KING FITZGERALD

This book blows the tits off Great Gatsby. For a while there I actually thought I didn't like Fitzgerald.

Anymore based Fitz I should read?

All his short stories

fitzgerald always had goatly book covers

"Tender is the Night, magnificient; The Great Gatsby, terrible." - Vlad Nabokov

Though most people do seem to think it's Gatsby or bust, an average writer with a great book. I'll have to check out Tender is the Night.

I'm like 1/4 into this book right now and kind of bored

Fitz' prose is amazing though, almost unfittingly playful for his subject matter.

Babylon revisited is short and also regarded as one of his best

This Side of Paradise m8

i think fitzgerald himself thought it his masterpiece as well

Why did he have to rearrange the words?

Why couldn't he just call it "The Night Is Tender" or, better, "The Tender Night"?

fuck it just call it Tender

Because tender is the night is infinitely better

Prose so immaculate it's even in the title

Why is it better?

was 'Dick Diver' the inspiration for Pynchon's silly character names?

tendies 2nite

sensation not time of day is foregrounded and the syllables are front loaded to trail off instead of ramp up as the title is read

It floats better, it's not like it's grammatically wrong, so your 'complaint' is completely arbitrary.

What does 'floats better' mean? I don't understand.

I like it when adjectives come before the noun. Like in Spanish. It just feels more impassioned.

Why is it better that sensation is foregrounded instead of time of day? Are you saying that when Nathaniel West named The Day of the Locust he was screwing up? It should have been called Locust of the Day?

Yeah I never got why Gatsby was so popular when this exists. It's incredible

Beautiful and Damned is probably my other favourite Fitzgerald.

Take up your problem with Keats, Fitzgerald is just ripping text straight from one of his poems. What a hack

are you retarded
in that case the day is key , specifically the day of the locust

in this case the statement is the tenderness of night, not about night with an incidental adjective

Also, why is it better that the syllables trail off rather than ramp up? Is Henry Roth's Call It Sleep badly titled?

Why is Tender more important than Night in this case?

Say them both.
The night is tender is choppier, the syllables are iambic.
Tender is the night, floats off the tongue smoothly. The syllables are trochaic.

.... well Call It Sleep is all monosyllables ...

no, obviously there is no one rule, look at it for each title though

Tender is the night

The night is tender ... it feels agitated, it is an interrupted climb instead of a drifting off, it seems intuitive to me

Why is trochaic better than iambic? Didn't Shakespeare and Milton write verse in iambic pentameter? Aren't iambs the best suited for English poetry? I do not understand.

That the distribution of long and short syllables is balanced, and not awkward.

It evokes a different mood. The witches in Macbeth spoke in trochees.
Iambs sound like everyday speech. Trochees sound kind of darker or ominous. It also has a "downhill" effect going from stressed to unstressed syllables, and downhill flows easier than uphill.

Away! away! for I will fly to thee,
Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards,
But on the viewless wings of Poesy,
Though the dull brain perplexes and retards:
Already with thee! tender is the night,
And haply the Queen-Moon is on her throne,
Cluster'd around by all her starry Fays;
But here there is no light,
Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown
Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways.

keats can suck a fat one

Wow Fitzgerald was way better than what is in the gg.

>gg
i agree, gg allin was a master of english verse

I pull my pud until it bleeds
I masturbate on toilet seats
Girls can't give me the satisfaction
I fuck my fist to the rage of passion

I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
Fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself

I like the way it fits in my hand
Feel the cum through my burning head
I like to fly it on my chest
I fuck myself cause I'm the best

I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
Fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
And no one else

I love myself
I wanna fuck myself

I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself

I beat myself until I'm raw
Come and come 'till there's no more
My hand is my favorite whore
Stick my finger up my ass, beat it some more

I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
Fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself
And no one else
And no one else
I wanna fuck myself
I wanna fuck myself

"There Was This Night That Was, Like, Tender"
