i always peek at the last page when i start a book

i don't read

what's a book

I always tell myself that it's just to check and see how many pages are in the book, but I almost always read the last sentence "on accident."

I tell people I don't read in the hope that they don't become better readers than me.

I don't care about plotting so much.

I added each of the plays of Sophocles separately on Goodreads in order to boost up my read books number, although they're about 30 pages each and I read them all in one big collection. I don't even have any Goodreads friends (or otherwise).

If a story starts with hyper-masculine displays I know it intends to contrast that with feminism shit and must be dropped.

Pro tip: don't

same for me with aeschylus, and gonna do it with sophocles soon. Gotta reach that reading challenge goal since the bible and infinite jest slowed me down

There should be a page goal instead.

Also, why not allow the individual books of the Bible too? They are called books, amirite?

People think I know a lot of quotes from a lot of books off by heart, but actually it's almost always just Faust.

This

I don't read authors, I read ABOUT authors. Then I shitpost about it online/pretend I know shit in front of people by spouting details about their life I learned from their respective Wikipedia summaries. Or I just watched the movie.

I want to brag constantly on this board about certain things but I can't because I will be recognized instantly

Have you stopped abusing parentheses yet?

No, it's still one of my many autistic problems

I don't love her anymore.
This hurts me. I don't know if it's because I doubt she cares. I don't know if it's because it felt so meaningful. Now I'm just as I used to be.

I respect pornographers and commission based porn artists for having less bullshit on their chest than Tor writers.

>it's a dictionary

I can only read in one language.

i'm thomas pynchon

My to-read shelf of books I own is longer than my have-read shelf. A lot of them were bought on impulse and I doubt I'll ever read all of them.

i can't stand most theory/theoretical work

i read for plot, it takes me 3 times to start getting into the thematics

I like postmodernism

I'm curious to know what you are talking about or what you're smoking, possibly. Please explain.

kys then

gross

I always read the last sentence of a book first for some reason. I've done that ever since I was a kid for some reason

How about you ig'net fuckers read for the sake of, I don't know, content rather than for jerking off your pathetic egos on a website.

That actually makes sense.

It's so easy right? It shows these people might be pretending too, have you thought about that?

I do this too, but I do it deliberately.

I have never read any philosophy. Not going to start either. Fiction & non-fiction or bust.

But philosophy is usually non-fiction? And what about books like L'Etranger? That's philosophy and fiction.

>"mascul-ine"
>contrasts with "femin-ism"

You are a simpleton, lad.

You'll easily get the want to read, when you'll realize that reading directly the material allows you to spout even more precise and relatively unknown info, thus raising your pseud potential.

Sure. But I won't start reading Sartre to get deeper into the nuances of existentialism or whatever else.

Rather a simpleton than a stunted mind for reading Nietzsche and all of a sudden becoming an asshole like most philo peeps I know.

Yeah I'm closing in on it but still reading feels like it takes so much time away from shitposting on Veeky Forums
And you have to leave the house to acquire books and I prefer not to do that

I've pirated ebooks so I can keep a DRM free copy of a DRM loaded book for myself.

I wish DRM loaded books work like clothing security tags. That way I can keep a copy for myself and use only a second program to decrypt the back-up copy.

I know how content licenses work for many companies. But there's something appealing to about reading an ebook on a device not designed for it.

I tried to read a wuxia novel on my cellphone and the text was so small I couldn't zoom in and read it at all.

>you have to leave the house to acquire books
Amazon, family.

have to go out to the store to collect packages from amazon (apartment-living)
no family

There's the ebooks on gutenberg, too.
On the long term, an e-reader is quite a good investment

Oh I didn't call you a simpleton for that, if I were addressing that I would merely call you a fucking moron, which you show you are, and in two tidy posts.
I called you a simpleton for saying fiction and non fiction or bust. And while I'm sure that made sense to you, everyone else is smirking.

but if I'm going through the effort of actually reading books i sure damn want a physical copy so it can stand on my book shelf and show my visitors how well-read i am and how patrician my taste is

>actually thinks he needs to read the books before displaying them on his shelf
jokes on you

A lo of people do this. My mum once did it with a detective novel and found out the murderer.

>have you thought about that?
Not who you asked, but yes.

Kek

Are you non religious reading the bible I was thinking about it as an atheist. Did you read a king James?

This.

I prefer prose over story.

I begin to pontificate on and act like I intimately know writers, especially poets, after having read only a small fraction of their work. I am willing to have a long discourse on Yeats even though I have read perhaps 50 pages of his work. Keats is, of course, one of the greats, having read only maybe 20 pages from him. I can even praise Marlowe; I have only seen brief quotations from him.

I didn't give a damn about books until I read Harry Potter for the first time. (2 years ago)

I think i might be black

Not by your own volition you don't. You only hold this position now because it's a fashionable one

i tend to judge books that i'm on the fence about reading by reading the final sentence of it.

you filthy final-sentencers

i bet when you watch porn you skip straight to the cumshot

>jerking off your pathetic egos on a website
>posts on Veeky Forums

And what are you doing here, not reading, boyo?

i have two eyes idiot

You sound like just the kind of guy he doesn't want to be.

>he said fiction and non-fiction as if that didn't already include philosophy, he's such a simpleton he doesn't even know why he's a simpleton, o I am smirking, everybody is smirking with me, right, lads? Lads?...

wow I have self control in areas where other people don't
All I do is check how many pages and thats it

Are you a chameleon, lizard-brain?

I have this problem too
Have yet to read Don Quixote in spanish, not that I ever read it in english

>Nietzsche and all of a sudden becoming an asshole like most philo peeps I know.
kek, tell them their acts of charity are not so great as deserve a beating of the witnesses. Nietzsche's fun to read, like the good bits of the Bible; you could probably read Also Sprach Zarathustra as fiction or a prose poem and get more out of it than most

This is a given, you are on /iit/ afterall

Good for you

Cool, an author! I've never read your stuff, but it's meme'd here all the time. If I'm reading Moby Dick and loving it, what should I read next?

Infinite Jest.

Yeah there'd be virtually no discussion if people didn't do this.

Your a failure son

sometimes i read books just to say ive read them; not even interested in them.

I was like that before coming here

I force myself to read high brow crap I don't like or want to read then treat myself for doing it by binge reading Goosebumps books.
