BULLYING IS REAL

>implying thomas wasn't a transformer in disguise all along, working as a disgruntled postal delivery train in these times of peace, just waiting for something to set him on the inevitable rampage

Fuck off Yellowmug, everyone knows what a sad cheating cunt you are by now.

Bump.

none of these lads are very good at cooking anyway, no need to get upset.

Elimination should definitively be sudden death. Otherwise Dice and CookingRei would pretty much stand no chance. A 3-4 point advance is quite considerable and super hard to beat.

what's the point of a cumulative score then? its like having 2 people compete in the Olympics where 1 person wins 9 contests but loses the 10th meaning the 2nd person wins overall.

Should be Sudden Death as every other year.

The point of cumulative scoring was to fairly get the contestants to this end match. Now, it should be sudden death as per usual, one dish to rule them all.

I dont think the winners of each individual round really matter. The 4 remaining passed all 9 rounds so far.

That's retarded.

For the first half of the competition you could have literally entered anything and have been guaranteed to move on, simply because there was always people dropping out. I think cumulative score should be factored in somehow.

And if you did that in the second half, you would have been eliminated.

There's less than 4% difference between Dice and Nack, that's pretty much equal.

Considering cumulative scores would just fuck over the playing field.

>fuck over the playing field

God forbid people are ranked according to the worth of their dishes in a cooking competition. Let's just fuck everyone over instead and say to hell with what people earned. This is basically capitalism vs socialism. People bitching about how much others have earned opposed to having worked hard themselves and earning as much. No, instead we should hinder the work of the top few to give the bottom few more than what they have earned.

nigger, we're in the top 4 already. Everyone currently here deserves their place.
It's less than 4 fucking % over 9 rounds. 0.25 points out of 20 in average per round. Aka well into the realm of random variations.

If you consider the whole competition, the difference is irrelevant and shows pretty much no difference in skill or dedication. But if you count it entirely in the last round, you're fucking over the bottom two contestants completely. A 5 point disadvantage in a single round is close to impossible to beat.

If cumulative scores were so fucking important, they would have been used in all the rounds. Guess what? They haven't been.

Seriously, under your method, Dice and Rei have pretty much no reason whatsoever to compete. They would be at too much of a disadvantage.

>were in the top 4 already

You maybe, I'm just watching this shit and pointing out the bullshit, which this is.

We're as in the whole thread/competition, I didn't mean it as individuals.

As for ''Bullshit'' I've explained clearly why your view would fuck over the competition.

You can explain till you're blue in the face, don't make it right you fucking liberal shit.

>fuck over the competition

?? How is taking into account previous scores "fucking over the competition". If they didn't like it, they should've gotten higher scores throughout.

If we do it your way, the worst cook could win with a lucky dish. A higher sample size is always more accurate

>muh liberals

As I clearly explained (I'm guessing you ignored it while claiming >muh liberals), the difference is well within random variations and doesn't show great differences in skill or dedication.

If someone managed to get to the final 4, they've already proven that they are good enough to claim the top spot.

And if I had wheels I'd be a bike.

>doesn't show great differences in skill or dedication

Then they should be close enough to win. But as you said, they aren't. Which means there is a great enough difference to justify cumulative scores.

Once again, you seem to have ignored my comment.
A small difference on it's own doesn't change or show much. Multiply that small difference over 9 rounds and you get something that's totally unsurmountable.

0.25 out of 20 over 9 rounds = quite irrelevant.
5 out of 20 over a single round = impossible to beat.

How is that hard to understand? If we follow your logic, there is no point in competing.

Then they've gone as far as they can, just like literally everyone else in this competition.

Nigger, can you read?

We've got 4 cooks with extremely close levels of skills. That's the point.

Cumulative scoring will decide everything based on nearly meaningless differences.

Also, you ignore the fact that all the previous rounds have been sudden death rounds. It makes no sense to change it now.

>all the previous rounds have been sudden death rounds. It makes no sense to change it now

It makes perfect sense. All previous round scores were just to determine who won that round. The winner of this round will be the winner of the entire competition, so their scores throughout the entire competition should be taken into consideration.

>All previous round scores were just to determine who won that round.
And that's where you're wrong. Lowest round score decided who was eliminated, not cumulative.

Which is how it should be for this round too. Cumulative determines winner. Don't try and fix something that's not broke.

How am I wrong? Lowest round score decided who was eliminated just like highest round score determined who won that round. This is for the entire contest, so this time I think it should be cumulative.

>Which is how it should be for this round too.
>Cumulative determines winner.
These statements are mutually exclusive.

I've explained in detail why that way of thinking kills the competition.

Can you 2 just kiss and make up? Yellowfaggot is gone now, that's the main thing.

I've been lurking the past few rounds, I missed the beginning (real life has been crazy as fuck this year). Anyway, just want to wish good luck to the final competitors, you done good, guys.
Also, as far as the argument in this thread, I stand with sudden death. Cumulative scoring is for elimination purposes, the last round has always been sudden death, because now, in the final moments, it's up to the contestants to pull out everything in their arsenal. Hopefully I'll have time to check in and see what everyone did, (I'm basically playing hostess to a large group of Swedes and French people this week for work, so idk how much free time I'll have. )

Yes, you got yellowmug eliminated, so why are you even still here?

I came to the competition to enjoy it, not my fault he happened to be a cheating piece of shit. Scum like him deserves to be called out on it. Now i'm staying to keep on enjoying the competition :)

p.s i'm willing to bet you think i'm the same person as multiple other people i've seen shitting on him for being the faggot he was, but go ahead and quote some posts and i'll show you how few of them are mine

ok, i'll go first, i did it last night, just too tired to post. I haven't been able to do much of it this year, but i cook mostly cajun/french food. Its my jam. So for your consideration:

Lobster Etouffee with French Bread and a Mushroom Walnut Pate

this was my first time making a pate, and i'm definitely going to make more of it! i hate the texture of mushrooms, but love the flavor, so this was glorious!

Rei, that's awesome. You know how to hit me where it hurts, etouffee is my crack. The mushroom walnut pate sounds delicious, do you mind providing the recipe when you have time? I'd love to try it!

aaaand vertical. i forgot to mention in the vertical that i only used 1/3 of the dough for the bread, but i dont put the measurements, so i guess that doesnt matter...

Ah, thanks!

its not the same without you pye! and thanks! etouffee is awesome.

definitely give the pate a try. i'm going to have to bake another loaf of bread soon and destroy the rest of it.

Oh, I'm totally going to try it (once I have time to cook!)
I miss participating in the challenge, but unfortunately life has kept me so busy, I'm lucky I managed to catch the last of it!

>throw in your lobster meat and seasonings

What did you season it with? I think you forgot to put that part

You got a problem with Rei, brah?

No I'm just wondering what he used to season the etouffee

The dish looks delicious you're just being autistic. Fuck off troll.
