I've been listening to Nujabes a lot lately. It's been some time since I last spent most of my time listening to him while working.

mingus, miles, p glass, arvo pärt

Ravel, Stravinsky, Faure, Chopin

None, I can't just have music on in the background.
Also this, sort of.

Except I truly do believe that some composers had their music revealed to them by God.

Fucking this.

I listen to Chopin when I read fiction or poetry,
and various ambient albums when I read philosophy.
Though, I don't always listen to music and read. Sometimes it can be distracting from the work itself.

Crawl back in your cave, medicine man. You're not needed here.

Which pretend god revealed it to them?

how the fug do you block out the sound of words though?

Usually really static ambient/dark ambient, e.g.

Brian Eno
Steve Roach
Robert Rich
Pete Namlook
Windy & Carl
Sakamoto
Oophoi
Michael Stearns
Biosphere
Klaus Schulze
Vidna Obmana
Thom Brennan
Lustmord
Tetsu Inoue
Harold Budd
Robin Guthrie

etc.

That's only for general reading though. For philosophy or particularly difficult fiction I need total silence.
