Daily bookshelves thread

that shelf full of shitty paperbacks looks like you pulled them out of a dumpster

Reminds me of mine a little bit in taste and presentation. Not a whole lot, but enough.

Books on the left are ones I own that I've read to completion.

...

you should be embarrassed over that self help garbage

No, he shouldn't. You should be embarrassed to express such a broad and generally (hah get it) naive opinion.

Good shelf, and I even considered being your friend, but then I saw Pynchon

kys

Not him but self help books are pretty darn embarrassing to own.

And not helpful in 98%.

>books are brand new
>"you don't even read them"
>books show wear
>"they look like you pulled them out of a dumpster"

Welcome to Veeky Forums.

>how to be a college frat bro 101

The person who feels embarrassed for another person that owns self-help books has some seriously unresolved issues.

Owning them and trying to better yourself is different then displaying them proudly on your bookshelf.

No everything about op's taste is bad, he has entry level everything and not in a good way, it's obvious he's off to a terrible start and will never get anywhere.

He can feel free to prove everyone wrong and come back in a year once he's dropped some shit off his shelf.

whats the point of a book collection when you can just get most books from a library if you feel like re reading them

LITERALLY vinyl-tier in terms of practicality and inconvenience at more expensive costs.

What books in particular are most embarrassing, user? Enlighten us thanks

or maybe hes just reading those books because they interest him, and he isn't trying to "get anywhere"

btw which shelf is yours?

Hahahaha, ok ok I'm with you there. But you did say in your original post that owning them is embarrassing and now you're saying that owning them and displaying them are different.

I'm onto you.

>death note
>frat boy

Bro you can always spot the poor person in the thread with posts like this.
Look m8 if you want to read everything on your special offer kindle good for you little man, but we, people with money CAN and WILL invest in our hobby. Go eat some ramen and read infinite jest ;)

Literacy shouldn't exist for poor people

I'm te poorest of you all!

>Bro
>litriture is muh hobby
>immah gon invest innit
>invest
>muh hobby

The fact that your literary habits have so much to deal with vanity embarasses me, user

forgot pic

;)

At least I'm not a broke like u lmao

I was going to say stop being a sad sack and take three minutes to clean up, but the trash does distract from your unbroken top to bottom shit tier books.

...

Every time.
>Those spines don't look damaged enough to have been read!!
>Did you pull that books out of a dumpster?
>Omg grrm? How dare you!
>Wow look at all those memes xD!!
>You have no personal taste

So guess what? You wanna look at my bookshelf? You want a peak tough guy? Go ahead.

based dolanfag I thought you had died

Only in taste

No, it's just I spend money on hobbies I actually get stuff out of. I just bought some more supplies for woodworking, I'm gonna make myself a bookshelf for the few books I do have.

>tfw Slavic Ruski that will have a superior literature experience than prepfags because I can read the greats in their native language

Stay mad talentless amerifat.

what the fuck is this stupidity

I was thinking the same thing, wtf

...

Unless Latin and Ancient Greek are the native languages of your siberian shithole, you're not "reading the greats in their native language"

if i went into someones house and they had this disgrace on their wall i would turn 360 degrees and walk away

>Ruski

Learning latin though, it's tough but still fun. my sister is teaching me.

stay mad amerifat.

...

kek clearly neither of you have applied what little Latin you know to reading anything ever written in it, or else you'd have learned from the ancients how embarrassing it is to be instructed by a woman.

how embarrassing it is to be instructed by a woman.
u can just tell people have a subscription to blacked.com judging by how sexually repressed their ideas about women are kekity kek

>people who hate women will enjoy watching them being degraded by niggers

Not seeing the surprise here

>hobbies I actually get stuff out of

Do you not get anything out of reading?

>I just bought some more supplies for woodworking, I'm gonna make myself a bookshelf for the few books I do have.

Oh wow, you're going to make a whole bookshelf. When will you be starting your ministry, J-man?

>tfw Slavic Ruski that will have a superior literature experience than prepfags because I can read the greats in their native language

kek, sure thing, bud.

it's weird to think you might be serious

Good selection. Did you enjoyed Borges?

