So this is just a shitty 1984 right?

So this is just a shitty 1984 right?

Sorry, haven't read it, but what an atrocious cover.

It's much better, tbqh

nah

I'm a grill. I prefer We by the Pole Jew.

This is just a shitty bait thread right?

The only similarity between those books is that they're set in dystopian futures and get prescribed on the same high school syllabi

The opposite is true.

1984 > BNW
I couldn't read all of it, it's shite.

In elementary particles bnw gets mentioned all the time

It could be! But then...

dread

Brave New World have a more accurate vision of our nowadays society, 1984 is more like 1944.

I plan to get this, sounds great form what I have heard.

Have you seen North Korea I bet they would feel 1984 is pretty accurate fro them.

Actually they explore two different approaches on a future dystopian society. Can't comment on the style because I only read BNW like 15 years ago

Hmm yeah. Run into some complications here. Probably just scratch that.

ehh

It is a knock off Plato's Republic which was in turn a knock off of Sparta.

I think I know what you're talking about. Something along the lines of how 1984 is about the hell of unlimited surveillance, and BNW being the hell of unlimited luxury.

This image is retarded. The proles in 1984 were controlled by pleasure. The party created porn and the lottery to distract them.

yes, but they used the image for the inner and outer party to show the proles were dumb (which they were). So that the inner and outer party would not want to join them.

Get what, San Pedro? Lelz

We're talking about countries that matter.

No, George Orwell opposed all forms of authoritarian government.....

Interesting but not as good as 1984.

I fucking hate this picture and how he used all imaginary imagery for Orwell and realish scenes of American life for Huxley to imply that Huxley got it "right."
Like have you even fucking heard of the USSR it existed for half a century. Or North Korea or Iran or China. Orwell was right to you knob you're just lucky enough to live in a society closer to Huxley's predictions.

OH
MY
GOD

Brave New World is actually a utopia and you have to use concepts about quality of experience to say it's not. I mean, they have tons of great sex and do drugs so in terms of avg. dopamine concentration they're ideal as a society.

On the other hand 1984 is a quite obviously bad, control from above sort of system. Which I don't think is very realistic. So I'd say they're opposites.

So, Huxley got it righter

>have you even fucking heard of the USSR it existed for half a century

yeah but u never lived there, whos to say the party's not so bad after you sucked a few seniors' dicks to prove you had initiative?

1984 is a shit novel taught in highschools so students can feel good about easily grasping the subtext. the prose is terrible, the content is terrible, and if we judge it on it's legacy, that is also terrible.

1984 was terrible though...

>utopia
for the top 1/9, yes
fuck being born epsilon

>North Korea I bet they would feel 1984 is pretty accurate fro them
>them

I said "our" society, the Western World.

Huxley's world isn't that bad desu.

It's inauthentic and a prime example of why industrial capitalism is bad

fuck off I just finished reading it and I am very sad

As inferior class you were literally dumbed down (into the brain) to not revolt agaist the system. You had your job, your drugs, and all the sex and hobbies you could do in your free time.
The only ones who could go against the system were the A+ (or A, the super smart ones anyway), and for them there was an utopia inside the utopia where have fun all day long.

>Tfw we had to read it allowed in class
>Tfw it's your turn to read the pedo erotic games part

Both books have their own merrit. Just imagine control via russian flavored ommunism and control via American flavor excess. Both stories make the reader sad when compared to modern realities.

Who here has actually read both?

Those who didn't don't belong here.

I read Brave New World a couple months ago and I don't remember the main character's name.

these two books shouldn't be compared
american high school tier shit
BNW is also far superior

Who is Brave new world's main character?

They are better to be compared as two archetypes of 20th century dystopia vision. They're books, senpai, not show dogs

I rather enjoyed Brave New World.

I read both in high school, therefore they both must be american high school tier shit.

Obviously We is superior to either of them.

I mean that the comparison is something you might get out of american high school, because that is the kind of hackery they go for
orwell based his book on We (read: plagiarized) and huxley claimed he hadn't read it or wasn't inspired by it, so they're really quite different
orwell thought he was lying
orwell is so fucking shit

nice cover

john?

I preferred it to 1984 tbqh

Correct.

>implying the ends is not the best part.

Plato's republic was superior because in it even the philosopher kings were made to believe a lie.
