>Queering Fat Embodiment is the first book to focus on the intersection of queer studies and fat studies, and promises to be a classic in its field. What could be more exciting than discussions of fat and queer fashion, desire, performance, cyberspace, and politics, as well as the fluidity of gender identity, bodies, and sexuality?
Well, what could?

Not sure if this is real or satire. It's like they're deliberately trying to advance the "fat lesbian" stereotype

I think the best thing about no longer being a leftist is not having to entertain this silliness
my face has morphed into a permanent devilish expression at this point

This has nothing to do with leftism, asshat.

Yes it does. This shit comes directly out of the left, and only the left is sympathetic towards it.

the supposed "real left" doesn't exist
enjoy your Islam and Queer Trans Intersectional-Xenofeminist Safe Space™
going to be a riot when these two eventually clash (though I think clash is a bit of a generous term)

...

>enjoy your Islam and Queer Trans Intersectional-Xenofeminist Safe Space™
implying anything islam related can be safe

but all decent art comes from the left.

There hasn't been a single work of decent art since the development of intersectionality.

Not really. Most great art is apolitical.

There won't be the need for a clash. Feminists don't reproduce (they hate it) and feed from a population that breeds below replacement levels. Their share of society will decrease over time all on its own, all the while paralyzing itself with absurd, inconsequential and trivial - but constant - critique. This war is already decided.

not true but neither is the post you are replying to

There's absolutely no stopping Islam, however.

even if that were true, who cares?
I can still consume and enjoy it like anyone else

Getting really tired of this meme.

Nope, not even close.

Are there specific arguments to be made that most artistic masterpieces have some political elements in them, or do you just buy into that bullshit that all art is political?

creativity itself is the dominion of the left, though. people on the right tend to be level-headed and rational, people on the left tend to dreamers and creatives.

I mean, how many conservatives are going into liberal arts, music or creative writing? This is always the way. You may hate the left but they're responsible for 99.9% of the art you enjoy.

I guess there's, what, Ezra Pound? He's the only counterexample I can think of off the top of my head, but even if you listed hundreds it would still be a drop in the ocean.

But it's not a meme. The right completely lacks any kind of creativity or original thought. It's been this way throughout history. The best they can do is become editors or critics.

no you're right i don't understand how art funded by the state can be political at all

if you were to espouse the values of any artist prior to modernity you would be labelled far right

That's why they're also known as "progressives". They progress over time. The point is they had the courage and vision to see the world as it could be, rather than as it is.

Applies to propaganda films, but not much else.

i don't even know where to begin with you

no you're right i don't understand how art driven by the profit motive can be compromised at all

who do you have in mind?

>progress
ahh I see how it is

Most of the real goofy stuff you see like "fat positivism" is a natural direct pathological result of capitalism. The separation of town and country which resulted from capitalism provoked a rift in the process of social metabolism. These type of mental illnesses simply wouldn't exist under conditions where a natural social metabolism was maintainable but that can never be the case under capitalism.

Feminism isn't a biological trait that's passed on genetically but an ideological phenomena. Liberalism can't be stopped at this point because of cell phones and internet porn and video games which Islam will fall victim to. Islam is actually dying in slow motion and what you're seeing in the middle east today is simply the last big burst of resistance like what happened with national socialism in the 30s.

...

>Feminism isn't a biological trait that's passed on genetically but an ideological phenomena.
most children retain the political beliefs of their parents
>Islam is actually dying in slow motion
except that young Muslims are more radical than their parents
Islam is not Christianity and you should not treat it as such

>Islam is not Christianity and you should not treat it as such

what are you gonna do about it?

The middle east was dominated by quasi-progressive/nationalist movements just 40 years ago before Islamism became a big thing. Islamism is just a response to grander forces at play which will change over time. Remember Islamists subscribe to a similar form of victimology just like "fat positivists" do.

Also all cyclical interpretations of history are flawed since we're dealing with fundamentally different underlying conditions which change, a 21st century caliphate can't actual be a caliphate but only a sorry mimic dealing with modern conditions.

>The middle east was dominated by quasi-progressive/nationalist movements just 40 years ago before Islamism became a big thing.

you mean before the CIA toppled their democratically elected leaders

'Islamism' existed from the very start

Islam like any other ideology can be morphed to serve whatever end you want it to
Muhammad used it as a weapon to conquer but it was used for extremely liberal ends as well as under the Arab empire of Baghdad:

who Veeky Forums here

Wagner? D.H. Lawrence? Dostoyevsky? Mishima? Carl Th. Dreyer?

>people on the right tend to be level-headed and rational

Bullshit. People on the right tend to be dumbfucks who fall for the scam of religion, reject science and rationality, and willingly hand over the fruits of their labor to oligarchs.

>fat studies is now a thing

Probably no one since this sort of bullshit is for /pol/ and by /pol/. Ok, so some retarded neolibs put out a ridiculous book, who cares? It's not Veeky Forums.

>You may hate the left but they're responsible for 99.9% of the art you enjoy.
How can you say this without knowing the art I enjoy?

And since the development of intersectionality, leftist "art" has been little more than formulaic kitsch.

Is there a greater joy in life than seeing the leftist struggle against the world?
Thousands of hours of work, financial sacrifice and excuse making, but in the end Chad still won't fuck you, Muslims still hate gays and Venezuela is still circling the drain.

Sounds like projection. Leftists have always been the ones to submit to religion and reject science.

I'm a leftist and I don't have to entertain any of this.

>muh left v. right cock waving
It's not about which side you're on. It's colors that really matter and the mainstream, lowest common denominator facets of both sides are just out to make you hemorrhage green.