They only thing they could add is making the girls cry

>Do you not get anything out of reading?
Yes, but it doesn't require money. It's an anti-hobby when it comes to spending money on.

she skipped three grades with a 4.0 GPA and is currently applying to some good schools. she is pretty smart and is a good tutor as any. you guys are projecting and seem pretty mad

>Oh wow, you're going to make a whole bookshelf. When will you be starting your ministry, J-man?

this isnt the only project ive done obviously. just the one im working on. i just finished a cool little wooden bear before it, the one from the old soviet cartoons. very proud of it senpai. looks cool
>amerifats are THIS mad they have to read shitty subpar translations and have to compensate for lack of talent and ambition by spending money on mere consumption of things

keep buying books to make you feel like your consumerist collection is an """""""""""""""Accomplishment"""""""""""""""""" KEK

>trying to defend your mongoloid girlfriend and your own plebiness by bragging about carpentry and using that to segue into criticizing the English language

I can't tell if you're being serious anymore

Post more faggot

KEK you got me but where is the criticism of english ?

> shitty subpar translations

Maybe that was just a comment on money not guaranteeing the ability to be judicious in picking translations

oh sorry I didn't mean your post I meant the original, the one you were quoting.

English is not inherently flawed it's just the translations of anything are always inferior to the original.

But actually now that you bring it up, Russian is the superior language when it comes to literature in general.

oh yeah? Well I would turn 720 degrees and run full speed away!

Impoverished pleb coming through.

...

...

...

Jesus Christ you Russians embarass me. Your country's literature was only relevant for two centuries. Russia was a shithole before they became Francophiles so you should be embarassed that you speak Russian and not French.

judge me

christfag/10

HUH?!

>The Red Book
How much did that cost you?

>atlas shrugged

the only book i have ever gotten rid of immediately after reading. i know for a fact i never want to read that literary abortion again.

whats the meaning of this post
why would you post this
you're not me stop

Nigga that's not a shelf

>ayn rand
>7 habits
is this a meme? is it ironic?

EL MARCIANO

1/3

2/3 (that is a shitty edition of leaves of grass by the way for anyone thinking about it)

Nice brothers K

How is Literature and Revolution? Did you know Mark Kermode is Frank Kermode's father?

nice, really like it user

Literature and Revolution has some interesting things to say about the role of art in a Socialist society, but i struggled with it more than i expected to because it entirely bases itself around exploration of contemporary Russian poets. The edition there (Haymarket) has some samples of the work of each poet discussed, which is very helpful.
Also, Trotsky uses a register that caters to readers who are familiar with the early stages of the Russian revolution in depth, so you might find it tricky if you havent studied it. Still, he has some pretty fascinating ideas so i'd definitely recommend it.

Do you mean Frank Kermode is Mark Kermode's father? I'd wondered if that was the case for a while, surprised there isn't a mention of it on either of their Wiki pages.

Dorothy Parker!

Nice collection and nice presentation

Yeah my coursework at one point included the Great Gatsby (surprise surprise) as one of the texts, and i was struggling to get to grips with Daisy Buchanan as both a character and a symbol of femininity in the lost generation. Dorothy Parker really helped me figure it out (as well as being pretty hilarious and well worth a read regardless).

>el marciano
ay lamaoooo

Anyway, Please burn that shelf. Its pitiful

>lamp on top of hifi equipment vents
>books by the side

dude this is a fire hazard

That much hi-fi and no record player what are you doing user

very nicely organised pencils
it would be even better if you put them all facing one way i.e. point up or eraser up

>kjell askildsen
>krapps last tape
>edward albee

are you me? that's a very specific taste in literature you have.

It was a gift but I'm pretty sure it was like 30 bucks

I liked Borges a lot, specialy his "fictions" (I don't know the title in english I supose is that one) colection.

yeah, el marciano!

I'm not him lol

>hi-fi

Man I found that in a dumpster, and it sounds better than my laptop's shitty speakers. The speakers on the bottom aren't connected. They're just being used as stands. The Minimus 7's on top sound pretty good though.

Also I don't think it's a fire hazard. The books on the side are cool to the touch and the vents aren't really covered.

obligatory

BUT ON THE ROAD IS NOT LIT CONAN UHHHHHHHH

Really nice collection

My bookshelf is 95% spanish too

What translation is the Brothers Karamazov?

David Magarshack, published by the Folio Society

If you like HST, check out Hell's Angels.

I want a bookshelf not because I plan on reading books twice, but because it fulfills something inside of me, like when I buy a book series, it feels cool to add another book that looks similar to the last one..just doesn't feel the same with ebooks. What is wrong with me and how can I fix this?

I'm gonna build a bookshelf.

Is there anything special I should consider when building it?

Ignat Avsey

so you would turn a full rotation and walk away into the wall? I think you got it wrong desu

Nice fapkins you got there.

a haiku:
