The likelihood of anyone ever getting in front of a camera in the 30's was slim and certainly influenced by privilege and beauty, as it was defined at the time. you simply have encountered a novel that is quite difficult. You either take your time and slowly chew on it while breaking down or go pick out an easier book.

Less frenetic, more conventionally structured. Unlike Hunger and much of Hamsuns other work, it does not center as much around rootlessness, but goes in the opposite direction. It is widely considered his greatest work, and was also cited as one of the main reasons he got the Nobel prize.

It's Hamsuns REEEEEE towards modernity, industrialization and urbanization, and a celebration of self-reliance, atavism and nature itself. In this respect, it's sort of superficially similar to Walden, just very, very much better IMO.
