mostly sumo-deadlifts
but our training is mostly high reps 12-20 rep range

not really. most of a bike race is spent at 50% of full power, as they are commonly over 150km long. nobody can sprint at 70km/h the entire way. a rider must know the circuit beforehand to understand when to break from the main group of bikes (the peloton). then there's wind, elevation, rain, terrain, visibility; all affects the strategy and might even make it impossible for some type of body types to win at all.
on top of it all, multi-stage races like the grand tours are ran in teams. so someone may intentionally break away early to taunt others into following him and getting tired while other team members stay fresh in the back