OP here, sorry for making another shit thread but this one just cracked me up for some reason. Guess that's what happens when one is not exposed to a certain brand of silliness on a regular basis :^)
Y'all should know better than to click on these threads anyway

white power

Is that real? Holy fucking kek.

Btw, some fat activists/rationalizers for poor lifestyle choices staunchly reject that obesity correlates with poor health. Check out thisisthinprivilege if you want too see some pretty sick attempts at making extensive excuses as to why the negative effects of being a whale is the fault of everyone else than the person who simply cannot put the fork down.

feel like leftism has sort of reached its end point tbqh
they just take their old theories and see how far they can stretch them
they sort of tried to steal accelerationism from the right but it didn't really work out
I might be totally wrong though, any leftists out there care to show me something new and exciting?

>Is that real?
No, obviously.

I'm no rightist but I'm eagerly waiting the point where the right comes back into power in the US and Europe (the important parts of Europe) so we can shit on it too and go "this and that is because of the right! the left would do better"

'The left' and 'the right' are merely two heads belonging to the same neoliberal security state hydra. Any differences are merely cosmetic.

This. Everyone here is a socialist one way or another, the difference is whether you believe in welfare for businesses or individuals. Everyone wants to take, take, take.

So I've got a friend at uni who considers himself to be far left. He has a couple leftist friends he invited over one night while my roommate and I were drinking. For whatever reason, we get into a debate about morality and whether or not it's objective or relative. Now, regardless what your positions on the matter are, I would expect that your views on morality would at least be consistent with your other views.

These guys, all four of them, had no idea what they were arguing. They believe morality is relative, yet condemn cultural appropriation. They adopt relativist stances while simultaneously shaming those that act 'immorally.' Even worse, they were hesitant to admit *anything* wrong with Islam. When I asked if their mistreatment (to put it mildly) of women is justified, they all looked apologetic and said "well, as a white american, im in no position to judge their culture."

What kind of position is that? it's absolutely ridiculous. These new leftists adopt objective morality only when it can be utilized to bully people into conceding that buying a dreamcatcher is morally abhorrent. But forced genital mutiliation through Islam is fine. It's hysterical. And don't tell me that these leftists are rare, because they aren't.

entry level opinions tbqh
you eventually realise that the left/right dichotomy is generally valid, if ever changing

>4 guys from uni
>we were drunk
>they had no idea what they were talking about
Veeky Forums tier discussion irl

>drinking = drunk
I remember when I posted underage

what's the point of mentioning you were drinking then? I assumed.

Because relaxed conversation over a few drinks is a top-tier pastime. Not binge drinking by any means.

The utility of moralities in context is all that really matters. You can always use morality without believing in it. Morality is just a tool for accomplishing set goals... viewing it otherwise is just delusional. You can do this either consciously or unconsciously.

if you want to disagree with leftists it's important that you don't actually phrase your argument as a disagreement (esepcially if they are women, honestly just avoid talking about big boy subjects with them)
don't bother with statistics or pointing out their cognitive dissonance, they will either just dismiss you as a naughty boy with naughty opinions or confess that they don't know much about the subject but if they were to double down on leftist theory the answer would be hidden somewhere
I had a film studies class where I said that Schindler's List's ultimate goal was for Jewish control of the Holocaust narrative and the whole class thought it was profound
it's just 90% how you actually present your argument

In America at least, Politics are centered on increasingly vague identity issues rather than on actual attempts to change anything. Hillary and Trump are both for the same neoliberal model + nebulous calls for 'reform' that in the end will probably never materialize anyways.more and more, politics is about tribalised identity rather than 'truth' or concrete issues. See for example the pol kiddies who support trump to spite the SJW and because they think John Oliver is unfunny. Same goes for crypto-neoconservative popfeminists who support Hillary

look more SHIT

America's a pretty unique example though
I agree it's becoming increasingly tribalised but Hillary and Trump are quite different
while still being capitalist Trump is a pretty rapid departure from the neoliberal model

>nebulous calls for 'reform' that in the end will probably never materialize anyways

that's because they don't WANT reform

wow

woah

...

>fat studies

i mean

>while still being capitalist Trump is a pretty rapid departure from the neoliberal model
Don't look at what he's saying but who he's surrounding himself with. Someone who's taking advice from Rudy Giuliani isn't a departure beyond rhetoric. Remember George Bush campaigned on a more isolationistic foreign policy than the Clinton years but Cheney set the foreign policy in the end. Trump can't build a wall or cut off trade even if he wanted to because no one actually really wants that who could get it done.

>hand over the fruits of their labor to oligarchs

Sounds like you're describing taxation, which isnt really a right wing ideal.

Nabokov, Pound, Dosto, pretty much anyone pre 20th century.

Nation states cannot exist without taxation. The abolition of the nation state is a libertarian idea but not a "right wing ideal" in any sense because of everything it implies.

>If it wasn't for big gubmint we would have Jeffersonian utopia of independent farmers and craftsmen

this is what libertarians actually believe. Nevermind mass production, economies of scale, natural monopolies and let's not get into things like the possibility of private militias evolving into a neofeudal regime pls

ex-leftist here, same...on the other hand i might actually go to left forum for the first time in like ten years just for this year lol one of my jobs is in education so even though leftism is a silly farce it's good career wise to be able to spew resentful identity politics at the drop of a hat

underrated

Baudelaire, Céline, Dostoyevski, Pound, Eliot, Wagner, Drieu La Rochelle, Bloy, Goya and Cocteau.
