How did he get to be so famous?

How did he get to be so famous?

Why does everyone seem to know Nietzsche when philosophers in general are mostly obscure figures cloistered away in libraries?

The really weird part of this is, he's never really been all that well embraced in academia. Most philosophy departments don't have a Nietzsche course like they do for say Kant.

Yet here he is, far and away the most popular philosopher ever.

because of his edginess

...

because people who are attracted to philosophy are people who are essentially insecure about what life is about and what to do about it and he's empowering and insightful enough to make even a v depressed person feel euphoric, even if it is only for a moment and he's vulnerable enough that you can't help but love him and feel like he's a mate who feels your pain more deeply than you and can express it more articulately than you and can find solutions better than you.

Having said this when it comes to practical real world application of what freddy says there is next to nothing.

But that just means you continue reading him for the motivational boost instead of doing things.

He's like a very edgy drug

most philosophy departments are run by jews

He wasn't systematic enough

He was more of a commentator of ancient and contemporary politics and society

As many have remarked before: had Nietzsche lived in 21th century he would be a blogger

>blogger nietzsche

uh they had shitloads of newspapes in nietzsches day and never once did he publish anything in any of them ever, unlike that slut marx, if anyone from the 19th would be a blogger today it would be marx

I said "had Nietzsche lived in 21th century he would be a blogger" not "had Nietzsche lived in the time that he lived he would be a blogger".

if neechee lived in the 21st century he'd probably be a porn addicted shut in

That's a highly questionable counterfactual.

I bet his fursona would be a dragon.

nope, it would be either camel or lion

So you admit that you made a baseless statement?

On the Road.
Walter Kaufmann.

No, I don't. But I do admit that the guy has poor reading comprehension, and that you are clueless about the meaning
of "baseless".

Sensibly, when people imagine a historical person in a present day context they base the speculated contemporary profession off the interests or occupations the historical figure had about themselves during their time. if I were to say, "if he were alive today Caesar would work at a hot dog stand," that wouldn't make sense, since I am not basing this speculated profession off anything he did in his lifetime, and therefore I would have produced a worthless, baseless statement, just as you did.

Churning out commentaries about political and societal processes and publishing them isn't a baseless attribution to Nietzsche. Contemporary bloggers, as did Nietzsche, do this.

Either you're ignorant of Nietzsche's work or you're still confused about the meaning of "baseless".

He published long form work you ding-a-ling. If anything he'd still do novels and publish them online as eBooks.

1. Artists love him, and he loved artists.
2. HITLER
3. He has an obscure idea and writes in an obscure style, so everyone has a different (and usually wrong) version of his thought.
4. MUSTACHE

I thought he was just an edgemaster, but was pleasantly surprised by On the Genealogy of Morals; once I'm done with Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling I'm gonna try Birth of Tragedy

>style, simple yet poetic (imo)
>edge, thought system is outside general audience but it tries to fit into society so it's struggle is ideal for anyone who thinks himself as something above normal-mediocre
>simple, again you dont need to spend much time to understand his thoughts.
>interesting, his edgy, inconstant, eccentric way makes him an appealing figure
>he isn't sartre

your a dorable

One of his first translators/scholars fell for Nietzsche's sister's attempts to label him as a proto-nazi and so both nazis and ant-nazis have paid him a lot of attention just off of that.

A lot of the rest of the attention he gets is due to Christfags getting butthurt about his characterization of them because they don't know how to point out that something's unfalsifiable.

>simple
I found his works to be quite dense, but maybe I'm just jumping into them without having a good enough background in philosophy. Or maybe I'm a moron.

OP-he lives as a hermit and had many peoblems with the way society was, why wouldnt Veeky Forums talk about him a lot?

>As many have remarked before: had Nietzsche lived in 21th century he would be a blogger
I doubt nietzsche would waste his time with the most throwaway ephemeral medium out there

he's dead for 5 years and his blogs are rotting in some obscure wayback machine, even if he will be remembered anyways it just results in his shit being printed to books

books can last for at least a couple hundred years and he was so focused on the long term that he wouldn't want his work gone with the wind with only brief snippets remaining like with heraclitus

and he wrote his books as a refined "definite" output unlike the day-to-day blogging where you just shit out what's in your mind at the time

Nietzsche would probably be a university professor like he was in real life. His shit wouldn't make it through peer review because SJW, he would self-publish and then fade into obscurity, just like irl

>prophesized the postmodern condition a century before it happened

>talks of making yourself an ubermensch
>no practical application

superman (the comic book) popularized his term, and superman is pretty popular, so he's famous by association

>muh eternal recurrence

Nazis

Freud

Sartre and Camus

>because people who are attracted to philosophy are people who are essentially insecure about what life is about

Why would anyone in their right mind feel secure about "what life is about?"

seriously though

what the fuk is going on lads?

>taking his quotes literally

>Why would anyone in their right mind feel secure about "what life is about?"

people who find the implicit meanings and direction given by culture to be enough

Not that that explains life well but it gives enough so as to not need to question too much for many.

As for what the poo is going on, i dunno

I'm not rei or icy.

i just wanted to make a big joke

>le eternal recurrence

whatever you've experienced in life you've gotten past it so there is nothing truly unbearable, and no matter who you are, provided you have an imagination, you can imagine something far more divine than your life.

So, the normal non-edgy faggot answer would be to just accept it and not think about it that much because even if you have to redo this over and over, you experience it as though new each time so who cares, it might as well just be one life

>the eternal recurrence as separate from an allegorical meaning

And is there any greater tragedy than the eternal extinction of a unique species?

The actual answer is because he 'influenced' so many people to extents of mention, many of whom were the bigshots of the late 19th and early 20th centuries

>OP-he lives as a hermit and had many peoblems with the way society was, why wouldnt Veeky Forums talk about him a lot?
He wasn't a hermit. He was more like a gypsy.

Ever read any of Henry Rollins' stuff? Twaddle, but powerful epic rock music to amp you up, then you go to the store and buy milk with pocket change. A 20th century version of Mr Overman.
I was encouraged to read Nietzsche as a humorist. Read that way he comes across as a satirist of all the nonsense and beer of his time and place.
The ONLY good thing i can say about him is he never despised the success he never had.

>there are people who think that eternal recurrence is anything but literal
You retards.

He's self help for pretentious people.

Hey there, wouter... Why don't you discuss his work on mythology, dollface?

wouter?

This

All of Nietzsche's points which are not pointless faggotry can be distilled into a self help book
