Hey guys. I'm going to Purdue University next year.
I've heard that Purdue is as good as MIT from someone. Is it good to go?

According to that insecure nuke eng that used to shitpost here, it's the best engineering university in the world. He might be biased, however, and I don't have the will to independently verify his claims.

good for faking bubble fusion
way to go

Purdue is pretty strong at stem subjects, so you can expect a similar experience compared to others strong stem schools. Wouldn't say it's on par with MIT, but with schools like penn state, duke CMU, Vanderbilt.

I'm studying Computer Science and Cryptography.
No relations between stem and CS i think.

purdue definitely isn't as good as MIT for CS
MIT is arguably the very best for CS, while purdue seems to be 51~100 according to rankings

that said, for undergrad the "prestige" of your department and your professors doesn't matter much as long as you're in the ballpark

51~100 is nothing to scoff at. just work hard, get yourself known and do good shit. you can make it literally anywhere if you're good.

nice speech. *claps*

enjoy your crippling student loan debt

Ha-ha! My ex university pays the bill for me.

>Purdue University
Literally who?

Top 20 engineering school. Pretty good but not elite like mit.

>mit is elite
Holy fucking shit, stop this meme right now, you don't know how they are ranking universities, dumbass.

Take a fucking look at the students in this AI class on MIT:
youtube.com/watch?v=TjZBTDzGeGg

Dude, concetration camps got same labels as you enter...
And you got there because you want more money...

>AI class

Yes, yes, we know. CS majors are retarded wherever you go.

>according to rankings
Discard comment into the trash. .

Why do they all look like animuu-loving trap-fapping weaboos?

That's usually who get accepted into MIT. They're not like hollywood types who like normal. These kids are the the type of kids who stay in their room playing vidya, studying, and watching anime.

Right, but I'm not sure you'll find these people outside of CS, or at least in lower quantities. Why do they all congregate in CS?

Its not just CS. This is all of STEM. Physics tend to be a little normie because women do major more in math or physics. But they congregate there because they want to create video games or become le hackerman. Real CS work is done in the physics and math world. You need high math training to do the hard CS stuff.

Lots of fuckng bullshit in this thread. The only people qualified to say anything are those who went to Purdue and MIT and how many people on this board do you think went to purdue let alone mit let alone purdue AND mit

>MIT students look like nerds
You don't say.

undergrad content doesnt matter almost wherever you go since you can always study from online resources, and any top 200, thats right 200, probably has similar content stem undergrad program UNLESS they are a poor school and their labs suffer as a result. thus the controlling factor of undergrad selection is prestige

graduate school is where the rankings actually become accurate

> Real CS work is done in the physics and math world.

is like saying the sky is blue. computer science theory is part of applied math departments and computer engineering is engineering

>Physics tend to be a little normie
Physics students were the worst of the worst when I was in school. There were some incredibly normal guys in CS, who basically all just wanted to go to Wall Street, and some grade A losers, but not much in the middle. Aside from a couple legitimate spergs, I found the math students tended to mostly be regular people who liked math.

I dunno but according to my old college landlord, it's where his kids went and it's definitely better than the school I was at.

>graduate school is where the rankings actually become accurate
This is what Veeky Forums believes. It still doesn't matter. Most schools don't have access to the lab equipment needed to do experiments on big ideas. You have to write a proposal and hope it get accepted to use the equipment for a period of time. STEM grad school is about finding grants and where to use those grants in outside labs. School like MIT have advanced labs but that's just MIT. Top public schools don't have the labs like MIT or Caltech has in their campus. Even then they still need to go outside of their school to do more research in national labs or those government run labs in other countries.

>says graduate school rank doesnt matter
>gives several reasons why they matter

Obviously rank includes breadth of facilities, quality of faculty, and prestige used to get grants.

I guess it depends on what school you're attending. The school I attended had normies in their physics and math program. Plus a lot of women, relative to the male population in the program. Math students are normies because most will become teachers. Plus you meet the occasional hot chick majoring in math. 9/10 times she's dating someone outside of STEM.

>9/10 times she's dating someone outside of STEM.
Is there something wrong with this? I dated a ballerina all through college, and it was nice spending time with people who do completely different things than me.

ranking don't measure education or their quality. Just what sport team they have, amount of research papers they shit out each year and how much money is in their endowment fund. This is why ranks is shit. No one takes it seriously. The school don't make scientists great, only yourself will get you to that point. The faculty helps but that's increasing becoming irrelevant as well. You'll meet good professors in every school.

Nothing wrong. Just Veeky Forums believes women in STEM date STEM men.
Inb4 the REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE reply.

So much of this you have shit out is hilariously biased.
First of all no legitimate ranking system concerns itself with the sports teams. Last time I checked MIT wasnt doing so well in Division 3 and does Caltech even have sports teams?
The amount of endowment and research papers are directly correlated with the quality of the facility and the quality of the faculty. But you would question all of these obvious facts and say that they are not related whatsoever, and that no matter what school someone goes to it will be the same. This is true delusion, and even I go to community college and can recognize it.

>m-muh podunk u is just as good as caltech amirite guys?!?!

I'm in my soph year at Purdue now.
Studying actuarial math with second degree in applied statistics.
It's not a bad school but definitely not super prestigious.
Lots of people will shove the "Purdue was offered to be an Ivy League and they declined" meme down your throat but don't make much of it.

If they have to compare it to MIT to make you feel better about it, that just tells you its shit. Nobody asks if X good school is just as good as Y good school because it can stand alone on its own two feet.

And Purdue is shit honestly, since they don't bother selecting their students. Basically anybody and their dog can get in the program, engineering or otherwise - and don't get started on the whole weedout bullshit, because even after the most braindead segment of the population that can't get pass Calc I gets removed from the pool (their idea of "weedout" lmao), you're still left with a ton of tards.

Basically if anyone tells you "X school is good" then that school probably blows. Nobody would bother saying that the sky is blue, but it takes mental gymnastics to label a man as a bigender nonbinary whateverthefuck

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GIRLS ARE ICKY
