Tell me about that book you're righting, Veeky Forums. What ideas do you have? What is the characters/setting/plot like?

I have an idea for a book where this guy writes a book made entirely out of ideas he stole online.

I wrote 20 pages so far. it's Hamlet, basically.

i'm righting a reply to your shitpost

So far I have gay guy meets a woman whos a prostitute I have no idea what I'm writing but its coming out well.

Its in New York city.

Will be discussing identity and sex and loneliness. May keep it realistic may turn it into magical realism like Murakami, but I'm not really sure.

Do you live in NYC? I can't stand books about it from people who have no idea what it's actually like.

Long Island. I'm don't plan on keeping it in NYC entirely. But the city is going to be a big part and at least the beginning setting.

Like I said I don't really know where I'm going with this

Protagonist is a kid raised in a polygamist fundamentalist national-socialist doomsday Mormon compound ( as I'm sure there's at least one in America) . He's the only member of the sect to survive after the compound is raided by the Feds. The rest of the novel is a satirical picaresque road trip through a disintegrating North American landscape with mystical and apocalyptic undertones and a fair amount of gratuitous pornographic sequences

Is this idea personal to you? Were you a mormon once? Do you have friends who were? Have you studied about the Mormons? .If those don't apply to you this may seem like an entertaining attempt to reinforce stereotypes.

Unless you make the thing self aware to mock its very concept.

Are you guys typing or actually writing your books?

I type

I've been thinking of trying copy - writing with pen and paper. Everything else is on the computer.

I write first drafts on paper. Transcribing them's kind of a bitch but it gives you an extra chance to edit as you go.

Has anyone ever tried writing a book set in a military (like from the prospective of an infantryman). Modern or sci fi doesn't matter. Was playing around with this idea but I have no idea how much research I need to do in order to be accurate.

I type everything. Haven't written anything on paper in the last five to seven years or so (at least in terms of creative writing)

I don't think you can accurately without doing a fuckton of research or actually fighting

If you want it to be realistic the main thing you need to show is how monotonous military life typically is outside of combat.

Being in the military seems to be a prerequisite, although it's not 100% required.

>righting

First draft by hand, and then I edit on the computer. Writing digitally never made sense to me, words are far too easy to type, as opposed to being written.
Editing on paper is just annoying, though.

>Tell me about that book you're righting

I'm want Righter.

Is The Art of Dramatic Writing and The Art of Fiction must reads to become patrician.
What about Gotham Writers' Workshop?

it cant hurt but alot of it is stuff you'd have already seen in John Gardner's book

Workshops are for pseuds with too much money on their hands. You don't need one.

Forming a story of a man committing suicide. Works through an existential crisis, only to find in the end it's what he had to do to move on from this world. IDK. Not formed well yet.

>if I tell someone else my ideas they will steal it!
