I'm a second year ECE student, trying to get in on some undergraduate research for the first time this fall semester so maybe I can get into MIT for grad school. But who am I kidding - I'm a white male, so I probably have no chance

I'm majoring in Mathematics. Starting my program next week. I'm going to attend SFSU for my B.A. then Rutgers University for my Ph.D It'll probably be in Algebraic Geometry.

Half of those are East Asiain names. I can promise affirmative action is not what got those people anywhere near a math department. Many are Eastern European -- again, not affirmative action.
The important thing is that you have something to say in the essay. This is accomplished by talking about your subject with professors throughout undergrad, studying outside and beyond the scope of classes, picking up research experience, etc. Don't worry about it so much at this point.
I applied to MIT undergrad and had an interview with an MIT alumni.
Dude was white as fuck, but had a spanish sounding name. During the interview I told him about all the AP classes I was taking. The Physics, the Chemistry, Biology, Calculus.
He proceeded to tell me that he never took any AP classes in high school, just an IB course. Didn't even take calculus. He even told me he suspects he got accepted to MIT because he marked on his application that he is half-hispanic because his mom was from Colombia or something.
He then told me that at MIT in the undergraduate dorms, all the students put off their work until the day before it is due (apparently it was all due on Fridays), and they would stay up all night Thursday night and work on it together.
That took up the first 1/3 of the interview. For the next 2/3 he talked to me about Age of Empires 2 and how it is superior to all other RTS games.

I haven't posted about that but I don't know. Maybe I will go to grad school. My professors are already pressuring me telling me that they want me to do a thesis for my graduation and not the seminar. I know the moment I graduate they are going to pressure me about getting a PhD aswell,I can see it in their eyes.

Pretty much. Longest proof I've written was for euclidean geometry and was maybe half a page long. I know shit is going to get crazy later but I don't see myself ever struggling.

I am just taking Calc 2. That said, last semester in Calc 1 I would get As when most people were getting C's and I passed with a percentage of 110% because the professor gave some free points so that not too many kids would fail and for me that just meant that I was doing better than perfect in terms of score.
I am not a moron but if you are telling me this then I probably know less than you at the moment. Not that I care.

I really hope my uni adds more seats to the ochem sections. They're capped at 24 and the waitlist is capped at 24. All four sections are completely full. I'm sixth on the waitlist

Currently going into my second year toward a computer science degree.
Don't really know what I want to do with my life. I keep hearing horror stories about people working in the industry who, despite making a lot of money, are basically just code monkeys. I'm wondering if I should try to get a PhD and do some more intellectually-satisfying work. I would probably switch to a mathematics major, but I've already wasted three semesters before switching to computer science and I don't want to fuck around anymore.

I've decided against grad school but I'd choose Berkeley or Stanford over MIT in a heartbeat.

I do problems, I just don't worry about them and usually do not think about them while I am not in class.
If a set of problems is given to us to return then I just solve it right there or if I can't then I wait until tomorrow and solve it then.
