Food production is incapable of keeping up with population growth. Modern medicine and society has led to exponential growth in population. The amount of land on this planet is finite. This means that there needs to be advancements made to increase crop yield.

Most agricultural land goes to raising either animals, or animal feed
Monsanto exists to abuse technology to guarantee itself a vise grip on selected markets
All their propaganda about feeding people is nonsense
Maybe in 100 years after the fossil fuel industry's damage to the biosphere has rendered all current arable land useless, we'll need to use transgenic tech to ensure survival
